I like quint's posts, not that I agree with them, or even read his links (most are tl:dr) but I find it most interesting seeing how different people think, especially in this whacky internet age. But yes, that's a good question from yocal....

Where I do agree with quint, is some of these ridiculous attempts by democrats to control the narrative. Whilst this is straight out of their play book, and has been for decades, in this internet age, it is just dumb at best, as they desperately try to play catch up to a world that has left them behind. Their gross (over) reaction to trump is living proof that their echo chamber is well out of the loop to a world that has moved on.

I think it is difficult for them to regain relevance as they are guided by a dated, and somewhat stubborn, ideology of liberalism across the board. Which still has many merits in some regards, but in terms of controlling the internet, it is the exact opposite of so called 'liberalism' and associated free speech that they are pushing.

The internet is a dark and dirty place, with much to make one uncomfortable, but if the democrats really had everyones's best interests in mind - rather than a desperate power play - there is so much other internet content they would focus on, rather than banning the likes of those quite humurous black chicks diamond and silk. Dangerous? hardly. Opposable? possibly. Ban-able? FFS come on.... People like alex jones may be a little dangerous in his views, but he is so whacky most people hardly take him seriously. However banning such things just legitimises his claims, and to be frank, continues this mundane decades long over control of narrative.

I think feminists have some fair points regarding the misogyny and dangerousness of some of these internet pick up sites and the 'red pill' communities. However I believe it is naive to focus on them whilst the porn industry runs wild on some pretty bizarre tangents that actually are pretty dangerous. Especially when they're easily available to any kid with access to a smart phone, even those in a third world village, with an associated third world village education level to decipher such information.

But most democrats won't talk of such things because it goes against their (possibly dated) sexual liberation ideals that influence their ideology. And, for anyone, of any political view, to raise such concerns draws the criticism of being conservative or prudish, and, well, sadly, just not being very cool and antiquated in one's views.

To keep a free and open internet is an ideological position to be defended to the death by zealots from factions of both sides of politics. And, on the surface, it is a probably a decent position to take, because the opposite is a very slippery slope to go down, no matter which side calls the shots.

But, as a peruser of porn, and all things twisted on the internet (who isn't?), I believe if the democrats are really concerned about misogyny and the like, rather than ultimate power, these are the conversations they'd be having rather than banning any opinions they do not agree with. Because frankly, there's no justification for twelve year old boys having access to videos of a harem of beauties getting roughed up in a sexual act. Adults on the other hand....well that's up for debate....

If you want to talk about internet control and censorship, then raise shit that metters, because everything raised by democrats so far in the trump fall out can only be described as pathetic, desperate, and partisan

Policy vs Polity

When policy defeats polity, shit happens. This is the situation in which a government subverts the established patterns of governance in order to achieve particular policy outcomes which would be prevented by following existing norms. This is how a democracy degenerates into an autocracy or some other form of totalitarian rule. Examples of this are so widespread, past and present, that it is entirely reasonable to fear its occurrence in what historically appear to be robust democracies, such as the United States ...... and Australia.

In the US the Republican Party is well on its way down this path. It has allowed its duly elected President to persist in the belief that he is above justice and can avoid the consequences of his indisputable attempts to pervert the course of justice and his highly likely collusion in Russian attempts to influence the last Presidential election in his favour. For them, Trump's ability to put in place the right wing policies they desire has become more important than maintaining their system of government.

They have permitted him to stack the Supreme Court so that it is highly likely it will over turn any findings against him, while their unholy alliance with Fox News has made sure that, as long as they do Rupert's bidding in areas influencing his business, the "news" will be made up of equal quantities of lies, bullshit and conspiracy theories laced with virulent attacks on any group not conforming to white male hetero stereotypes.

It may not be too late. But it probably is. Corporate America may have already decided that to compete with authoritarian, single party China, they need to go down the same path. And here in Australia, we sleep walk along right behind our great ally.

Possibly the best summation of the current state of affairs I've read yet.

"Trump has obstructed justice right in front of our noses, and more than once, either because he doesn’t know what obstruction of justice is or because he knows and doesn’t care."

...

"No one had come along to suggest that power should be unlimited. But now someone has, and we have learned something very interesting, and alarming, about these “conservatives,” both the rank and file and holders of high office: their overwhelming commitment is not to democratic allocation of power, but to their ideological goals—the annihilation of liberalism, the restoration of a white ethno-nationalist hegemony. "

...

"It has often been written, and I’ve written it myself, that the Republicans have been weak in the face of Trumpism. But I’ve come to think that’s wrong. They’re not weak at all. Most of them are perfectly happy to have become Trump’s vassals. They were waiting for just such a man."

He doesn't deserve our attention. I wish I had the luxury of being able to ignore him. And given what I contribute to the fight against him (nothing), I probably should. But, if nothing else, he makes one re-examine one's assumptions about power, democracy, the media, human nature and so on. Oh, you think that's how the world works, do you? Well, let's throw a Trump in the mix and see what happens to your expectations.

34 people from trump's team were indicted for violating US federal laws. Prison terms of up to 7.5 years have been handed down, so far.

The report also found that Russia interfered in the 2016 election in an attempt to sway the election,.
It found that Russians bought US$100,000 Facebook ads and bombarded Twitter accounts that boosted Trump and disparaged the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.
The report also found that Russia engaged in cyber espionage, stealing emails and disseminating them to embarrass Democrats.

The rest of the stuff you mentioned is irrelevant . What the Russian government gets up to has nothing to with Trump. How is it his fault if they buy Facebook advertising ? Mueller found Russia interfered in US election violating US 'Criminal Law'.(wiki)

"Special Council Robert Mueller found significant evidence that 'Mr Trump' may have obstructed justice, but he 'declined to charge 'President Trump' based on his view of how the law should work."(Time)

Read between the lines...
'Mr Trump' is guilty as charged.
Constitutional limitations prevent prosecutions sticking to 'President Trump'.
If Trump was 'innocent of charges' the Report would have cleared any wrongdoing.

Mueller's probing report does the opposite! It lays the foundation for later charges...
It even examples any number of President Trump's 'obstructions of Justice'...
Limitations upon US prosecutors ruled out Trump charges...hardly lack of evidence.
A sitting President cannot be indicted but can still face same charges after office.

Sitting President has universal right to clear name of accusations of wrongdoing.
In other words any speedy Presidential trial 'must' clear Trump under US law.
Therefore any Presidential investigator walks a tightrope above the Prison Yard.

1000 trials can never find a 'sitting' President guilty.(Truth don't sell newspapers!)

Meanwhile, what do US Presidents do when the shit is about to hit the fan? Yep, start a war!

WASHINGTON — At a meeting of President Trump’s top national security aides last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said.

This proved to be a very silly thread.

Trump is gone now, no new wars were started. He even tried to draw down troops but was thwarted by disobedience in the state dept.

New administration, the swamp is back in charge and the risk of war is closer now as tensions ratchet. Taiwan and SC sea are obvious flash points. Iran is closer to going nuclear now. Russian troops are building up on Ukraine border:

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/nato-and-ukraine-discuss-russian-militar...

I've read worse including ultimatums to get NATO ships out of Black sea and moving of fleets, ambassadors being dismissed, but can't confirm anything beyond the link.

Seems to be a yearly thing! 2022 now and Russian troops up on the Ukranian border:

https://southfront.org/military-situation-in-eastern-ukraine-on-january-...

a caution, Southfront is... rather... pro Russian. In fact it's more pro Russian than watching the cyka blyat video repeatedly. But views from all sides.

I've left the news alone since Trump, and yeah, we're seeing conflict and chaos, eg Afghanistan withdrawal. So yes, Trump is not causing this year's conflict flaring up either. We need a diversion... how about some Winter Olympics!

Gotta agree with indo...This thread title didn't age too well.

Also applaud Indo's gutsy call...not easy to call out the obvious! Huh!
Why! Coz tbb was equally gonna call it out, but felt less so inclined!
Well it's kinda weird...don't wanna be seen defending Trump's Virtue...that's sick!
What fucking honour would Trump have in his bones...dunno!
tbb only knows this is not right and Indo is...Huh! C'mon tbb...yer havin a laugh! Nope!

tbb has a jumbo file on this & will just tear off the strip with Presidents starting Wars.
Only to share why the title may need a do over...nuthin suss...this is a straight Wiki mixed Rip.
The crew might appreciate the context of documented rising to recent peak US War period.

So...these WAR stats are very real and can be easily checked...from 1970 they begin.
Sure it takes up some time but the rewards can be seen instantly to verify this and any Pre War.
tbb is proud to share his hard work & crew will see why!
Joined 2 Column stats + Divide into each term as ya would if a new Prez starts a new campaign...Ok!
So they read as a uniform badge of honour for each Team USA Commander in Chief.
Nope! tbb can't link it as it's exclusive to swellnet crew here & now! Ok!
Sure! Shoot tbb for not including the Collateral Damage...can if ya like! But that's not in question!
Just gonna share the original pure intent as it works well enough to characterize Presidential traits.
Reason for chart is a foundation timeline to build upon & tbb does that...(see below!) Mix'n'match!

De Prez New > Existing Wars
Nixon.........0.........4
Ford ...........1.........5
Carter.........0.........1
Reagan......2.........3
Reagan......1.........2
Bush Snr...5.........5
Clinton.......1.........4
Clinton.......1.........3
Bush Jnr....5.........7
Bush Jnr....3.........9 (NASA Shuttle / Space era ends > Shifts to Defence Era)
Obama.......7......13 (Reads Obama needs to Equally pull Defence backers!)
Obama.......9......19 (Peak US War period > Reads Dems Top out as equal Defense backers)
Trump.........0......18 (Prez re-stamps existing 10yr WoT contracts...GOP bread'n'butter! All equal!)
Biden..........2......14 (Prez re-stamps Obama's record 10 yr Israel contracts) Re seeds a later spend!

What we all clearly saw in Trump Era was re stamping of Bush's WOMD 10 year Contracts.
Ya see...each Ten year contract can be re-signed by Commander in Chief without goin' to the House!

Yes! True that there was an uptick in Bush Contracted War Zones to please his GOP makers!
We also saw Last minute Mid East War Dimplomacy & record sales of Jet Fighters / Mass Arms deals.
This was mostly done in caretaker mode to fuck over Biden with a Mass Defence Bill Headache!
As for New Wars...Nope! Trump Policy openly wants to end Biden's NATO / Israel Mass Killings.

tbb recommends to view World Policeman Ballpark stats as a whole...
eg: Terror Incidents / Assassinations / National Riots / Race vs Religion vs Party / School Shootings
Can include record Immigration (vs) Lowest Birthrate etc ...All play off one another...

But if these Wars win Badges then Trump ain't got one...not in the Club & that least bothers him.

But tbb was only referring to title anomaly that Indo rightly pointed to...
Mostly coz tbb & others in the crew may perceive Trump involved in many conflicts.
But can attest...Wiki & tbb's research don't recall Trump starting a war...not in the strict sense!
Not saying he didn't...just that whatever conflict it was...it's not recorded as a new war!
Happy to share and clear that up...
Trump is many things but least likely labelled a War Monger...or a higher risk to start a war!
Stats clearly show Trump being least likely of all Presidents to start a War.

All saw US congress today...them be fighting words to war mongers!
All see how everyone of them cheer on that Monster's war
Not Trump...sure! tbb agrees it's out of character...but it is what it is! All say Aye!
In fact tbb jokes that Bibi will Whip Trump into line...but Trump wants that War to end!
Longer he takes that high ground above Kamala...better chance of being Prez!
Possibly his only redeeming feature ...being the Prez voted least likely to start a war! A good thing!
