Defies logic that you've been able to fly in from the country where the source of most infections is.

And then when you arrive you just walk through to the taxi with no checks.

More from our Shanghai correspondent received this am. Aussie expat 20+ years in the joint.

"Mate – I’ve just seen the front page – web page of the AFR.

Aside from David Rowe being very good today, it is a state of panic, not alarm …panic !

It’s ok – we will get through it all.

Everyone is in the same boat and the government and reserve bank are working together.

You have the best health system and brains in the world on an island (with borders already closed) with a small population and the health guys have been preparing, learning etc. since early Jan.

Australia is in a good position – really !

China economic activity is back to 80% retail ..ok, in the bigger cities where it starts 1st but they are we on the way….and who benefits from that most…..Australia.

Bill Ackman of Pershing is talking about US Inc where it is a different picture, more complicated and messy with a dysfunctional leadership and naturally alarmist media.

Hang in there."

It just seems to me this demonstrates how fragile we are, and so many people are going to be fucked...and management of it, the answer seems to be to adopt more socialistic principles

I am one of the very few people on the net to learn...not an expert at everything

And it actually makes me physically ill to enter a discussion about naming it chinavius or whatever...but honestly how could it possibly do any good

Hoarding and profiteering is abhorrent, but a manifestation of human nature. Definitely not attributable to the ‘vibrant’ elements of our society Blowin. There’s plenty of examples from WW2 of the same behaviours in Australia (and worse in Britain) when the government announced rationing in mid ‘42. Guessing the ‘vibrancy’ was a little lower in those days?
BL: it’s shit behaviour, but it certainly isn’t one that is confined to, or absent from, any specific ethnicity or cultural group.

There’s organised gangs turning up to regional towns up in hired buses and towing caged box trailers with the express purpose of cleaning the shelves in order to onsell products at a profit.

The ability of these small town grocers to resupply is not the same as their big smoke brethren.

This is real. It’s happening and no amount of “ aww , shucks ....not the nice vibrants “ will alter the cold hard reality.

It’s a fucked up situation which is making a stressful and uncertain time for everyone exponentially worse.

My sister works at a white goods store on the Sunshine Coast and last week they completely sold out of freezers, one lady came in and bought 4.
Apparently people are using them to stockpile meat.
Also selling lots of bread makers.

Heard there was van load of people from the coast rock up to the Kyogle supermarket a few days ago, pretty sure they were regular people stocking up on things that were sold out in other towns.

Went to the chemist to get a script filled at Pacific Fair shopping centre yesterday afternoon. A Chinese lady came in after visiting the doctors surgery next door and wanted to get 28 of those asthma inhaler’s. The counter assistant said there was a limit of one per customer.

This lady started raising her voice demanding she be supplied the inhalers, and to call the doctor who gave her the script. People gathered around, some calling her rude which only set her off more. She started screaming in the pharmacist’s face and security was called as well as her doctor.

The senior pharmacist looked up her records and saw she had been to other pharmacy’s previously demanding to bulk buy ventilators.
She started crying and called someone speaking in Chinese but using the word ‘security’ in English.

Some bloke ended up telling her to get a plane ticket and fuck off home, not cool maybe, but understandable given the circumstances.

I’m with blowin on this one. I’ve got no doubt this sort of behaviour is widespread and leading to shortages of essential medication and supplies.

Anyone caught doing this should be deported or jailed given the dire circumstances we are now living in?

*Recapping Coronavirus clearing Atmosphere & Waterways

tbb recently asked of Corona Animal invasions...Due to Crow Wars in home town.
Internet was blank...slowly but surely we now have a menagerie to fill an Ark.
In that time Animal shelters are closing & Zoos are web casting shows!
Debate surrounds Dog Corona Outbreak in Oz / RSPCA: Avoid other dogs-(1.5m)

Animal invasions or mass killings are a shock so no need for a Horror Show...
Should crew wish a link...just say...it's hardly the end of the world or is it!

2020 Coronavirus Animal Migration is exclusive to #1 swellnet
Feel free to share it around...better if you do!

*Animal species that benefit (Short term Only)

Wild Exotic Animals- China banned Wildlife Wet Markets (The Virus Source)
Wild Boar in Italian Towns
Deer herds in Japanese Train Stations & Streets
Bears have trapped Russians in Towns
Horses linger in Italian Streets
Sheep flock to graze in Italian Streets
Dogs (Wild) Egypt are trapping then vaccinating & taming > housing wild dogs
Fish are swimming into clearer waters free of Boating Turbulence.
Dolphins are attracted to clearer fish pockets & trapping their prey!

Birds (Various!) Birdsong & Singing is now the sweetest sound in every city.
Swans have plenty of time to swan about without peak rush hour!
Pigeons in Europe are fed by selfie Stars + US Electoral Stool Pigeons
Seagulls are pampered & fed by China State...
Crows are moving into towns (some by the 1000)
Bush Turkeys are digging around in Sydneysider's back yards

"An article about the benefit of going hard early during a pandemic with limited evidence.

I have to admit , my thinking has come around 180 degrees on that."

Totally, that was both a gut feeling, as well as my read once I got seeing some of the early Wuhan footage smuggled out via VPNs, before they shut the lid on it.

Aus response, they did well early shutting China flights, and wore the heat, but I think they've stuffed it now, they haven't clamped down as hard when they could have and are caught arguing semiotics of distance or numbers per indoor event/area. Just shut it down, schools and unis too. The economy will probably take more of a whack now with months of pain, rather than an early, brutal shutdown but people being confident the infection was not where they are. And the healthcare system would be much better able to respond if flights and ingress were halted early. Maybe Tassie might be able to control it, coming from such a low number, hope they trace well. Mainland east - and West - is fucked.

Well that's just it...all the affordable product lines are exhausted...
30% of actual product is exhausted & not being replaced.
Trolley 'load' now costs 30% more than what families budget.
It's interesting as that figure now mirrors pet/school abandonment..

Each day more kids are filling our Complex Pool.(Not at school)
Each Home has different Online speed to Teacher...Home schooling is No Option.
Class of 2020 looks set to be kept back...Wow! The setback for a Nation!
Imagine the impact of National state school kids labelled as failures because of poor parents!
World will need to have an urgent Summit on waving thru a lost year or Repeat!
As it stands rich kids are buying a whole extra grade above state schools!
That sort of inequality breaks friendships only 25% of rich kids will go to schoolies!
PM stopped State schools + extra $ > private on-line links + extra freedom to adapt.

Pause! PM regards these as our essential Services.
Rather than a concerted effort to maintain the frontline it is collapsing by the hour.
So frontline is at best a 70% motley crew and is fading fast..
Should frontline products fall beneath half...then disorder becomes normality.
National Guard will step in! All here can see that decline is hastening...

tbb expects 50% frontline stock next time round...(Not normal & alarming)
Someone or Something must legislate a base (Frontline *Normal 50% capacity)
Oz goes below 50% normal we lose control & security of health supply
To be blunt! We may have a cure but no service to safely supply (critical care)

"Four people aboard a cruise ship that berthed in Sydney on Thursday morning have tested positive for coronavirus, and other passengers who may have been exposed have disembarked."

"Mr Hazzard said it was possible other passengers who disembarked in Sydney unknowingly contracted coronavirus.

"Our big concern, the very big concern, is that those people came off the cruise with no knowledge of COVID actually being on their ship," he said.

"If they think that it's not necessary to do the 14 days, and if they think that it's okay to be wandering around, the clear message from me ... is, no, it's not.

"It is actually serious because if we had 2700 passengers on that ship we want to know that every single one of them is in quarantine.”"

I must admit I'm scratching my head trying to work out how this fits in with the lockdown response.

No mate . No generation fucked up .

We were like a bunch of lambs to the slaughter. As much as I take the piss out of individuals for their financial predicament, I certainly don’t think that the fault is all their own. Or even mostly their fault . Raised to trust in government, institutions and the system from birth. 90 percent of everyone we ever looked towards telling us to have faith in power.

All the while we have been assiduously corralled into modern semi-slavery.

Double income . Child minding. 30 year mortgages.

Cheap debt baiting the hook.

Now the people are trapped and compliant. Goaded and psychologically prompted at every turn. Lifetimes of servitude sold under the duress of FEAR ( of missing out ).

And to ice the cake of FEAR we need a little GREED , encouraged and massaged until it’s sickly sweet taste barely registers any more.

Humanity led willingly into a debt trap slaughterhouse.

People may scoff when I suggest that a transnational coterie is at work consciously influencing human trajectory but I don’t GAF . That’s what’s going on. People like to believe that human societal evolution is an unencumbered stumbling in the dark , I think otherwise. People don’t believe that humanity is capable of the intricate machinations and the macro scale determinations required to achieve this type of planned and visionary outcome .

Bullshit.

I’ve watched entire mini- cities spring forth from barren desert sands , built entirely from a single fundamental thought originating from the other side of the planet , which was then acted upon and coordinated by tens of thousands of unique individuals all working in unison whilst sight unseen from each other at thousands of different locations across the world.

Same basic technique employed to financialise every aspect of human existence : Conceive, design , create.

Would be the smart thing to reduce all internal travelling around states now , help stop it spreading from the big population centres to regional areas but they wont. So very likely we will all be in full lockdown by Easter holidays. Too many people just not getting it when it comes to self isolation, heaps kids taken out of schools already by parents who then take them around to their friends houses or the beach or the shops etc so effectively fucking the whole point of self isolation. They will have to enforce a lockdown situation just to try and get a handle on it by easter (too late again) . Then schools will close permantly and rules galore will be worked out , then we will be where Italy, Spain, France, California etc etc are now and that,s when the squealing will really start.

So, arrive into Australia from overseas. No checks just fill out form. Home to self isolate.

Red Cross is contracted by Queensland Health to welfare check self isolators.

If self isolators aren't complying the Red Cross "won't dob" it's not their job.

Police will fine you $13000 for not self isolating but Queensland police won't check for compliance unless requested by Queensland Health.

Queensland Health don't know because Red Cross don't tell.

This is starting to feel like a slow train wreck gathering speed

Yeah nah you want to see a train wreck, check out Hollands approach.

Looks like they are basically going to let it move through the community and just protect older people etc with the hope it will build up herd immunity. (UK considered it but decided not to go ahead and play it safe)

That's pretty crazy, dare i say down right reckless, it's not even a sure thing that we build up resistance to the virus.

Going to be interesting to see how they go, i guess high risk high reward, but could also end up a complete mess.

BTW. Luckily here in Vicco School holidays start next weekend, going to be interesting to see if our stats change compared to other states.
