But.
By having the vaccine, you very well may find out the long term effects in ten years time, if any.
But, If you catch covid and haven't had the vaccine, there's a chance you may not be around to find out.

Sweden has been a country that has responded differently to the Covid crisis from the beginning . Have followed then closely to see how their approach works .
They never implemented the lockdowns we did . They kept their businesses and schools open ( did lockdown some special groups ) . Their death rates did go up , initially , to higher levels than other Scandinavian countries and their vaccination rates were low ( have increased now ) .
A good case study to follow to see what we can learn .
They " did it their way " ( copped a lot of abuse from the media ) and seem to have built up a herd immunity . Good on them for not listening to so called experts .

Vaccines are complicated, essentially an exercise in statistics. More complicated than most people on here or otherwise can comprehend. Has to be an overall net benefit, with many things taken into account, including economics.
I’ve had the AZ vaccine. I know the technology is well established and has very little long term effects. If I can survive the clotting syndrome (which I’ve done so far) then I’m virtually certain to be fine in the long term.

I visited Sweden 20 years ago when my girlfriend ( now wife ) was working for Volvo . Very interesting place ! They are different . Everyone is treated equally . Being flashy and showing wealth is frowned upon . Calm and considered ( think Bjorn Borg ) .
They nearly all have their homes painted in the same colours ( Red , yellow ,white and maybe blue I
think ).
Very friendly to strangers ( we were made to feel very welcome ). Love to go to their locals , drink and catch up with friends .

So your not getting vaccinated then?
There is a bit of an unknown but really you have to have some trust in the so called medical experts.
Apparently long term side effects from vaccines are very rare and side effects normally show up in the first few months, so for those of us getting the vaccine now we at least have the benefit of millions of others having had the vaccine now for 6 to 12 months (most trials started 16 months ago)
Also apparently medication that you have in one or two goes like this also have far less risk of long term side effects, compared to say medicines you take daily.
End of the day, it had to happen at the pace it did, it wouldn't be realistic to sit back and wait ten years, on the off chance there is some long term side effect while covid goes crazy.

That is excellent news Hutchty. The article says that the highest rate of protection is in those who are both vaxxed and had covid. That’s going to be just about every vaxxed human in a few years. Add that to the vast evidence that vaxxed people don’t get nearly as sick, and you have your answer as to whether to vaccinate or not

It might depend on which variant I get and which vaccine I have had . As the article states the natural immunity and the covid immunity wear off .

I was a little shocked at Alan Joyce (CEO Qantas) announcement that international travelers will be required to have a covid 19 vaccination in order to travel on Qantas flights . The government wanted to have mandatory vaccination but after the bumbling of its release ( it was painful to watch the delivery of that announcement ) they withdrew the mandatory part but it seems Qantas and other business may demand a vaccination in order to use their services. I’m not anti vaccine by any means I just don’t trust this government or a vaccine that has been rushed through. A jab followed by another jab followed by yearly jabs doesn’t sit well with me as I have never had a flu shot or the flu for more than 20 years. Plus I don’t want to give this shot to my healthy 4 year old daughter. She is up to date with all her vaccinations but this covid vaccine is new and not being around for decades like the others. Tuberculosis remains the number one as far diseases go and you don’t need proof of vaccination to travel so what is going on ?
