Interesting stuff
No, don't remember any such conversations with Snuffy involved, blow in.
Probably because they didn't happen.
Not a surprise at all, because you're infamously full of shit, as well as being a bog-standard bigot.
But hey, apparently all good on here.
"We are conflating the concept of racial discrimination with the concept of national sovereignty in this thread."
The royal we, the editorial?
I think we can all see the quality of discussion, or morseso the lack of, whenever a loudmouth bigot leads the charge and sets the markers, hey fellas?
"It's bloody painful" indeed.
Haha mate barking up the wrong tree although I do subscribe to his theory of "Show us the evidence show us the resources" My point is we as surfers you,me and everyone else I would think that as a whole there would be a bit of common sense in all of this not so by the looks.Enlighten me please where does this come from this outlook that you have your perception the angst the motivation to clog these forums with this ongoing one track mind. It's also interesting that some are in agreement with you.The surfers I know and have great respect for do not show these tendencies and your way of thinking it's quite baffling where did it go wrong.
This push by Morrison for an inquiry into the origin of the virus I think is going to become a pivotal moment in history. Damn straight he shouldn’t back down, I think you’ll find the worlds leaders will begin to have his back.
In case you missed it, Covid-19 has been fairly big news, and understanding it as best we can is a logical step to overcoming it and stopping it happening again. It’s utter madness to not have an independent inquiry, actually.
This is the moment the world stopped bending over for the CCP
Realise it's obvious to most
These places get used to see seeds of mistrust, disinformation, lies and bias
Desensitised people to racism and acts of violence...paint themselves as the victims
Count how many times you read here..."oh I get called racist"
Most of the world worst acts of violence via racism aren't actually conducted by blatant racists, just people that get manipulated by them...they often think they are doing the right thing

For the record, it’s been my pleasure to personally bring thousands of refugees into Australia. It has been my job to personally care for them. Hugging them at the end, looking into their eyes and telling them welcome to Australia is the gift I give them on arrival. They are some of the most profound moments of love that I have experienced
:)
Also, standing in the way of science causes death......
"Was in Tassie though so not as multicultural down there."
Indo was that a question or a statement. Hopefully a question. If not "tarred with the same brush" and all that!!!
Blowin a majority of the stuff you say has merit, but your continuous use of the "China Virus" makes you sound like a Fox News presenter and we know how credible those cracker heads are. Not trying to insult you - more of a suggestion to maybe call it what it is for credibilty reasons.
The Spanish Flu has been called the Spanish Flu for over a century although it originated in the US mid-west. I think it got identified in Spain.
To call it 'China virus' is plainly non-credible. It is a corona virus, where it's from has absolutely no bearing on its lethality, infectiousness or means required to treat it.
To call it 'China virus' indicates that the person using the term thinks that where it is from is more important than a medically accurate description. What this shows is an agenda, an agenda that doesn't concern control, treatment or suppression. An agenda that is concerned not for the human toll - this shows an agenda that is more concerned with finger pointing and blame-dodging.
Of course to those drinking the kool-aid, this is a conspiracy or 'propaganda' - not a medically accurate description.
Fair argument Blowin but I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume most of that footage was pre-naming convention. It was found to be a novel corona virus which originated in Wuhan, China so yes many references were originally made to it's origin much like SARS and MERS and no ill will intended.
We know why it became officially known as Covid-19. The reason though is probably more scientific than a "bizarrely applied logic". I suppose it's like the birth of your child who you initially call a "cute little fucker" who eventually becomes George.
I just think the "China" or "Chinese" virus has been used by some to further a political agenda more so than a being a racial issue which is where the credibility comes into question. Anyway horses for courses mate so please yourself. As I said not an insult more of a suggestion so carry on.
And yes that little fopar by Chris Cuomo on that YouTube clip you attached is a classic case of American partisan journalism - no surprises there.
Er, don't want to be pedantic Gary, but 'fopar' is itself a faux pas.
I can see why some people (including me once upon a time!) might be quick to accuse Blowin of racism for his anti-CCP stance, particularly because of the forceful manner in which he expresses his opinions. However, the more I read over his past posts, the more I can see his point. I don't think he has a problem with Chinese people, just Chinese people who toe the CCP line. That's not a racial bias; it's merely political. On my way to work this morning, I drove past land that had been clear-felled by a Chinese businessman. If I vehemently criticised this Chinese businessman for his actions, some might accuse me of racism, but my opposition to his actions is not racially motivated, but politically motivated, as I value the remaining tracts of forest in my community.
if it was good enough for ip obsessed vox to write the truth, it should be good enough for blowin...
although vox had to edit the truth under pressure, as did many media outlets, ....once the manipulations started....
https://www.ccn.com/politically-correct-vox-edits-china-out-of-coronavir...
you guys are being stooged, and you got the cheek to talk about 'agenda'
speaking of ip obsessed, here's the identity politics journal (the guardian) discussing a mysterious illness thats fired up thought to be connected to ....whatever you wanna call it...
kawasaki disease
no racism, no ill intent, just calling it what it is, japan isn't having a global propaganda hissy fit
https://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/apr/28/australian-doctor...
you are being manipulated, being played, don't be so bloody ignorant
It is too adam12 - sorry sir :)
I did swap my Cambridge Dictionary for the Urban Dictionary a while back!!!
having said that, writing 'china virus' all the time probably doesn't win anyone over
you sound a bit like someone calling 'racism' all the time, they might have a minor point, occasionally, but they just come across as an ideolological idiot ... and people stop listening...
but it's hard not to emphasise the 'china virus' or 'wuhan flu' point, because big powerful people are so obviously manipulating the narrative to suit an agenda
so carry on....
personally I like WHO Wu flu, tells the whole story...
sypkan was that a 125cc or a 250cc. Ignorant - hmmmm. Nah.
80cc
for the kids...
Haha.
'Blow in' and 'Over the Falls' usually go hand-in-hand in the surf.
I think the powerful point of unconscious bias is being overlooked here. Over the Falls - if you repeat your statement about the clearfelling businessman and just say it without the descriptor "chinese" in front. Why not leave it at "businessman". Why include a racial descriptor if you don't want to make a point of race. Any reference to race means you are assuming that there is a generalised link between race and the actions of that person.
Language defines reality and how we see the world.
Wonder how we would feel if someone got Covid-22 from their pet kangaroo and the "Australian Virus" wiped out millions of people and stayed in the lexicon for generations. Guarantee that trade from Australia would suffer for years through simple association.
Well said Bungan.
Agreed- good point, well said.
I will endeavor to lift my game.
Point taken Bungan33. I don't think there's unconscious bias in me; maybe it's just insensitivity or even laziness on my part. In all honesty, the only reason I, and a lot of other people in my community, refer to him as the "Chinese" businessman is for easy identification, as he is the only Chinese businessman around here. If I just referred to him as a businessman, I could be referring to any of the local businessmen. However, I do appreciate that people often unnecessarily use a racial descriptor when referring to someone and I understand how that can be perceived as racist. I guess people can sometimes be perceived as racist without them even intending to be. Are the Balinese people that refer to me as a "bule" being racist or are they just using a quick and easy racial descriptor? Such is the precarious nature of life in a world obsessed with political correctness.
"Why not leave it at "businessman".
In a bog standard context I would say your absolutely correct but in the context above it was necessary to use the adjective "Chinese" to make a point.
I just came back from lunch in my staff room. While I was eating with some colleagues, my boss walked in and asked who was eating Chinese fried rice. I asked her if it was necessary for her to ask if it was Chinese. She looked puzzled and then simply replied that it could have been Thai or Indonesian fried rice. I decided to be a facetious smart arse and admonish her by reminding her that the racial descriptor was unnecessary and that she should just refer to fried rice as fried rice. She rolled her eyes and called me a wanker!
Overthefalls
She can and will call you whatever she wants because the law says she can.
You being male cant call her anything if she says it offends her you are
sacked and very lucky you dont get some sort of violence order charge
against you. Thats the law.
JQ yes youre right it dosent say that in that way but that is definitely how it ends up.
Pretty sure the law doesn't say that Evo, perhaps you could refer to the text of the law in question? Unless, of course, you've just made that up.
The business person is Chinese though? I don't get it... What`s wrong with calling a Chinese business person a Chinese business person...Political correctness gone mad.
I had a Teams meeting on-line today with about 8 people.
Talking about expected future down-turn old mate twice referred to the Coronavirus as the 'China Virus'.
No-one batted an eye lid.
The funniest part was when our friend in Cairns working from home was heard (by everyone in the meeting) "For fuck's sake Tyson, I'm in a fucking meeting, I will get you some food soon, so please just fuck off for now" - ooops she thought the mute button was on. ( Note: Tyson is not her husband)
Geez Blowin, fan of Scomo? Wash your mouth out, that's filthy.
If you listen carefully, you can hear Poorlean sobbing into a potato cake.
Sure leaves the Chinese in a bit of a quandrary.
It only makes sense to investigate the source so it doesn't happen again. Theoretically, China would want to know because with their economy down nearly 10%, they've lost as much as anyone. Even just to assure their trading partners that it won't happen again - shore up the supply chaines, business as usual chaps.
However, saving face is paramount.
This issue will sort out people's allegiances - this article is behind a paywall but you get the gist.
"‘Twiggy’ Forrest and Co give the government a lesson in loyalty
The mining magnate — who's hooked up to China like no other business figure — is one of several powerful business people giving a concerted effort to skew debate in favour of China."

As Turnbull recognised with his laws aimed at shedding greater light on foreign influence, such attempts to wield influence have real implications for Australia’s sovereignty and national security.
Labor’s Anthony Byrne, deputy chair of the powerful parliamentary joint committee on intelligence and security, is concerned about the role of business in such efforts: “The difficulty with billionaire business people when they get up and try to advise on international relations is that they have a conflict of interest given their economic interests — one they never declare.
“And these business people are turning a blind eye to extraordinary human rights abuses. The Chinese government has imprisoned a million Muslims based on their faith alone. How can anyone overlook that, no matter how much money they make?”
After yesterday, the government has no reason to soft-pedal on business allies of Beijing any more.
And again.
"Media mogul Kerry Stokes has used the front page of The West Australian newspaper to call on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to appease China's anger at Australia's push for an international inquiry into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Stokes, who controls the paper's publisher Seven West Media, also mounted a defence of the exotic animal wet markets where the virus is believed to have broken out."
https://www.theage.com.au/national/western-australia/kerry-stokes-calls-...
Defending those wet markets after all this really is ridiculous.
Or as Cromwell said, who are we to tell them how to run their country?
Wet markets, the imprisonment of millions based on nothing more than faith - I mean, we should just shut our little pie holes quite frankly.
Blowin, the parallel might be stretched but it’s still a timely reminder of who and what really has the most influence in politics. Almost seems surreal that it happened. How’s the look on Hunt’s face?
So you are all happy to see unemployment rise in tourism, education, hospitality, mining etc etc for what? The reality is that Scotty from marketing made a little bet that he could score a few political points at home for being “tough” on China without having to face any consequences. The only likely outcome of his call for an enquiry is that it has made it less likely. Maybe China will go with business as usual but I expect that they will hit Australia at no cost to themselves by reducing students and tourists. So in a few months time when your mates in those areas are doing it tough think back to your little knees up in support of the Scotbot.
That AAP photo with Hunt in the background is a novel.
Speaking of markets of a different kind, The Big Short is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Have it cunts
