just not a 'main feature' kinda thing
like when league of gentleman made a film
sucked, studios want some big paydirt plot..
hey @popti & wax,
just had a very gentle and difficult convo with my son
he and I both miss his mum, his sister dropped him home after work,
he misses his sis too, empty-ish nest, AW gets it, many of you do.
We are lucky and happy and blessed, and thoughtful, doleful and wistful, too.
Here's the fucking balls of choir music. The peer of Shakespeare, the Earl of Oxford and any renaissance crony you wanna mention.
William Fucking Byrd.
3 and a half minutes.. it's a single..
rough translation: "I have respect for the present; the here and now. I am of my ancestors and have those-who-came-before-me to thank for this moment. I hope I shall pass peacefully when it is time.."
This is the absolute bomb to sing, fun, easy, melodic, historic, the interplay is miles ahead of his peers.
Student of Thomas Tallis. Weirdo Catholic in a puddle of protestants. y'know how every old person says 'interesting times' or 'strange times' every 2 seconds lately? fucking foxTV-deluded. 1600 common era was interesting times. Most times were interesting times.
I'll post Tallis' fantasia as treated by Vaughan Williams next week-ish.

Hello base 6 .
Not sure what you and your son had to chat about , but it sounds like you picked the right way to say , what had to be said .
I had a chat with my daughters when telling them that their mother and I were separating .
My Ex wanted to sit in on the Chat , but I said I wanted to do Man to each daughter .
Your son will have appreciated the Man to Man chat !
I have worked on trying to enjoy Solitude .
I always miss my girls and wish they would ring me more .
It doesn't bother me though .
I can always ring or text , them and let them know , I am thinking of them .
Good Stuff !
Where its the Church that needs some help ?
the church is here. it's less hyperbolic these days @PopD.
that wish for more trans-generational contact is big,
I read a thing or heard an article on RN that resonated,
where someone said a parent MUST offer, it's the job.
You get knocked back 100 times, you offer again.
If the fuckers don't take you up on it, it's on them.
AVOID!!! (when talking to loved ones)
- advice
- opinion
- popular news gossip
LISTENING =
asking three questions when someone tells you something
and retaining that information for 8 - 12 years.
But also, my style, is to listen and be benign.
So flakey daughter will still share.
Which means I have an inside into if things are disrespecful or suckey
in her forays into doing the life thing with a partner.
Glad you're here, bloke.
@JF trims the weeds, @seeds pops past.
we all lean on our pitchfork when we hear a truck,
waiting on @Opti, he went to your old hood,
to get some transportables, I got planning,
we're just waiting for him to get back.
footings are in place and everything ..
You sound Very cool base 6 , a Older Soul than I am and a much quicker learner .
You naturally show Great respect !
I have learned to Not worry about trying to change people , finally .
It has made the last 4 years a bit easier .
We are Still Learning , how cool is that !
If you organise a working B for the Church , I WILL work out a way 2 help !
edit
Ok , I am slow , I am in the church :) , I now think Here is here and not in here in Adelaide . haha hear hear .
have to learn this again,
performed it once as a young 'un
in terms of neuro-diversity, this is fun as, christopher smart,

If I am in Victoria , I am in Fitzroy on the 19th of Jan !
19 is my lucky number !
I am off 2 Pork my rice .
mentioned before, my fave 'driving for a long time in misty rain through aussie fields and forests' music is the 'Tron: Legacy' soundtrack by Daft Punk. Second would be Ross Edwards' 'Da Pacem Domine', third would be this pre-euro wwars 1910 king hit by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Tallis Fantasia is its cutesie name.
The Toronto (Toronno to locals) Symphony Orchestra is so Adelaide Symphony Orchestra feeling, legends, needing to incorporate full-time playing into their lives, also have another bit-job, and endure gigs supporting pop-rock guff that breezes through town. Total love of the doing of it.
The piece is built around a theme from a Thomas Tallis piece. William Byrd (Ave Verum posted above) was a student of Tallis in the 16thC.
It is what I love about choirs and about gamelan, watching a thing like this. Selfless, no champs, no stars, no The Voice, or saccharine André Rieu glamour. A simple arrangement of wonderful humans giving voice to instruments and composition, to give people visceral live performances of quality music and traditions. Once for the rich, now government subsidised. A ticket to the opera is less than one to the AFL. I think that is wonderful.
Fantasia is fantastic base 6 .
It is wonderful to see the Perfect Team effort .
Such individually dedicated people coming together .
When it's time 4 them to Go , they Go , always ready .
No part is too small .
the church is here. it's less hyperbolic these days @PopD.Less hyperbolic, but more Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic.
bless yer sweet phalanges..
how you travelling @wax?
few knocks in swellnetville,
adam12's laid up, all doing out best..
at least we're coming into vitamin D time,
you're descending into darkness and winter!
best wishes, mate. (cheers, PoppaD : )
the tao of pooh has been a fun worm-hole btw @seeds
I have a copy here somewhere, probably never gave it the respect it deserves,
but the vinegar tasters allegory behind it is unreal,
re confuiciousism, buddhism, and taoism..
reminds me of why I love snufkin from Tove Janson's Moomin books,
the kids and I are discussing it now, thanks mate!

unexpected day off, done the mowing, surf peps up tomorrow.. this thread is great, no pressure, no judgement, anything goes, as it should be.. gonna have a Taizé ramble, had a tune, Bénissez le Seigneur, running through my head while mowing..
I know a lot of us don't hold with religion, and the idea of 'the church' even less, but I do rate where it gives comfort to people in need. Though I personally think it is bandaid comfort, and can become a drug, where people don't let go..
Seeing my working-class, broken, Nanna, after a life of incredible hardship, as a Christian, saying to my mum (I was nearby, 10 yrs old). "I think God's forgotten about me, love".. and the tears in my mothers eyes, having witnessed her parents battle and battle and battle and faaarking battle through life, 'faith' being the only thing left for Nanna by the end.. my mum watching her realise it is nought but hollow succour.. heartbreaking..
I certainly rated some time I spent at Taizé, outside Lyon, in terms of what it offers confused Christians, who want to remove themselves from a Church, but keep some semblance of a familiar faith in whatever form that it gives them transitional comfort.
https://www.taize.fr/en_rubrique9.html
It was about 2000, I met founder Brother Roger (who was killed in 2005). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brother_Roger
Just big dorms and gatherings and peacefulness, Taizé. The only rules: eat what you are given (donated food, so lunch might be an apple, a yogurt, a muesli bar and some soup in a styrofoam cup); no grog or drugs; and you must come to the midday and evening communal worship sessions. And you just paid what you could, depending on your job.. reckon it was about $10 a night for me to stay there.
I was worried about the worship bit.. but it turned out to be rather cool:
huge tented area with a slight slope, no altar or communal table at the front, just candles in abstract wall niches. 'The Brothers', of many denominations, knelt in rows down the middle, the de facto nave, I guess, and just kinda prayed. And the rest of us sang Taizé chants.. repetitive loops in many different languages, just a few lines to each, you kinda got the hang of each one by the end.
The people were really normal, too.. the germans complained about the dust and the spanish, the dutch tried to explain to everyone what they should be doing, the french sat in little groups and complained about the rules, while the belgians walked into town each day to bring beer back to the dorms, (poms and aussies just watched, amused, and managed to put our foot in it often while trying to be respectful).. within this weird thing, the euro disaffected found community and the many asian visitors found a starting point to get to know some european idiosyncrasies.
Anyway, this was my fave chant.. loved its blend of lightness, reflectiveness, optimism and busy-ness. I like the form of its playful call/answer very much. And that it feels like a folky 'turnaround'. We, the people, just sang the 'answer', long-term residents sang various 'calls'..
Taize me any day B6
Jigging away to some shanties today.

Here you go optimist
Not sure my motivation...my instinctive need to stick up for the underdog...my secret desire to be one day honoured rightfully with the role of Forum moderator (expecting a call any day)...
But anyway I couldn't help but read your troubles on another thread...unfortunately I found myself siding with everyone's posts...other than your own...except for the part where you were told you can't post here!
So I put my low IQ mind to coming up with a solution that suits all...and here it is...a safe place if you like
You can post anything you like about your beliefs...and no one has to read it unless they want! Easy peasy...
maybe you could even get Jesus, fat Buddha, Mohammed, and friends to converse in adult conversation here
Solving the world problems, one at a time...call it taking a shovel as a way of moving that mountain
All the best...brother
PS...I actually was born again once, but I grew up, and grew a brain of my own...and realised it was all a load of shit!
