Back onto matters Covid, the teenager has tested positive after contact on New Years eve so we are in home iso as close contacts. Just as we finally get some offshores, bugger! The missus and I have had the 2+1 vax and are both testing negative, so maybe the vax actually works after all. Who would have thought. Stay well everyone.

If you believe the so called experts it can take up to 14 days to show up

Three days is the typical incubation period for Omicron apparently.

Hope your surviving Blackers. Had the same issue over Xmas, with 10 days home isolation but somehow no one else got it. We made an effort at isolation but try and keep a teenager out of the kitchen, so was pretty surprised it didn’t spread. That was with three in the family double vaxed and one not vaxed.

Now wondering if it would have been better if we all got it so the isolation was done in one go, worst case could end up with five separate periods of house hold isolation!

Cheers mate. All well so far, just a bit boring. Kinda like the shouty back and forth abuse going on here. Carry on gentlemen.

Before anyone questions why I was posting at 2.54 am it’s because I got woken by my phone ping with this email from my daughters daycare and couldn’t get back to sleep . FC9-AEA8-D-D932-42-DB-BC0-F-B0262-D416438 I find it ridiculous that they expect me to isolate a 5 yo for 7 days that isn’t displaying any symptoms and to also line up in town for a PCR test . Plus surely the same is expected of my wife , mother and me . I’m not even going to attempt to find a RAT .

“I’m not doing-this for myself or Novak, but for the FREE WORLD” was his first statement after his promotion.

Haha yeah thanks Brutus , we pretty much keep to ourselves anyway, last year I even took my daughter out of daycare for 3 months out of concern from her bringing covid into the house and infecting my mother, this was before vaccination. I will have to get woollies if they have any staff left to helicopter in a food package .

It's running rampant now by looks of it. Yep stating the obvious I know
Tappa Teece who I follow on Instagram for Goldie surf report just posted he is positive. Get well soon and stay safe people.
On Sunny Coast, ya would be hard pressed getting PCR test anywhere. Colleague with his family sat in car for over 8 hours, waiting since 7am. When tested only about 10 cars left as others who had turned up were turned away. Had to use nearby public facilities such as local pool for toilet etc. So if they are positive, they have spread it around further?? Drove past same testing site yesterday, queue banked up and big sign saying already closed at 11am.
No chance of getting a RAT up here, so my guess vast majority of people would not be getting tested.
I know my family with 8 year old daughter won't be sitting in car for 8 hours. Word was also people parking their car in queue night before to get place near front.
Was talking with Friend's wife who works in aged care, and I asked if they were taking RATS before shifts... Nup.
Brings whole new meaning to clusterfuck.... Oh yeah, should be able to get in for booster mid February!
Glad Scomo and the adults are in charge.

Of course it's tragic I have a son the same age, he got delta last year in Europe, had a cough and sore throat for 2 days that was it, his wife didn't get it.
How do you know it's bullshit, you are only believing what the msm are telling you, you don't know his health status or what else he was taking, way more young are having issues/dying from the jab than with covid, the key word is with not from.
Know a few with heart problems that are jabbed with covid, those I know not jabbed are fine or midly sick, go figure.

Video below.
1. Suggests omicron evolved in mice and that we may have got lucky in that it evolved to be less harmful and seems likely to displace other variants and create rapid community immunity.
2. Mentions an anecdotal report from South Africa said it just flew through the country in one month to both vaccinated and unvaccinated.
- people often had no idea where or how they caught it (even those not out and about much caught it) - super contagious.
- people getting not much affect or equivalent of bad cold with severe body aches.
- assume vaccination helped with symptoms but not clear on that.

The virus is playing its own fast paced game and cares nothing about experts or even previously successful strategies to contain it. It can be slowed and effects modified but it will do what it wants and fast.

Omicron could be the fastest new "vaccine" we will all get. Might end the vax debate!?

The peak will be in weeks, not months.

Why would you get a booster when you were sold on the first 2 working and they don't? Unless mandated for your job? Those i know that had to get it for work won't be unless forced to again.

I reckon I had it on New Years or there abouts.

I’d surfed pretty intensively over a couple of days and then got real tired at the end of the second day. Thought I’d just gone too hard and surfing without a shirt under the hot sun had drained me. Went for a paddle the next day and wasn’t feeling it. Felt like I needed another coffee to get me cranking but that didn’t do much. Surf was average so I cruised. Next day surf was the same so I flagged it again, though I probably would’ve gone for a thrash normally.

By the third day the surf started to pump so I surfed twice in demanding conditions but was cooked by the end of it.

Over the three days I’d gotten a few conditions which I get sometimes but which haven’t had for months and months - Sore lower back, ache in my knee. Indigestion. 5 minutes of stomach cramp. 5 minutes of night sweats. A bit of brain fog. A cold sore and a little rash on my face.

Individually the symptoms were unusual but fuck all. Just signs of being run down. Together they indicate the death plague.

My lady got a bit tired but still gardened all day as she loves to do. She got a strange rash on her back and an ache in her neck which bothered her a bit.

My mother in law ( upstairs, 84 years old) got a bit tired and the sniffles.

We all had nanna naps during the time which I never do.

The father in law ( 86, Parkinson’s) got nothing.

Sounds like a pretty standard outcome.

For work mandates, and I am guessing eventual travel mandate. Also I tend to believe they are beneficial, maybe not as effective as first thought, but the science from my understanding does demonstrate to reduce the severity of disease.

You were also told the vaccine stops transmission and get vaccinated to protect your community. This was a lie, so what is stopping them lying about the severity of the disease.

On a side issue but relevant to covid.

A subsequent video that played on from the same guy in the above vid suggests reducing fever too much reduces your immune response. The fever has a purpose - it is the body fighting the bug and the body self regulates.

Also too much fluid when sick can make fluid go to the brain or lung tissue and it swells which can cause problems.

Interesting if true and counter to standard medical advice.

Animals, when sick seek out warmth - not to cool themselves like humans do with medicine. They also retreat and hide and do not eat (digestion uses a lot of energy) to save all energy to fight the bug.

So when sick it can be best to think like an animal - retreat, rest keep warm but not too warm and save your energy to fight the bug. Don't be a hero and soldier on or surf especially in cold water.

It seems that the main cultish, braindead, zombie-like behaviour that is occurring right now (and there's a lot of it...) is when people are feeling unwell, instead of curling up nice and warm on the couch, watching their favourite movies and ordering their partner around to wait on them hand and foot, they are actually going out and standing in line for hrs or camping out in their cars for more than 24hrs, etc, in order to get a covid test.

I've seen cars line up for 10s of miles down the street around the corner from my house waiting to get into the drive-through testing clinic. What the hell are these people doing out there?

Isn't this is the absolute worst thing a person can do? Isn't this just going to spread the virus even more if you've got it, significantly increase the risk of getting it if you don't already have it, and make you even more sick if you're already sick from whatever, virus or not?

I must be really stupid but how did the population of Australia get brainwashed into this kind of behaviour? There seems to be something going very wrong here.

Isn't the wisest decision making process to stay indoors and rest up, if you start to feel really unwell go to hospital, if you are too unwell and don't have anyone to take you into hospital then call an ambulance?

- people often had no idea where or how they caught it - super contagious.
- people getting not much affect or equivalent of bad cold with severe body aches.
- assume vaccination helped with symptoms but not clear on that.

The virus is playing its own fast paced game and cares nothing about experts or even previously successful strategies to contain it.

I love stories with zero fact or proof. Funny, an anti vax idiot knows no one that has had covid that has had issues, yet everyone that had a vax had issues.

gsco, at least the sheer ridiculous craziness of the massive queues for tests has been noticed and is getting a relatively fast policy and practice shift - to RAT tests.

This is an unusually fast and logical pivot for experts and pollies. Gives one hope.

We may look back and thank Omicron and those pesky mice for the exit ramp.

Pretty crazy that he was not only young and fit but also double vaxed.

I think the article is irresponsible in that it doesn't mention the strain though, 100% it would be delta.

Agree.
Would be quite relevant in present circumstances.

That seems to be what is being advised now.

The rationale would be that the cornerstone of having some sort of control of infections is test and trace. A main assumption of the Doherty Institute modelling.

If you lose control of testing, as has happened, then you have no idea how much virus is circulating.

Not saying I disagree with your assessments, just that there is some rationale behind it.

I lined up at 4:30am till 8am for my test, but I took a blanket and slept in my car for the first half. Required to get it for work. When I got home at 9am they sent me an email acknowledging the difficulties and advising to forget about PCR and just get a RAT. Face palm moment that one.
Now I’m commuting several hours a day on public transport through the guts of the city, and if I catch it I’m unemployed until the next intake in 7 weeks time. Our instructor tested positive on day 2.

Joining an airline in the middle of a pandemic, I never said I wasn’t a gambler

I suspect I had it too, but will never know. My wife and daughter went to Chinatown for Chinese New Year in 2020 (yeah, I thought so too)
My wife was bed ridden for a week after, I had a mild temp and my daughter was fine. There was no testing then but we isolated. My mum called over but I didn’t let her in, we both think that was a sliding doors moment

I'm injured so spending too much time in this forum but I'm liking the "real world" anectdotes rather than the canned MSM stuff.

So my wife spoke to her Yoga teacher today who is not vaccinated out of choice and she is Covid free. All of her fellow yoga teachers are double vaccinated and they all have tested positive for covid. I have no idea what that means but I just read an article in the UK Telegraph about the labour leader who is triple vaccinated and has "caught" Covid three times so far.

I dunno what's going on but it's mighty confusing.

I agree roadkill, the qld border should be removed.

I also think it's time to scrap covid testing altogether, am failing to see the point of it now.

Actually I'm struggling to see the point of continuing to report daily covid numbers either, other than it now just being a spectator sport.

(Apologies if I offended anyone who went out to get tested recently and had to wait in line etc.)

Nightclubs to close, surgery restricted as ‘safety measures’ return to NSW The NSW government is preparing to announce a major reversal of COVID-19 restrictions by shutting nightclubs, banning singing and dancing in pubs, and pausing major events and some elective surgery in response to the state’s surging Omicron caseload.

The changes were expected to be finalised on Friday after NSW recorded 70,000 coronavirus cases in two days and a significant increase in the number of hospitalised patients, government sources not authorised to speak publicly said on Thursday night. The measures are to be signed off by the government’s COVID economic recovery committee on Friday morning. The decisions were made following a meeting of the committee on Thursday morning.
It represents a major reversal of Premier Dominic Perrottet’s insistence that NSW would stay open despite the high caseload and comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison told the nation it must “ride the wave” of the Omicron variant.

Meanwhile, elective surgery restrictions are also expected to be re-introduced on Friday, after the Premier flagged the state government was “looking at” limiting procedures as well as mobilising private hospitals to deal with what health authorities have said will likely be a rapid, but short, case surge.

The Premier’s office was contacted for comment but did not reply before deadline. More than 3800 health staff were furloughed in NSW due to COVID-19 exposure on Wednesday, up from 2200 the previous week.

On Wednesday night, Victoria announced it would also be suspending non-urgent surgery “to help hospitals respond to the increasing number of patients with coronavirus”.

Earlier this week, the Herald revealed COVID-positive patients were already taking up beds in private hospitals, as both part of public hospital surge plans and as a result of those patients receiving other care. There were 1609 COVID-19 cases in hospital on Thursday.

Non-urgent surgery was suspended in private and public hospitals in Greater Sydney in August, to free staff for involvement in vaccination programs and to provide care for rising hospitalisations in the city’s Delta wave.

Elective surgery was reintroduced slowly from October: first just day surgery, and then all non-urgent operations. Private hospitals were briefed on the changes on Thursday. They were told some more urgent categories of day surgery would still be allowed under the new rules, which will come into effect on Monday.

“Next week is the first week that we were coming back to any sense of normality – most surgeons are on holiday right now, they may not be looking at the news at all,” a senior Sydney surgeon not authorised to comment said, expressing concern about how hospitals would implement the restrictions on such a tight turnaround.

The backlog created by 2021’s elective surgery shutdown was significant. Data from the end of September showed the elective surgery wait list had reached 92,000 patients before procedures were gradually re-allowed.

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons had expected the waiting list for procedures to grow significantly in early 2022, when people caught up on medical appointments missed during the lockdown. “This was when we were planning to surge after the Delta shutdown,” said president of the college Dr Payal Mukherjee, who added the number of staff in isolation was “causing a lot of chaos in the system”.

NSW president of the Australian Medical Association Dr Danielle McMullen said the decision to suspend surgery was “inevitable” given the impact of rising case numbers on the hospital system “but not unavoidable”.

“Elective surgery is not ‘unnecessary surgery’, it is serious medical care and delaying that care impacts on the quality of life for many Australians,” she said.

“Elective surgery shouldn’t be a tap that government turns ‘on’ and ‘off’ to cover for serious cracks in our healthcare system.”

Amid record numbers of staff on furlough, NSW Health Deputy Secretary Susan Pearce on Wednesday said the ministry planned to more than quadruple the number of vaccinations it was delivering at its state hubs, providing more than 300,000 shots a week by the end of January.

Opposition Leader Chris Minns said on Thursday the government should have avoided the need to consider restricting operations to keep the health system appropriately staffed, with case numbers needing to have been curtailed earlier.

“It shouldn’t have come to this; resources should have been put in place earlier,” he said.

FFS when will you people realise that the vaccine doesn’t stop you from getting covid. What it does do it reduces the severity and reduces your transmissivity.

Quite amazing the free case study the QLD government has given us over the last few weeks. One week before opening the border we had 7 new cases. One week after opening the border we were at a daily figure of 59 new cases (actually the day i realised i was infected with delta). Now as of yesterday we are at 10332 new cases incredible the rate of infection.

maybe it is just a form of venting, because a shit load of people 'did the right thing'... went out and got vaxxed... on the back of a pretty high claims marketing campaign... and those claims haven't stacked up...

Tell that to the experts and premiers and their marketing campaign to get vaxxed to protect the community.

You would have to be living under a rock to not have heard/seen these.

You were sold a lemon. Imagine buying a car sedan and the sales person said it would be a great 4wd. That’s what has happened
