How’s this quote ( referring to hoarding food after telling Australians that the country is headed for indefinite lock down and not providing a single insight into how Australians will be fed or cared for during this time . )......

"Stop doing it. It's ridiculous! It's un-Australian, and it must stop, and I would ask people to do the right thing by each other in getting a handle on these sorts of practices," he said.“

Scummo, after a career spent subsuming the Australian identity under the flood of competing cultures , and a career spent stimulating and fomenting the exact same FOMO , Fuck-you-I’ve-got-mine attitude amongst the population to create the housing Ponzi scheme , is now falling back to an appeal to recollect the Australian communal spirit.

After doing everything within his power to destroy the concept of Australian society and replace it with an economic zone consisting of fractured multicultural sub-groups .

Scummo .....you’re a liability , son. Your inability to lead or think or act without first running it through a computation of corrupted profiteering and plausible deniability is unprecedented.

Fuck off....is too kind.

SD wrote 'we humans are funny creatures....we really need to be directly impacted by something tangible before we take action'
Which begs the question why aren't world leaders rounding up all the leading virology scientists and putting them all together in the biggest and most well equipped laboratory we have on this planet and get them working together.
This crisis solution needs to be bigger than pharmaceutical companies competing against each other for the $ prize for who will be first with a vaccine.
We need to look back in history at the Manhattan Project where all these incredible minds came together and also invite say 20 people with really high IQ's who the virology scientists can feed lots of information to, and get varied out of the box thinking feedback which might help speed up the process.

I went surfing at a spot with a crowded car park but a relatively empty lineup. It amazed me that crew were just chatting away as though nothing was going on whilst elsewhere there was armed guards patrolling the shit paper.

Crew around here treat the situation like a Boxing Day sale. Big opportunity to get some shopping done but otherwise it’s chilled as fuck.

Surf was fun enough. Too hot in a spring suit and it was nice to still be in boardies. The tropic brew wax was a nightmare however. Just about ripped myself another arsehole doing the splits-to-disaster recovery first wave.

Paddling well wide with no one around and having masses of garfish showering out of the chocolate brown water towards me put the pep back into my paddle stroke after batting the four knot current and the endless cleanup sets .

Swap you for some bog roll :)

Ballina IGA is the quietest shop in town, normally there's about half a dozen people in the whole supermarket.

But at least before I went to the IGA I got some wax.

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we are the cure.

"...Is Australia taking this thing seriously? There were no temperature scanners in Sydney airport. No other travellers were asked anything about their health. A friend of mine arrived in Melbourne a few days ago direct from Italy, and she says she asked some detailed questions of a customs official about self-isolation. The official just smiled at her: "Just do your best darl."

Australia is heading for trouble. This isn't a country in lockdown, it's a country going through the motions.

Just a week before we left Italy, no one there was taking coronavirus too seriously. People were joking about it. They weren't changing their habits or changing their way of life. My family and I were the same.

But then everything changed. As it will here. Soon."

"...Unsurprisingly, China also has enablers abroad helping to whitewash Beijing’s culpability. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus refused for months to declare a pandemic, and instead thanked China for “making us safer,” a comment straight out of an Orwell novel. This is the same WHO that has refused to allow Taiwan membership, due undoubtedly to Beijing’s influence over the WHO’s purse strings."

taiwan who totally nailed it in their virus response I'll add...

"...Most egregiously, some Chinese government officials have gone so far as to claim that the Wuhan virus was not indigenous to China at all, while others, like Mr. Tedros, suggest that China’s response somehow bought the world “time” to deal with the crisis. That such lines are being repeated by global officials and talking heads shows how effectively China’s propaganda machine is shaping the global narrative. The world is quickly coming to praise the Communist Party’s governance model, instead of condemn it.

The reality is that China did not tell its own people about the risk for weeks and refused to let in major foreign epidemiological teams, including from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. Thus, the world could not get accurate information and laboratory samples early on. By then, it was too late to stop the virus from spreading, and other world capitals were as lax in imposing meaningful travel bans and quarantines as was Beijing.

Because of China’s initial failures, governments around the world, including democratic ones, now are being forced to take extraordinary actions that mimic to one degree or another Beijing’s authoritarian tendencies, thus remaking the world more in China’s image. Not least of the changes will be in more intrusive digital surveillance of citizens, so as to be able to better track and stop the spread of future epidemics, a step that might not have been necessary if Beijing was more open about the virus back in December and if the WHO had fulfilled its responsibilities earlier.

The Stakes for China and Globalization

Regardless of how much some governments and global voices praise China, Xi and the Communist Party care about dominating the propaganda war because the Wuhan virus has stood their nation on a razor’s edge. Xi’s own legitimacy is not merely at stake. His government is ferociously fighting to divert blame and attention, fearing that the world rightfully may utterly reassess modern China, from its technocratic prowess to its safety. Decades of a carefully curated global image may crumble if nations around the globe start paying attention to China’s lax public health care, incompetent and intrusive government, and generally less developed domestic conditions.

Xi’s fears are well founded, as a global reconsideration of China is long overdue. Legitimate criticisms and doubts about China’s governance and growth model were long suppressed by Chinese pressure and the willingness of many to buy into the Communist Party’s public line. Public shaming of foreign corporations, global influence operations, and “elite capture” -- all are policies Beijing has deployed to maintain China’s public image.

That carefully tended image is now cracked. Those concerned with global health issues may wonder why it is that China is wracked regularly by viral epidemics in addition to coronavirus, such as SARS, African Swine Fever, and avian flu (another outbreak is happening right now). Others may begin to look more carefully at China’s environmental devastation and the hundreds of thousands of premature deaths each year from air and water pollution."

"...More broadly, the pandemic of 2020 has brought doubts about globalization into the mainstream. Decades of open borders, unceasing intercontinental travel, study abroad, just-in-time inventory systems, and the like have created unexpected vulnerabilities in populations and economies thanks to unfettered openness. To worry about such weaknesses is not to adopt a Luddite reactionary stance, but to try and salvage the bases of the post-World War II global economic architecture."

"unexpected vulnerabilties"

...bahahahahahaha... that's one way to describe flat out dismissal and denial I guess ..decades of it...

"....Chinese laboratories identified a mystery virus as a highly infectious new pathogen by late December last year, but they were ordered to stop tests, destroy samples and suppress the news, a Chinese media outlet has revealed.

A regional health official in Wuhan, centre of the outbreak, demanded the destruction of the lab samples that established the cause of unexplained viral pneumonia on January 1. China did not acknowledge there was human-to-human transmission until more than three weeks later.

The detailed revelations by Caixin Global, a respected independent publication, provide the clearest evidence yet of the scale of the cover-up in the crucial early weeks when the opportunity was lost to control the outbreak.

And the Chinese government’s attempt to silence doctors warning others about the disease:

As word of a mysterious virus mounted, Li Wenliang shared suspicions in a private chat with his fellow medical school graduates.

The doctor said that seven people seemed to have contracted SARS — the respiratory illness that spread from China to more than two dozen countries and left hundreds dead in the early 2000s. One patient was quarantined at his hospital in Wuhan, China, Li said. He urged people to be careful.

Li and seven other doctors were quickly summoned by Chinese authorities for propagating “rumors” about SARS-like cases in the area — but their warnings were prescient. Soon, health officials worldwide would be scrambling to combat a novel virus with a striking genetic resemblance to SARS."

Oh yeh, but it's all good over at the WHO...

It seems the WHO Wu flu may be an appropriate name...

.... just going with naming conventions ans stuff...

You have non existent health care systems in most countries and pre condition diseases that we don't have in the developed world, that combined with this virus, are apparently lethal. Add to this the fact that the rest of the world is pre occupied with their own problems there will be no international response unfortunately like there normally is for your ebola type incidents.

I came through customs sunday morning, it was s bloody joke. no different to 2 months ago, ...a lot has happened in that 2 months!

tbh the coronavirus health department lady, hanging in the shadows (still just waiting for volunteers) seem to have a bit more plastic on, but besides that, nothing

no temp checks, no serious questions, nothing. I could have come from anywhere via dps. even dps had temp checks for the second half of my trip, even in domestic!

for a country that has obsessively protected its borders from infection for decades, I honestly do not understand what is going on

desperate for bucks? maybe, you'd think bali would be more desperate. they are! that's probably why they are looking after their little money tree

we are either too lazy, stupid, apathetic....

or our government are so blinded by ideology they cannot see the forest for the trees

yes there will be economic pain, but it seems like the virus, most countries are now realising going faster harder earlier is key to addressing the issues long term

its beyond belief, hence my "scaremongering"
