A perfect mix for me would be between Singapore and Japan, totally forget vaccine mandates it's not based on science as we know vaccination in this case doesn't prevent transmission and it's just divisive demonising people for their choose.

But on the flip side if you choose to not be vaccinated your chances of being hospitalised is far greater, so I also like the Singapore model of unvaccinated who need hos[ital care for Covid, paying at least for 18+ (even if there was a cap on the cost)

Let people decide and take the medical and financial risk, if you can't pay then there should be an option to work it off.

Which comes back to my idea of sorting plants where people sort rubbish to reduce landfill and increase recycling to actually make it a viable thing.

I have been on the fence to a degree, I believe Covid is a real thing , may get better or may get worse , time will tell. I had a very good friend (not a cousin or my sister friend or the like and actual real person) pass away this year while waiting for a heart bypass, old guy but he wanted to be alive still , he couldnt wait any longer and is now dead.
The WA health system is already under too much pressure without covid here , ambulance ramping, hours in triage waiting to see a doc,no beds etc etc, once we open (and looking at the rest of the world / Aus at the moment) Id say the hospital system will be fucked and important beds and services will be even less available than they have been and elective surgery will be cancelled .
Its easy to say "I am healthy and wont be in hospital with covid" but others not so lucky will get sick with it (vaxxed and un vaxxed) and taking up beds that my mate could have used and your grans hip op or mates knee op will need too.

@mikehunt , is there anyword on makeshift hospitals being set up when WA does open ? They had them in major cities around the world when covid first hit , dismantled them pretty quick though . Or is it also a case of nobody to staff them ?

On local news today that WA regional hospitals are crying out they are not ready, understaffed and under resourced ( not to mention very isolated) , the only regional hospital with ventilators is Bunbury, so Perth and Bunbury are the only places covid patients can be treated at the moment.

I guess they've only had 2 years to prepare...

As I’ve said over and over, the statistics speak for themselves. In NSW the average age of death is 83 and we have averaged less than a single old person death every day for two years. Most deaths have occurred in aged care and almost every death has occurred in the extremely unhealthy. There is literally fuck all for everyday healthy people to be concerned about.

Tens of thousands of Australians have died from preventable causes such as diabetes and heart disease whilst hundreds of people have died WITH covid.

Have we altered our society in any way, shape or form in order to mitigate the main causes of preventable death in Australia? Have we devoted a single headline or health commissioners broadcast to health issues which kill and injure people in exponential volumes to the Virus du jour?

Re WA Health services talked recently to an insider and asked the question WTF, was told WA has plenty of space / equipment for beds but lack people.

Just had people exit the system over mandatory vaxs, and overseas recruitment hindered by COVID, money has been put up for 1000 nursing places but that all takes time.

No way are they ready for COVID.

Went into a hospital the other week to drop off pickup most of the nursing staff were Indian (by all accounts excellent)and those that weren't looked to be getting close to retirement .

I spent a bit of time in the cancer ward a few years ago. Thank fuck it was pre-covid. I was extremely fit, regularly raced on foot, on bikes, and in the water. I was happy to hike up mountains at high altitude for hours to ski steep chutes. 3 hour surf sessions on big days were fine.
Non smoker, light drinker, just unlucky. The ward was filled with people like me. Some crew didn't make it, and it wasn't because they were fat, old or unhealthy. Just unlucky. I was lucky and managed to regain my health and fitness.

Another mate was getting chemo during covid and his treatment was compromised. If covid went through the ward, he'd be fucked. He was very fit too.
