"AFL"

IndoDreaming. Hi pal.
‘ Houston, we don’t have a problem’. Go Pies. AW
Edit. Just done a whip around, it’s blustery and big on the swell up north, but in Bass Strait its blustery and on the pump swell wise, (from the SW) and I know a place will be going off in strait offshore winds, the locals will be laving it. If ya know what I mean.

That Thursday game in Brisbane is standing out like dogs balls.
Might wanna bring a snorkel catters!
Sounding like they might re schedule it.
Up the mighty Bombers!!!

Love talking footy but can't agree with the sentiment in this thread's opening post. The Pies are gonna fall in a mid season heap, Nick is going to get tagged all season and lose his cool, so no Charlie for him. Brisbane for my money, GWS as a solid side bet. As long as the blue baggers keep fluffing their lines all will be good in the world. As for my team, well the spoon awaits, so I will get my pleasure watching the carnage of others missing their opportunities elsewhere.
Oh yeah, can't wait for the opening games. Bring. It . On.

indo-dreaming wrote:At least the ground will be soft :D
Players always complain that ground is hard and even causes injuries.
But yeah the forecast looks crazy, unless things change dramatically it's hard to see it going ahead, not sure what they do then though?
Yes!! splashy soft!! Yeah a bit unprecedented @indo.
Great thread btw. Can't wait for the season to get underway and the best thing about this thread is it'll piss off all our NSW/QLD brothers and sisters!! hehe.
fwiw i reckon Swans will bounce back this year under Dean Cox and probably go close.
Nth Melbourne a dark horse.
Pies definitely gonna be in the mix.
Bombers will start strong but who knows after that.
And hopefully the Gold Coast can finally string a season together and get into the finals!

blackers wrote:As long as the blue baggers keep fluffing their lines all will be good in the world. . On.
This may as well be poetry as far as i'm concerned.
Dirty rotten Blues. Almost as bad as Collingwood!

Now I understand the ‘dreaming’ part of your name.
Lions back to back, let’s go.
Ashcrofts > Daicii
indo-dreaming wrote:Season starting this week so we need a thread to document Collingwood's run to its it's 17th premiership and the year Nick Daico's wins his first of four brownlow medal's.

@AW, time is short, repent your sins and that stain your uncle gave you, switch to the Cats before the season starts and live in the bright side of life!!

I actually didn't mind it for what it was, it was such a bizarre and dopey premise. For younger kids it might have been a bit edgy, a punky brewster genre show but with a naughty alien muppet that ate cats.. 'lucky' wasn't it?

GuySmiley wrote:@AW, time is short, repent your sins and that stain your uncle gave you, switch to the Cats before the season starts and live in the bright side of life!!
GuySmiley. I mate. I hope you are doing fine. I do agree with your short statement, time is short and I think it’s the most important aspect of life and living.
We ferret away all our precious time, chasing the dollar, comfortable living, we end up working enormous hours, become very tired, irritable and grumpy so as to always stay ten feet ahead of debt.
There really is something wrong with the whole premise of life and living in our society.
Time on earth for all of us is very short, must make the most of it. I’m not scared of dying at all, but I don’t really want to.
I’d like to meet you one day.
So, following the Pies is just one aspect of a life well lived.
Unfortunately I’m scarred for life. AW

Yes, nice post, Alfred. I agree with nearly all of the sentiments, apart from the Collingwood bit.....
But yes, life is too short to hold petty grudges. Go support your team.

indo-dreaming wrote:@AW
Must not be easy being a Pies fan down that way, i know we are suppose to hate Carlton and Richmond etc the most, but Geelong has been the team ive hated the most over the last 15 years, they just always seem to be competitive and same with Hawthorn, until recent years we always matched up badly against them.
IndoDreaming. Hi mate.
Wow, we’ve disagreed a lot in the past, I’m very stubborn sometimes, have learnt to butt out when it’s not my area of expertise.
But on this occasion, I’ll give you a rolled gold yes to your statement .
It is difficult being a Collingwood supporter when the entire both sides of my family herald from the Great Ocean Road towns and Geelong, everyone is Cats mad. Biggest sooks of all when they don’t win.
G-Town goes into a temporary depression when they lose.
One of my most hated sounds is the ‘Go Cats, go Cats, go Cats makes me sick.
Nobody can argue of their successes, probably the most consistent team of the last two decades, they appear as though they rarely slump and bottom out.
I reckon Collingwood will definitely play finals by year out.
How’s ya renovation coming along ? AW

Blackers. Hi mate.
How are you and your loved ones ?
You are a Bombers or Tigers man if my memory serves me well. The only way is up.
I turned 60 last week, didn’t decide this just now, but the rest of my life is going to be on the move often, work little on good earning projects then not work for months, spend most of Winter in Indo bugging Supafreak.
Life passes us by very quickly, before you know it , you’ve been nowhere and done very little with yourself, you’re a pensioner with a pension card and taking out insurance with APIA ( Australian Pensioners Insurance Association ).
Life is more than ownership and collection.
How’s your surfing and great photography coming along ?
Break the chains, see the nation and the world, you can’t stop entropy.
I’d also like to meet you one day. All the best. AW

@AW, didn’t read your post until after my 90 minute guided meditation class, tonight’s class started and ended with surrendering to the earth, powerful stuff that coincidentally reinforces your sentiments above ^^.
Mmm, you know the christians have this prayer about earthly penance, being a pies fan with a brain-box (a rare thing) well you’re straight to heaven, no purgatory for you good sir!

Go for it AW
I turned 58 last week and my 2 kids are still in Primary school!
We are similarly aged but at completely different stages of life.

BTW. They took my team away.

My self guided meditation class started with a jazz cigarette and will finish after 3 maybe 4 whiskeys.

GuySmiley. Great stuff mate, you always make me smile and laugh.
That time out machine ( your class) you’ve just stepped out of sounds relaxing and orgasmic, those two words go together, probably not , but ok with me.
Life’s looking back at you that’s for sure, I hope we’re all watching, it can pass you by, very quickly. AW

happy birthdays @AW and @mattlock!
go well young fellas, good eggs, the pair of you.

mattlock wrote:BTW. They took my team away.
Mattlock. Hi pal. Hope ya well.
I’d say pretty well, with the Devils Lettuce spooning and snuggling up close with a bit of 2backy , shroud in Ventii papers.
Liquid refreshment in the other hand, life’s temporarily good.
58 years and cruising, you’ve got it sorted, may it continue to bring pleasure.
Who is your team ? Fitzroy ? . Good stuff. AW

basesix wrote:happy birthdays @AW and @mattlock!

Basesix. Cheers pal. We will meet soon, I have no doubts. You are of a few good men. All the best . AW

Hip Hip!! Happy 60th AW. Thats epic.
I hope the Pies get up for you in their first game....and then no more for the year. hehe.
Hope you had a great bday mate.

Yeah Fitzroy AW.
My old man played reserves for them and was Fitzroy social club secretary for years.
He said he only got a game because all the good players were killed in the war. He survived it though.
He was 46 when I was born. The same age as me when I had my first. I was number seven for him.
My boy Arthur carrys his name.

Nice one Matlock. Good to see the lineage carrying on. Interestingly, the Fitzroy Lions Shop, is just up the road from us in the sunny bayside, a long way from inner north. A mate who followed them as a kid, stopped following AFL when they were transported north. Only watches local footy now. The pain is real.
Anyways, happy birthday to you and AW. And bring on the footy.

Southernraw. Hi and thanks mate.
Had three gigs in four days, exhausting, but catching up with a lot of friends.
All of my mates are still alive and nobody has a serious ailment.
Surfing is the elixir of life, sets you straight physically and mentally.
May all of us travel well. Cheers again SR. We will meet in that beautiful SW one day. AW

Mattlock. Hi fella. That’s so good, fatherhood at any stage of life is great.
Great to hear Arthur will carry the legacy through the ages. Go well brother. AW

happy birthdays @AW & @Mattlock. Yep, many stories about the 'Roys and suburban footy and how the wars interrupted things. My grandfather played a similar role at Windy Hill. Ross Oakley has much to answer for.
A bit of a rarity but John still surfing strong in his 70's ...

Reckon Albo just sold out whatever last hope of reelection chances down the drain.
Vic ALP Vote is apparently worth $9,000 & Albo just sold off 500,000 Vic AFL Votes to Murdoch.
Albo : It's a sure Bet that Vic will vote to ban AFL Sat TV..doing them a favour by selling their Votes
Coz Vic hates AFL on Saturdays...we all know they prefer VFL...
They'll queue around the block to ban Sat Footy and Vote ALP.
Vote ALP to Ban AFL on 50% of all yer Weekends forever and ever amen! Yes Please!
*tbb bets that any Election Date Albo chooses will fall on an ALP Banned AFL Day...Doh!
*Hardly think Mad Keen AFL ALP voters will punish Albo for banning Election day footy game.
Things like that won't register in AFL fans brainz...banning 50% of w/e AFL is not a big Vic election issue
No future ALP Fan of any Political persuasion can ever celebrate a mates AFL Election Round Party.
No Aged care or Clubs can gather for Sat Footy ever again...unless Albo lists it on the PBS.
Pretty sure this Ban AFL for 50% of weekends policy won't wipe out ALP in Vic for next 100 years...

Colliwobbles in March !!

GuySmiley wrote:Colliwobbles in March !!
Just got up off the floor, was drowning in a puddle sorrow.
Same old same old, again, can’t kick goals, first quarter 1 goal five behinds early on, Schultz is crap , can’t kick over a jam tin, at this level they should nail shots at goal, he did this all last year, why did we let Ginnivan go. Miserable GuySmiley. AW

Stop it @AW, music to my ears, haha

Ah the musical sounds of magpie self immolation. And as Guy noted, so early in the year. Sorry for your loss AW.

GuySmiley wrote:Stop it @AW, music to my ears, haha
I’ve just put on David Bowies classic song , Sorrow. It’s going to be a miserable evening here, just me and the dog. Hope ya well pal.. AW

All good mate … what’s that banging? It sounds like a window slamming shut, a premiership window!!

Geez gotta wonder about Daics. Cramping up badly 70 minutes into the game.
Don't worry @AW and @indo. Better to have the Colliwobbles in March, than to be March champions like the Bombers have been for the past few years.
Giants are a very good team. You'll bounce back.

Shit. That's no good about Daics!!
Giants were missing Hogan, Stringer and Tom Greene.
So i guess the Pies were lucky this time :-P

blackers wrote:Ah the musical sounds of magpie self immolation. And as Guy noted, so early in the year. Sorry for your loss AW.
Blackers. Hi mate. ‘ Self immolation’ will be a ‘Sympathy for Devil’ then tonight. As SR said, better for it to go to shit now rather than later. Hope you had a nice weekend, I was until 3.20pm. Catch ya. AW

He looked sore, didnt hear the formal diagnosis. That is a real shame if it is that, because he is great to watch, irrespective of the colour of his jumper.
Edit; AW, the season is long, and many hurdles lie ahead, along with many opportunities. Just avoid the early warbling and you can be smug in September. Enjoy it all.

Hi mate. I’ve completely forgotten. Are you a Bombers or Tigers supporter? Can’t believe I’ve forgotten, see getting old, I did see one day but can’t recall. AW

@AW , we should get on well , even though I’m originally from south oz , I have barracked for Carlton since the age of 6 . I went for Sturt in Adelaide, parents never missed a game and back then the grand final winners from each state would play each other . First time I saw Carlton run out onto Adelaide oval to play Sturt , I looked up and said that’s my team . Carltons cabinet needs restocking, it’s been a drought for decades.

Carltons cabinet needs restocking, it’s been a drought for decades. …..what, from the time John Elliott’s paper bags full of cash were banned as a means of player payments?
https://m.

A long serving member of the Punt Road faithful AW. A few few years of misery ahead for us but hope blooms eternal.

Supafreak. Hi mate.
Well, we better get on, we will be spending a lot of time together. I’m no footy head, but I do follow Collingwood as you know, but I’m not a rampant supporter that’s goes crazy if we lose.
Looking forward to it to be quite honest, I’m very chilled, haven’t got an angry bone in my body , I’m a resolutionist not an antagonist, aggression gets you nowhere and you waste a lot of energy getting angry. I talk a lot, as deduced by many on these forums, I might drive you nuts with all my interest of the biological world.
I will enjoy our travels, meeting new friends is good for the soul, can’t live your life in an entirely insular mode around the same circle of friends. Hopefully over the years we can traverse the entire surfing region that comprises Indonesia from West to East.
Time on earth is our most precious commodity, gotta use it before you eventually lose it. AW
Season starting this week so we need a thread to document Collingwood's run to its it's 17th premiership and the year Nick Daico's wins his first of four brownlow medal's.
