The Israel Palestine problem solving thread
Hey crew, I'll try to catch up on the thread, it was a lovely day of waves yesterday and got to make an old dog board learn new tricks (or was it me, "go slow to go fast...")
Thank you once again to the martial arts guys, I've reflected more on the discipline and restraint aspects of these arts (and what a great hobby Adam12, would love to have the setup and knowledge to rebuild front ends of cars) - these threads are so good when one stops and considers what the other side is saying. I've reflected where I had discipline at times in my life and the success it brought, the other times of healing and rebuilding the body, and the emotions involved in this. The restraint bit is awesome as it is a bit like training I've received where one can act from a position of anger, pride, control, etc - or one can choose to look at things with acceptance, eventually leading up into universal love. This was expressed as lower to higher emotions. Anyway you guys have given me the inspiration to be disciplined once more in my practise of Qi, now that family have left after Xmas. With good teachers and devotion, do you know that it repaired damaged organs in my case? Swellnet is at it's best when one sits down and learns from others, especially the ones arguing with you. Thank you Jelly and Adam12 for sharing parts of your lives on here. Appreciated. Any name calling is fine too, the words just bounce off ;)
Anyway - back on thread, there's the hint of a solution in what you guys do, for the middle east. If people are taught the ways of martial arts, along with the self respect and the restraint that comes with it, I bet there'd be less conflict. This doesn't change the geopolitics of two peoples trying to have one land, but it would be a start. It's the first bit of solution I can see in this area since I first studied it in the mid 1990s.
Alfred - Currawongs are pied I think. And something remarkable happened yesterday, they came past with another young one, so they are beginning to socialise with nearby young birds. We have a collection: counted 4 of them hanging out. The most developed, a male, is beginning to vocalise and getting bits of their distinctive warning calls going. I'm most fond of the little girl, she hatched later, has been smaller all along, but likes our fig tree to sit in and just chill out in. Both of them had a bath together yesterday which was pretty epic, got to hear all the range of their talking to each other.

Thank you .
I read your post and liked it .
Then , I read it again , and Loved it ( will go for a trifecta ) .
A wonderful way to start a NEW page .
There were very Ugly images posted on the last page .
Have NFI why people think I want to see pictures of human carnage on SN ?
I find reading it , distressing enough .
When I don't rush , I also seem to go faster !!??
U sound like a old , young dog , to me :)
edit
Birds bathing , that's really watchable imho
Baby elephants having a mud bath is fun to watch to .
@VJ.
Lovely post.
Yeah it's amazing what you can learn off the internet.
I'm glad I lived half my life without it, but kinda sad it wasn't around back in the day, could've come in handy back then.
I've been saying way too much here recently, gonna try and give it a rest for a while.
(My brain just said "Yeah, good luck with that!")
But while the subject of elephants came up....
Some "heroes" are deep down ,,, just cunts...
Glenn McGrath is an animal-killing cvnt whose dodgy charity wastes millions rightly belonging to govt healthcare services & Dave Warner is a Tory-worshipping cheat & liar who hid his own cap so his exit would get more unearned adulation.

Israel says they have destroyed Hamas command structure.
By the language used I think we may get a slight de-escalation and a move towards less fighting and negotiation for hostage releases. However, I also think Hamas have murdered some hostages so will play games.
Will be interesting to watch it unfold
I have seen communities in Africa that benefit from Auctioning off Old Elephants for slaughter .
Have met people who are willing to pay $US10k for the privilege .
I have caught ONE big fish . A GT .
On a surfing trip in the Ments and went out one afternoon with the boys .
They put me on the line , for luck , and a fish jumped on .
I pulled it in as fast as I could , desperate not to loose it .
When I got it in the boat and SAW it , I wanted to let it GO .
Once I tasted it , I felt much better ,
How anyone can think in Manly or cool to shoot defenceless animal is beyond me .
To cull an old , sick or badly hurt animal is ok , I have done that , but wouldn't pay to do it and definitely didn't enjoy it .
edit
I am happy the Africans can find people who will pay to do it .
They can do with the money and tourism it creates .
edit
I would like the fight made more interesting .
The man can have only have two seconds to sight the target , lets say , and has to be with 40meters of the target and Up wind .
Then we yell go !
The target range is in the Elephants backyard , with a few trees around .
He has only one more bullet and a knife .
And we cage them , so no escape .
Yep Dill, murdering hostages, genocide, war crimes...all so "interesting" to watch.

Thanks Adam, I completely agree. If only the net was widespread only 5 years earlier...
In my early 20's I grew tired of mowing foam and it not being straight, and I read in tracks that WL had made a rocker machine. With no pictures I could see, no internet, a Dad who wasn't a handyman, I reverse engineered one out of thin air, it took months, had to learn how to weld, draft, custom make parts out of alloy, steel, wood; make templates.... Years later I scratched a vaccuum system for it...
Anyway the board I was surfing yesterday was cut off that 1995 single fin rocker I did - if I had the net I reckon job done on the machine in 2 weeks! It was with some satisfaction that a visit to surf world seeing Pat Morgan's machine - looks really similar to what I came up with.

your tone is noted. lol
@VJ,
Love that.
Young VJ inspired by the genius of the one and only Wayne Lynch.
Now there was/is a man ahead of his time.
And he's a Victorian!
And I loved the "go slow to go fast" thinking too.
Very true that.
Wayne Lynch had bigger b..ls than John Wayne .
He loved surfing , by himself , in huge surf in the Middle of the Southern Ocean ( probably still does , I hope ) in the middle of Winter .
Great Whites ( really big ones ) didn't bother him , at all .
Not sure if that is genius but definitely ahead of his time .
WL is a Legend down here .
edit
He NEVER trumpets his own horn and very modest .
Interesting view on helping a surfer in trouble .
Doesn't rush if there is a nice wave coming .
Waits until going down a third time .
A Just in Time , sort of guy .
We love him !
Yo @Pop,
We're doing it again!
Like our own little thread.
Time we stfu and let these boys talk about the ME.
I'm not posting again today.
But that line "Waits until going down a third time ."
I used to use that technique in the bedroom.
Very effective.
Adios.
FFS
I am commenting on WL and stop asking Q's .
We are Victorians , not u and me !!!
WL rescued a surfer from drowning AND being Eaten by a 20ft GW .
He watched the guy struggle for 39ish minutes .
Pulled him Up by the hair ( probably ) and made him lie at the Back of the board as he paddled both them to shore ( probably a mile , maybe ) .
WL had noticed , much earlier a BIG shark was around ( didn't go in ) .
The big shark started taking a REAL interest in the other surfer .
Lynhcy paddled over to him and told him off , while the guy was drowning .
Saying he wasn't UP to being out there .
WL , calmly said , hang on mate and don't kick ( didn't tell him about the shark ) .
He thought the surfer would protect him if the GW charged , by being first course , really lol .
Apparently , the shark really followed them .
WL got the guy to the beach where a group of other surfers were watching .
They asked WL if he had seen the shark .
Google it .
There is footage of him telling the story .
He said yes , and paddled back out .
No one else did .
edit
Thanks Craig .
Wayne deserves warmer water .
I just signed up for his newsletter after seeing he is still shaping boards .
He likes Bob Mc who shaped him an EVO , I think .
He makes Big ones 2 :)
edit one more
What I really like about this story was WL thoughts when the guys FIRST paddled out .
Like , oh shit , WTF , this DH will stuff up MY surf , for fn sure .
Very grumpy to see him paddle out ( I would have been happy there being an alternative dinner option for the shark ) .
WL isn't in Vicco any more PD.

I reckon old mate Stevie Wonder gets pretty close to a divine being himself.
There's a better clip than that one floating around the net @Jelly.
An old black and white Soul Train clip I think, with a bunch of Afro wearing crew dancing and doin' the funky chicken in the foreground and Little Stevie on stage laying down one of the all time greatest funk riffs ever written on the keys.
He played every instrument on that track.
If there is a God, I'd be happy to find out he is actually Stevie Wonder.

Don’t stop doing what you do on the forums, call a spade a spade.Tell it how it is not what others feel you should say. Worlds full of too many goodie two shoes, we’ve become global conservatives.

Just the other night I witnessed a possum fighting off a massive bird in the tree outside my bedroom window. The possum making the most hideous noise woke me and when I got up to investigate there it was the biggest bird I’ve seen in my backyard flapping its wings just above the possum, my guess it was a powerful owl as they are in the area. No sooner than I realised what was happening the bird silently flew away.
If it were a powerful owl that is the second sighting in the last year for me.
GuySmiley. Hi mate, hope you are keeping well.
Thanks for that great informative post. You’re a good observer that’s for sure.
Ears glued to the night, bit like myself, love the language of the ‘night shift’.
You’ve described an interaction between two wonderful animals.
Definitely a Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) in action , you’ve witnessed or heard the silent flight, usual departure mode of members of the ‘Typical Owl’ group, they love a possum or two.
Great you’ve had two encounters, good sign of the biosystems in your area, albeit , Powerful Owls face real threats at present, rodenticides that contain Warfrin, a known anti-coagulant is killing them in droves. We need a better solution to kill rats and mice.
Keep those good biological posts coming. And thanks.AW

Im pretty sure that is in the north only, there was an announcement by IDF in last 24hrs, it's been looking that way for a while though, still fighting going on but only in a couple small area's and of the 12 battalions only one is still very active the majority of the North is now under some kind of IDF control, doesn't mean there wont be small areas of fighting erupt though, but a lot of focus there now is destroying tunnels, they say its going to take months to clear and destroy those tunnels.
They also removed heaps of troops from the North last week too.
Main action is now in the South.
I think it's good news, shows there is some progress, the quicker the war is over the better, of course it would be best for everyone if Hamas just surrendered and handed over the hostages.

Up at 3am, into Geelong to a mates house, departed at 4.00am, heading to an area north of the Grampians in a farming area north of Horsham.
3 1/2 hours drive.Searching for elusive Elegant Parrots
Arrive in a potential area of a recent sighting. NOTHING for most of the day.All around, massive thunderstorms and heavy rain periodically, hot with little to no wind. Saw loads of other birds but not the goose with the golden egg.
Around 3pm, I suggest an adjacent area on the southern boundary of Little Desert National Park. Venture to its nearest edge and it was ‘on like donkey kong’
Before you know it, Elegant Parrots show their faces, co-mingled with Blue Winged Parrots,( both types of Neophema sp.) numbers get up around the 80 mark, high fives are given.
I then spot a Diamond Firetail finch ( big bird compared to other finches) having a full on bath in the water at the edge of a dam, amazing to see all it colours.Turn back to the dead stag trees where both species of Neophema are still present and we both see our very first Turquoise Parrot.
All the while there are Southern Whiteface calling and showing themselves, White Browed Babblers are hissing and chatting as well, in the end 28 species of birds in one hour. Decided doesn’t get any better than that, got in the car at 4pm, chuffed and drove back to Geelong.
Motto, never give up, regardless of your pursuits. A great day. AW
Faaaark me, if that wasn't an epic day well spent. Shit hot, AW!!
Basesix. Hi mate. It was shit hot. Still buzzing today.
When you observe non human creatures , it’s simply tantalising, just you and the organism in front of you looking straight back at you.
It’s not about ticking boxes or twitching or getting your bird count numbers up.
True bird observers are just that, ‘observers’.
You take the time to analyse as much detail as possible in the small amount of visual contact that allows you. I lock it away, stored in the mental photo album, ready anytime thereafter for a ‘total recall’.
There’s something inherently beautiful when you become familiar with traits and actions of those non human species. Good to chat as always.AW

BTW. Have you ever read about the Merneptah Stele in Egypt, its an 3,200 year old Egyptian tablet that mentions Israel and the Jews.
"The Merneptah Stele (or Israel Stele) is an engraved stone slab which describes Pharaoh Merneptah’s military victories in 1207 b.c.e. The stele itself is dated to the year 1205 b.c.e. Renowned British archaeologist Flinders Petrie discovered this two-meter-tall, inscribed granite monument in 1896 at Thebes. It contains the earliest undisputed extra-biblical reference to Israel to date.
Israel is mentioned by name in three different 9th century b.c.e. artifacts: the Mesha Stele, Tel Dan Stele and the Kurkh Monoliths, but the 9th century is still 400 years after the dating of the Merneptah Stele.
The mention of Israel in this 3,200-year-old document suggests, at the time of its inscription, the nation of Israel was an established power and not a nomadic people who had just recently entered the land of Canaan. Before the discovery of the stele, many dated the Exodus much later, but now they are forced to reconcile with the fact that Israel was already an established power in Canaan in 1207 b.c.e.

Ripping observations, I dont think I can recall anybody I’ve dealt with or know who has or is currently giving a running, valuable commentary on fledgling Currawongs, it’s awesome.
It’s almost like ‘population biology’ analyses you’d do at a university.
The sheer fact you can recall who’s who in the zoo is admirable.
Yourselves and your kids must be loving it.
When you get the chance and have the time, please let me know the total number of birds, and what numbers and sexes are from which parents. It’s fascinating, so much to learn, even from just the few birds that frequent your locale.
They must love your habitat, be it natural or contrived.

Guy Hi. Your partner obviously doesn’t read Swellnet forums.
Based on that description, you’ve got an incredible ‘borrowed’ landscape, amazing, looking into the vegetation of the State Park, your view would be an envy to most.
I hear many a sound at night, ( live on 5 acres adjacent a National Park 3kms away) mostly recognisable , but sometimes you hear single sounds of critters and more than often they are not what you think they may be.
Recently, I woke to a small sound which sounded like a bird, went outside, waited, located the organism by just following and getting closer to the sound, it turned out to be a frog I’d never heard previously.
Many diurnal birds call at night time, some nights here, Magpies talk the whole night.
Microbats call, best way to fathom the sound they make is to get somewhere very quiet, the noise is similar to the sound when you touch the positive and negative poles of jumper leads together. A very quick and light ‘ zit’.
Many insects make noises and calls that could easily pass for a bird or another type of animal.
We use those infrared nature cameras here, very interesting watching the footage the next day, you fully understand when we are sleeping, many other organisms are not. Great stuff, Guy. AW.
@AW, Thanks.
Yeah, been trying to exorcise a few demons of late.
Sad times for me ATM. Dealing with the decision to have to say goodbye to the love of my life these past twenty (yes, twenty) years, my little Jack Russell Jesse.
It's fkn killing me atm.
Anyway, for you, the master of soul, with a question he asked decades ago, still as precient today as it was then, and then in reference to a post I did a few days ago and as inspiration for all us protagonists here, some soul/R&B from the one and only O'Jays.
I’ve got an idea, people like Jelly Flater, adam12 and friends, instead of going on and on in forums, why not put your money where your mouth is and get on a plane to Gaza to fight alongside Hamas against Israel and the US?
Olly, how ‘bout you put your head back up your arse and bugger off!
Hey AW..... i grew up in the Sunset District in a house that faced East, five blocks up from the sand. So, with my bedroom at the back of the house, my back window looked out at the ocean. Smack bang across from The Farallones. It's foggy a great deal of the time and you can only see them on a very clear day. I dunno how many times a year.... probly around 50 or so. So, grew up lookin at em.
I have never been out to them. I have been out fishing (salmon) in relative proximity, but that's it.
I feel like they are bad juju. A forbidden zone. With or without the pointers.
I think there is actually some local maritime wisdom to this effect. I'll have a look and produce what i find for ya, but am at work now, and gotta be at that. But check out pics of them and tell me they don't look a little hellish.

Oliver .Ricci or Ollie for short or Oliver going around the Twist. Are you going well ?
We are lovers not fighters pal. We love to orate, we love to punch keys, we love normal human interaction ,we love learning, we love engaging with others, we love surfing, we love the meteorological, climatological, biological worlds, we love normal human behaviour, we love abnormal human behaviour , we love discussing all types of verbal communication, we even love those who love religion, we love political dialogue, we love medical and science discussions, something by the way of your nature you are incapable of performing it appears.
Just because you’ve absorbed the propaganda spread by others, doesn’t mean it’s ’for real’, use your own brain, search , delve into stuff, seek your own answers, stop relying on second hand biases from organisations that feed the viruses.
Don’t you get it, we are just one endless Zoom meeting of Lovers, doesn’t mean we’re not real, why would we want to go and fight in Gaza and add to the atrocities, death and misery to that unfortunate situation.
It’s not a matter of sides .
I ve noticed you’re no literary giant, we are forgiving, we love learners, but only if they want to learn themselves. ‘ With eyes completely open, but nervous all the same’. ‘ Absolute Beginners’ , song by David Bowie 1986, well worth a listen .
It’ll sharpen your mind. AW
AW I absolutely love the low nighttime chatter of magpies thanks

Adam12. That’s a terrible situation when it comes ‘time’. We’ve all done it, rips ya heart and soul out mate.
I’m sure Jesse will be dreaming of that great big ‘femur’ in the sky, she’ll eventually wrap her lips around it and every time she gives it a chew and a lick, she’ll think of you and how great you were together. Sincere condolences from my end. Keep well, let us know in due course , some of the great things or traits she use to do. AW

Guy. Same. It’s at a lower tone, it’s like continuous mumbling, I often wake thinking I’m hearing people talking, then realise it’s magpies, how lucky we are to have such a bird that the whole nation loves and rates as No.1 on the perch. AW
Haha oliver ;)
- you’ve lost the fight with your head going up ya arse that’s for sure
Take ya shit breath somewhere else ;);)
Hi Alfred I'll put the Currawong stuff up on the bird & botany thread

VJ. Cheers. AW
Because the world would be a better place if leaders only listened to Swellnet commenters, we've created a forum that makes it easy for them to gather our thoughts.
