Just wondering what exactly you guys are getting at here? I once sat on a bond trading desk for a small part of my career.

Hi GSCO it's stuff like this, 1 day old:

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/bank-japan-offers-buy-unlimited-10-yea...

It's been threatened before:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-japan-bonds-idUSKBN19S0YI

I'd welcome any bond discussion from you. This is the kind of thing I've been seeing for over a decade, and I've seen the exasperation of traders who ruefully ask to have free markets back.

Okay I see where you’re coming from.

The complication here is bond markets are where central banks conduct monetary policy.

In this sense, I’d describe bond markets as free markets in which central banks are basically just another trader, but with some clout that distorts the natural operation of the market.

The dominant macroeconomic policy orthodoxy in advanced economies has for the last few decades been less use of fiscal policy and more reliance on monetary policy for macroeconomic management via inflation targeting, with a focus on macroeconomic stability and supply side reforms to stimulate long-term economic growth.

Yes and when economies didn’t respond this led to extremely low interest rates in Japan for a long time and western economies since the GFC, which is partly (but not wholly, not even mostly) responsible for the asset price bubbles we’re seeing.

I once worked for one of your kind, the guy wanted red gum posts in the job and I remarked I don’t use a rapidly disappearing species just to make a paling fence, he said “I don’t care if it’s the last fucking red gum tree on the planet, I want red gum, I said BYE.

This is voting with your feet. More of this when possible and if individually desired. Walking the talk Alfred. Enjoy your retirement. Yes another tradie may have finished the job maybe. But it's the ethical choice of resisting that on mass can change attitudes and behaviour. Vote with where you take your buisness and what you consume. Take your power back. And take a fucking stand.

Hear hear RW. Many on this site are lamenting the state of the major political parties (as do I), and where they are leading this country. My take on the current state of politics in this country is that it is more a case of the parties just reflecting the views of the majority of the population, the rump that decides who is in power. Our voters have proven at the ballot box that we care more about keeping taxes low, "growth", having the cash to purchase the next iphone and 90 inch flat screen tv to replace the 75 incher because it's too small and the t shirt that I'll wear 15 times and throw out, and the latest gurney from bunnings not to mention the smoothie from the cafe in the plastic cup with the plastic lid and the plastic straw that ends up in landfill because I can't be arsed holding onto it until i find a recycling bin..., and keeping out boat people etc etc., than they do about the state of this country in 10, 20 and 50 years. We will get what we deserve (or our children will).

That's it gsco, we are on the same page. In the absence of the market operating without their influence, I tend to barrack for them as you might a football team, to deliver what I think would be a better policy.
In this case things have got very distorted and out of whack, and a return to a more historical rate of interest would dull the excesses of this 'everything boom' (asset prices reset) and give the system a better chance of continuing on, rather than blowing itself up, as per a Von Mises quote I recently put in one of the threads... However the debt amounts are so large that the servicing would become more problematic. Someone is going to have to make a tough decision. Raise those rates Mr Powell!
If not, the BOJ will end up owning the entire universe.

The lawyers acting for Bruce Lehrmann, the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins in Parliament House, have applied for a stay in proceedings due to the prejudicial statement made in Parliament by Scott Morrison in his apology to women.
In other words, Scomo has sabotaged the trial. The only question is whether it was done purposely or is Scott simply just a fucking idiot out of his depth. I think it's the latter.

Actually you can thank Krudd for this, those still in PNG and Nauru are from the Krudd era, when he scrapped the pacific solution program, to trial an open borders policy that failed, before back flipping, if it wasn for Krudd, Manus and Nauru would have been closed down long ago and billons saved.

Bad decsions like that sadly can have very long lasting effects and cost.

LNP governments since have come up with a number of options to resettle these people including resettlement in PNG and Cambodia (both signed to the refugee convention) and resettled many in the USA, although they rejected pretty much all the Iranians finding them non genuine.

BTW. There is actually none living in the centre on Nauru, all live in the community even the Refugee Council of Australia says this

"Currently, refugees on Nauru are all living in the Nauruan community, with no one living in the RPCs since the end of March 2019."

https://www.refugeecouncil.org.au/operation-sovereign-borders-offshore-d...

BTW. For those that didnt clue onto the obvious from the article that off course is set to mislead, the cost per person rises as you re-settle people.

You’re pretty hard on old Scotty…he did gets us through a whole bunch of disasters including a global pandemic pretty well. As he says , there was no playbook for this. He also had the balls to call out China on the source of it all when everyone else was quivering trying not to offend their money master. Really the only thing that bothers me about him , is when he tries to get everyone to like him all the time and always kooks it up. I’ve never seen anyone more beat up than him and it’s not really justified as I don’t think anyone on this forum or any current politicians could have done better under the circumstances. I know if my wife paid for a one week Hawaiian family holiday and I hadn’t had one for years you wouldn’t get me back here just to pretend I was in control of the state firies , but he came back anyway and no one cared anyway.. I think it’s frydenburgs turn now to lead but I for one am grateful someone got us through some pretty tough times reasonably unscathed and all that while the modernist media beat the shit out of him. I hope he quits politics and gets himself a better paying job somewhere where he is valued as a person for at least trying his best with the ability he was born with limited or otherwise…..but not in advertising…please no.

Live TV ratings are pretty much irrelevant these days with on demand TV, most people would just watch what they normally watch and then if they have interest in it, just go watch it on, on demand latter often fast forwarding to the report or interview etc of interest.

Which reminds me i need to go watch the interview.

I'm not sure if he will be as fun as Clive's last candidate in Corangamite. Clive gave his last candidate a dozen billboard trailers, which were quickly stolen by the candidate, and rebadged into a micro micro party. I think he got 46 votes in total.

It's 'later' as in see you later. Watch it on demand 'later'.

Latter means the end of something or choosing the second option. For example, the 'latter' part of 2021 or if given the choice, I would choose the 'latter' rather than the former.

Another blatant lie from pm scumbag and the nsw libs.
The nsw state gov have shut the passenger train network down today after the rail workers union threatened to take strike action over new employee enterprise agreements.

"Mr Elliott denied the union's claims that the NSW government had shut down the rail network.
He said the decision to close the network was made by Transport for NSW and was an "operational matter".
Transport for NSW is a state government agency, which Mr Elliott ultimately has responsibility for as minister."

The pm weighs in: "All I know about the unions today is in my home city of Sydney, they have shut down the city with a massive big strike...". Bullshit mr pm.
