Today’s strong swell is expected to ease a touch into Saturday morning, ahead of a renewal of long period energy into the afternoon, generated by a strong fetch at the tail end of our recent Southern Ocean conveyor belt.
No great change to the weekend f/cast. A last pulse of longer period S swell generated by a final frontal progression and parent polar low transiting the Southern Ocean extends through Sat after filling in later Fri.

Charts have looked great all week with a low pressure system drifting in from the Coral Sea inside the North Island but the bad news is the low is now expected to track down the outside of the North Island with a major downgrade in swell potential.

We’re in the middle of a winter-style pattern more common in August than November with a small low formed in along a front/trough line off the Gippsland Coast accelerating W’ly winds across most of the Eastern seaboard and Tasmania. A series of deeper fronts and lows are also transiting the lower Tasman as part of this cold outbreak.
There's a ton of swell inbound and conditions will be beast in the few hours in and around dawn.
While they are not ideally positioned for maximal S swell production up the East Coast we are still looking at some useful S swell pulses over the rest of the week and into the weekend. Following that we are back to a typical summer pattern with plenty of fun E swell expected next week.
A fun new swell with offshore winds is due tomorrow, poor Friday but then improving on the weekend with a new swell for Saturday morning.
