COVID-19 Health System Overload Forecaster
Distracted wrote:ID, it’s not that easy. The local ED department had 25% staff at home recently as they were close or casual contacts. So where’s the risk of injury or death, people needing emergency treatment from car crashes etc, or, a possible Covid casual contact?
So you think it's a good idea to let close contacts go to work in a medical setting???
Just before a huge wave of Covid is going to hit, when you will need as much staff as possible.
Off course not it would be crazy and completely irresponsible, imagine if those close contacts do have Covid and spread it to other medical staff or patients, you could end up with deaths in patients that have other medical conditions and you could end up in a situation where you have virtually no staff at all.
It's just common sense to try to isolate close contacts from other staff and patients.
Covid being spread in the community among generally healthy people is very different to Covid being spread in a health setting or aged care setting, even mild variant like Omicron people with health/medical issues or in aged care can and do die very easily not just from Covid but just everyday flue or something as simple as a very hot day.
@indo , you might end up with medical staff spending more time at home than at work in the coming months, possibly everyone in all industries doing the same . What’s the plan again ?

Yes many people will get exposed to the virus in the next few weeks to months so yes many will need to self isolated, there is just no getting around this, it's just part of it all, there is no magic solution to avoid this.
Or do you have a magic alternative?????
If anyone doesn't know or understand the plan by now then they have been asleep for the last two years and definitely havent been following things over the last few weeks.
1. Get vaccinated especially if you are a high risk group (old, overweight, have health issues)
2. Moving forward boaster shots will be run out, those first in line are obviously high risk groups for others it will be recommend to get the boaster but nobody is going to be forcing you to get boaster shots either, so most people you would expect will use their own noggin and weigh up the risk they are at, health, age, weigh etc and things like how current or future strains are affecting peoples health.
3. Follow recommend health measures where possible, many of these wont always be mandated so it's up to the individual to use common sense, we all know now about social distancing, wearing a mask inside, if gathering in groups try to minimise risk by doing it outdoors.
4. If your in the high risk group, have a medical condition, overweight, old, even if you have had a boaster shot you need to be more careful than others and minimise your risk even more so if a high risk group and havent had the boaster shot, for the rest of us we will highly likely get Covid at some stage and in most cases will be nothing more than like having the flue.
Moving forward it's pretty much inevitable most of us will get Covid and an important part of moving from pandemic to epidemic ensuring the community also has a degree of natural immunity that said obviously it doesn't mean if we have Covid we go purposely spreading it to others.
We have got to an important stage, one we should be happy with where we are moving from a we need to keep Covid out with crazy things like closed borders and lock downs and basic human freedoms taken away none of which I'm sure anyone wanted to live with forever.
To learning to live with Covid, reality is pretty much all of us will get Covid but we still need to minimise transmission where possible in exactly the same way we do with the flue, if we have the flue we obviously dont go to work or go socialising and we prevent spread with simple things like sneezing into a tissue.
Its all very well publicised and well known if people don't get it by now, then i doubt they will ever get it.
PS. Other things that havent been as publicised that people can choose as their own plan is preparing their bodies to deal with the virus, ensure your Vitamin D levels are good and take Zinc supplements, and even think about a plan on how you may deal with Covid when get it using medicine that has some degree of helping reduce Covid effects, although most of us don't have the money for the things that really work like Monoclonal antibodies.
@indo , South Australia has just introduced R.A.T. Instead of the PCR for interstate travelers . Today in NSW 400 people were given the all clear when in fact they were positive. A mistake that those involved have apologised for . If close or casual contacts are to isolate at home everytime , then this is going to bring everything to a halt . The RAT should be used on everyone especially medical staff before sending them into isolation. Some will not get their results for god knows how long and the government has said you can come out after 10 days . The casual , close contact will be a revolving door even if you’re triple shot and covid recovered.

I said this 2 days ago…hospital staff, ambulance drivers, fire depts…could all be understaffed and not able to perform as required. The anti vax crew don’t think this far ahead…nor do they understand the wider picture.
Authorities will scrap a requirement for negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival into SA, with the focus shifting to testing only people with symptoms, the premier announced.
https://www.sbs.com.au/news/south-australia-strengthens-covid-19-restric...
@roadkill , the antivax crew as you put it are the minority, studies have shown that the vaccine reduced transmission in the vaccinated by 60% to 40% with delta , they haven’t released what the % is with omicron.

Im sure there will be fine tuning around these things.
Im just happy with where we are at and the new narrative and approach of living with Covid especially with this new strain.
I think for the most part Australia is on the right track, personally my concerns are more with Indonesia's current approach thinking they are somehow keeping Omicron out and still have long hotel quarantine measures.
I just hope it's sooner than latter that they admit they have Omicron and stop playing this keep Covid out borders shut narrative, the sooner Indonesia has an Omicron wave the sooner they can move forward and open borders and get rid of hotel quarantine, and its highly likely with their such high levels of exposure to the Wuhan and Delta strains that they are even better prepared than we are and will see very low levels of hospitalisation like South Africa has.
Indo said “ although most of us don't have the money for the things that really work like Monoclonal antibodies. “ there are a few reports getting around on monoclonal antibodies and omicron . https://www.forbes.com/sites/williamhaseltine/2021/12/23/omicron-evades-...
Thanx crew...still shakin' & real nervous but feel better with all yer support.
Odd to say that being a Hodad you'd think we'd know better to smell trouble ahead.
tbb ain't that smart if a couple of Panadol can knock him down.
Recall discussing with GP "Don't think we should be adding fuel to the fire!" (Both agreed!)
In tbb's case...the Panadol was the Fuel! Never would many here pick that...even after reading this!
We're all runnin' a fine line...whichever we choose...cool that the crew has each of our backs.
swellnet frontline are amazing healers & tbb is feeling well enough to read along...
Truly am shocked by the incident, as any would be! Get back onboard soon enough...Salute to crew!
Good to read your spirit has lifted and that your on the mend TBB ,

Onboard staff in America are really this inept at de-escalation? 20 years after Sep 11... Could see that coming a mile away. Shouldn't take someone to be assualted and spat on before you physically remove the aggressor from the situation. How many times do you have to ask someone to move? The first three times were enough

She needs locking in the shitter for the duration of the flight.
The one that’s overflowing.
Let it rip. It’s the flu.
If we hadn’t had this crap dominate our lives and headlines for two years it would go unremarked. People get sick and people die from the flu, it’s not inhumane to accept that disease claims vulnerable people. It’s the way life has always been.
On average about 170,000 Australians die each year and no one loses their shit because that’s the natural way of the world. That’s how many people will die this year and unless those who die are shot or spontaneously combust on stage at the Opera House you will never hear about them….unless they are are amongst the few hundred who die WITH covid and then it’s supposed to be a nation shaking tragedy instead of the normal private grief experienced by loved ones.
Enough of this bullshit. Let people live.
Isolating healthy “casual contacts” of people who’ve got headaches, body aches and sniffles…..fuck off.
Handled terribly obviously. Embarrassing for her
If you go onto an aircraft and refuse to follow the directions of flight crew you signal yourself as a threat to the safety of the flight. I’ve seen the federal police called in our country for less
Blowin it’s the same in any business with safety related issues, you’re not the boss, you can’t walk into a business and tell them to fuck their rules you’ll do it you’re own way. Issues with authority is what this man had. He’d be banned from purchasing another ticket over here

No. The problem is that this woman has been empowered by two years of authoritarianism and virus hype to impose her petty tyranny upon others. If it was about the virus she would have stood well back and made sure her mask was on properly.
She was just another bossy cunt who thinks they’re permitted to inflict their shit on strangers around them.
Put her in the stocks and pelt her with fruit.
Exactly, it wasn’t about the virus, it was about his inability to follow directions which is a safety issue on any flight
What if I walked onto your worksite and said I don’t need a hard hat I can do my own thing. Cool?
I understand that the fella couldn’t expect to stay in the flight if that was the pre established ( and fucked up ) requirement to be masked, but I also expect that if it had been an airline employee who requested he mask up and not some self appointed Hitler bitch then he would have complied. Who would refuse to put on the mask when it was a condition of entry to the flight?
It sounded like he was drinking something which permits him to lower his mask for the duration and the Little Hitler didn’t think he was obeying the rule to her liking?
Either way she needs a boot in the gusset for good measure. Her narc instinct would just surface somewhere else in some one else’s face.

Yep, what an entitled pos. All about the mask/COVID safety and she ends up hucking a loogie in his face to compliment her jabs. Both him and his wife (?) Did really well to show some restraint there.
The NSW Health testing requirements aren’t sustainable at the moment unless they start incorporating the RAT, or, reducing testing requirements for casual or close contacts..
Port Macquarie, Kempsey and Coffs testing clinics all full at 8am this morning and that is with people who want to travel being turned away. Apparently people slept in the queue overnight at Coffs!
Byron and Ballina also full.
Problem with RAT is very high false negative rate, esp at beginning of infections.
Which means many people given a negative test will be positive and infectious cruising around.
I honestly think the horse has fully bolted now.
We had a negative result with the PCR test before symptoms developed. Then retested but it was 4 days before then getting the result. Had isolated in that time but a lot of people wouldn’t have bothered.
Like you said the horse has bolted… end of January will be chaos with work/ schools starting up.

Tweed also has a big cluster, Murwillumbah has cases, Mullumbimby will go big on it with really crappy vax rates.
I am at Robina testing centre…waiting for my son. Coles Miami had a few cases come in end of last week. My son got the call yesterday to get tested…he is pissed as he misses a got booted from a couple of shifts paid at public holiday rates. 2 hours waiting so far.

If you’re immune compromised why would you visit the one spot in town guaranteed to be a hot spot for infected people?
Serial killer #DomTheRipper has struck again. 3 more deaths. All other cases around Australia can be attributed to NSW too, AND idiotic state premiers following suit. Hats off to W.A for refusing to budge. A real leader.
#DomTheRipper will go down in history as Australias most prolific and successful serial killer. Aided and abetted by #CovidHazzard and #Scottytheliar, thousands will die. Remember that car accident victims etc who are ramped and die waiting for treatment thanks to covid staff shortages are also casualties of these murderous policy decisions

Cool story bro,
A little heads up to how terribly, indiscriminate and existentially ruinous the covid virus truly is. Here’s the statistics up till June 2021 before the vaccines saved all those healthy young people-especially the vulnerable children- from the equal opportunity disease which hunted down the unvaccinated!
COVID-19 mortality by age and sex
Females had a higher number of registered deaths (474) due to COVID-19 than males (446 deaths).
The highest number of COVID-19 deaths occurred among those aged 80-89 years (381). This was true for both males and females.
Males aged under 80 years had a higher number of deaths than females (144 compared with 77).
The median age for those who died from COVID-19 was 86.9 years (85.2 years for males, 88.4 years for females).
Should I have made him take the bus, Snowflake?

How old is he and how far is it? Why didn’t he ride his pushbike? If you’re so worried about getting covid I’m sure you could have found an alternative to sitting in a car besides a potentially infected person surely?
I don’t understand the desire to test.

Gawd you really are a fucking moron.
I have said many times I am not scared of covid. I have done everything I can to protect myself…I am vaxxed and I wear a mask. I am not hiding, I am not scared.
I can’t do more than that…we will all be exposed to covid…it is what it is now.
So you’re a 25 year old hospitality employee and someone was at the same Chrissy party as yourself and is covid positive, so you’ve got to isolate for a week despite being completely fine. You do your week, lose your income then re-enter the world. A day into your freedom you visit a mate who then tests positive. You are forced to isolate for a week despite being totally fine. You lose another week’s income and your savings are gone.
Then your missus comes home and tells you that she caught covid off someone at work and that she has to isolate for a week and so do you although you never catch it and are totally fine.
You’re now living on debt you can’t afford, you’ve lost your casual job cause you haven’t turned up for three weeks and your boss went bust anyway.
Then you are forced into isolation after another contact. You still don’t have covid and you e never had covid. Everyone you know who had covid got a slight headache of any symptoms at all.
You could be isolated every week for the rest of your life without ever catching the Sydney Sniffle.
What a fuvking joke. A sick, sad , fucked up , society destroying joke.

Huh? You demand the unvaccinated are locked in their basements so they don’t spread covid and then you drive your son to the superspreader epicentre to see if he’s a superspreader, because riding a pushy 5kms is too much of an ask for a 15 year old ?
It’s the exact same virus it was six months ago when you wanted the police to kick the heads of people who didn’t even have the virus because they hadn’t been jabbed. WTF?
Bin yourself bloke.
I didn’t watch the vid closely, and didn’t realise she wasn’t staff and hurled a boogie at him.

They should have put her in an undersized doggie carry cage down in the luggage hold for the remainder of the flight.
I wouldn’t be surprised if her name was Victoria Local.

Easy mistake shoredump , the first time I watched it I also thought she was a hostess because what she was wearing looked the same as hostess who eventually grabbed her . Watching a second time I realised she was just another passenger that had totally lost the plot considering she was shouting her demands while unmasked. Delta airlines seems to make headlines all the time .
