etarip you are totally misreading a distrust of the democrats as some kind of love for trump. tbh I have total trump fatigue syndrome, the guy is exhaustung, in so many ways, but when I look at most of the old school democrats I don't think they deserve power

they are a bunch of dogs that raise my ire

trump is a disgrace that should have never have happened. a disgrace only eclipsed by the democrats reactions to him

Well, we agree on something. Trump is a skid mark.

FWIW, I copped a couple of days worth of grief from my wife for not sharing her unbounded optimism about Biden’s victory. For pointing out the high likelihood of ‘business as usual’ US Govt, Biden’s foreign policy fuckups as VP, and the limits of his ability to meaningfully change anything for the better.

She’s way scarier than the assembled warriors of Swellnet.

Etarip,
Further to your comment about Bidens' foreign policy agenda. When he was first nominated to run for President I read an article (sorry can't remember where) that suggested the the full-on hawks and neo-cons thought that a Biden presidency would be a good thing, because he would militarily intervene in Iran (Trump, contrarily, being non-interventionist).
Biden is also going to have his hands full with Taiwan and the North Korean proxy!

Wonder if he will go back into Iraq to find those Weapons of mass destruction that he thought existed when he was privy to all intelligence communications even though every punter around the planet knew they never existed ?

Oh wait....the US never left did they ?

Maybe he will go looking for weapons of mass destruction in Pakistan now ? Oops - that might hurt his business partners in China.

San G. Agreed. US Foreign Policy is a hot mess. I hope the Biden team can develop some coherence. He also needs to listen to be prepared to listen to experts in State (and DoD) before making decisions. His role in the Iraq post elections in 2011 was a debacle. Backed the wrong horse, against the advice of almost everyone, resulting in a (further) loss of legitimacy for the US after the relative success of the surge / awakening.

I think the words from Republican Senator Pat Toomey offer a rational but short summation:

"Recruiting thousands of Americans from around the country to descend on the Capitol, promising a ‘wild ride’ and inciting them to attack the Capitol building so as to prevent the constitutional responsibility of the vice president and the Congress to complete the peaceful transfer of power,"

“The president spiraled down into a kind of madness that was different. I’m sorry if people don’t acknowledge that, I think what he did this past week is wildly different from the offensive tweets that were common during his presidency,"

To falsely and baselessly dispute the election result and claim that it was corrupted (especially after losing dozens of court cases), meets the bar for incitement.

How many actually use the guns they hold,?pretty much none.

From Trumps speech to his 'followers' on the morning of the The Capitol March:

"And after this [speech], we're going to walk down—and I'll be there with you—we're going to walk down, we're going to walk down, any one [street] you want, but I think right here {he looks off-stage to make sure he has it right}, we're going to walk down to *the Capitol*...{crowd roars}...and we're going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women. And we're probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong"

"...and I'll be there with you"

So where was he? Being cowardly strong. From the safety of being out of range.

Maybe enjoying his last twitter from the shitter is my guess, and now looking for a new megalomaniacal megaphone social media source that allows him to continue to preach to the flock.

"Didn’t they run over people and shot a couple of people Indo."

There has been incidents of protestors/rioters getting hit by cars, which isn't really a surprise when mobs of people are running around crazy on the streets, streets are for cars and people still need to get from A to B.

The main incident in the media was a women who's car was mobbed by protestors and when tried to get away ran some over, she was charged even though it was not her fault.

Could happen to anyone in that circumstance, imagine how scary it would be if you were surrounded by these mobs, you would be scared shit less and just want to get away.

Nothing at all to do with so called right wing militia groups.

There has been shootings both ways a Trump supporter was shot dead by Antifa no scuffle just a full on planed ambush.

The other way there is Kyle Rittenhouse he was not involved in RW groups he was pro police blue lives matter.

He was basically trying to protect a friends car dealership business with another guy, then the crowd moved to another car business down the road so he moved trying to protect it, he got shot at and chased by the mob one throws something that hits him in the back of the head the guy goes for his Kylies gun so Kylie shoots him dead Kylie then tries to get away.

But the mob catch him one guy stomps his head so he try to shoot him, he misses the guy runs off, then another tries to smash his head with a skateboard, he shoots him dead, then he shots another guy with a gun in the arm holding the gun.

If the police or army had been doing their job and protecting business and getting these anarchist off the streets he wouldn't need to be there defending business and defending himself.

Thats the real problem the fact that the authorities dont take these anarchist seriously and just let them do as they wish.

Edit: yeah you could say the same thing with Capitol once things got out of hand they should have been more prepared there actually was tear gas and water canons but obviously not enough and no rubber bullets, should have been spraying the crowd with rubber bullets like they should have BLM & Antifa.

“– Starts with Woke Capitals banning you on Twitter
– Then you build your own social media app
– Woke Capitals then ban you from app stores
– Then you build your own distribution networks
– Woke Capitals then bans you from hosting your app on their servers
– Then you buy your own servers to host your app
– Woke Capitals then blacklists, you, your family and your associates from using Visa or Mastercard“

Today in history (it's still the 10th in the US)

10 January 49 - Caesar crosses the Rubicon

"During persistent meetings in early January 49 the senators heard the contents of letters in which Caesar offered, arguably correctly, to retain only 'Gaul this side of the Alps and Illyricium'. But the noble Consul Lentulus had the motion proposed that Caesar should leave his army by a fixed date'. It was blocked by the veto of the tribunes; one of them was a loyal supporter of Caesar , now in his mid 30's, Marcus Antonius' ('Mark Antony'). So on 7 January Lentulus proposed the 'ultimate decree' against the vetoing tribunes. Mark Antony and his colleagues promptly fled to Caesar, ever the 'people's friend'. Caesar was already on hand on 'this side' of the Alps and had only a few of his troops with him. But he did not hesitate. He decided to attack across the river-boundary into Italy, a frank initiation of a civil war. On 10 January he watched gladiators at exercise, bathed and dressed for dinner. Quietly, he slipped away from his guests and by a prearranged, roundabout route, reached the river Rubicon where he paused."

This quote is from the absolutely excellent "The Classical World," by Robin Lane Fox. I quote for purpose of review; it is a great and handy read, certainly far easier than lugging Gibbons' momentous work around. Available as a Penguin, it's also affordable and I gave my copy to my eldest as he traveled through southern Europe where he wondered amongst ruins. Let's continue with Caesar:

"He thought, it is said, of the enormous evils which would follow for mankind if he crossed and of the reputation of the crossing among posterity. 'The die is cast,' he said theatrically, quoting the Greek poet Menander, and then he crossed the river."
