Send milk overseas to be processed. Import the milk back to Australia. Only out of date milk is available and tastes a bit off. Can't afford to go to the pub anymore because milk is expensive and have no money left over for beer

I run a very small charity, and am involved in supporting families from a bunch of countries...

Sri Lanka was in complete lockdown for about ten days, where I support some people. No going out for food or anything...a food truck came around delivering essentials once a day...but if you didn't have money to pay...they gave you nothing, moved on to the next house

In Kenya, a family didn't pay rent...two days later they came home and all the doors were padlocked...all possessions still inside...they get access when they pay rent

Just perspective I guess

Oz Kidz Corner (Boomer childhood disease catches on...)
We boomer brats watched our pet litters get smashed & drowned in hessian sacks.
We kidz were either in...or running from 100 different gangs...
Most us were kicked & whacked while we watched Mum get bashed.
Most of our sisters were raped before they left home (Very early for that matter)
Myself & brother believe our whole school of kidz were molested by priests & nuns.

In the last 20 years Victorian Kid abuse has doubled
Oz Child Abuse claims rise 25% each year
58% of Oz Kids are sexually abused by age 10
45% report 'unwanted Sex'.
79% of Qld sexual assault victims are under 18 years old
Over half of all Qld rape cases are of under aged children
https://bravehearts.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/WIP_Facts-and-stat...

Right now (Corona)Oz has the highest increase (up 75%) for Abuse help .
85% of all child abuse is by Family

Because of Oz child violence threat, Oz Education run checks for Home Schooling.
Inspections & Checks take a month for each carer-parent-teacher + home class.
Checks on Court orders (re: above) & if rape dungeons & dog bowls are clean.
No it's not funny...tbb has raised this with younger several women.
Before tbb engaged further, all independently jumped to say home was a prison.

Right now Oz Education is bypassing Background Checks to race Home Schooling.

Yep! Oz Kidz are doing just fine & Oz loves them to bits.
Sure! PM could stop or reassess this diabolical Lambs led to slaughter plan...
Note! All kids Dental, Sex Health, Teen Pregnancy,Anorexia is banned by [NO]
Religious Right Leaders say it's non Essential...as they get found out they do!
All Govt's have signed off on Oz Child Rape Dungeon Schooling...(It'll be fine!)

Don't be alarmed as my Mum & all seniors are being upgraded into Cyborgs.
65 % of Elderly use currency, only now Banks, Council, Govt,Supermarkets ban it!

From The Atlantic
"The death rattle of a meme is heard when some legit news outlet—The New York Times, NPR—takes notice and spies in the meme a cultural signifier, perhaps even a Larger Metaphor. Deep thinkers hover like vultures. The world surrounds the meme, engulfs it, suffocates it, drains it, ingests it. By the end of the week, Elizabeth Warren is using it as the subject line of an email fundraiser, next to a winking emoji. The shark, jumped, recedes ever deeper into the distance. Rocca’s segment airs. The meme is finished.
The particulars of the downward spiral change from meme to meme, of course. The end came for “OK Boomer” mid-month, when it was reported that Fox was trying to trademark the phrase for the title of a TV show.
TV—as in cable and broadcast? Fox? With this news, “OK Boomer” was immediately rendered as exciting and cutting-edge as the Macarena. You might as well freeze it in amber. Google Trends charted the ascent and the quick decline"

Got to love JJF he is not just a surfer but a true water man, surfing, sailing, fishing and im sure more.

And at the other end of things you have Medina and his shark paranoia that probably wouldn't touch the ocean or beach if it wasn't for a surf

AndyM's picture
AndyM Sunday, 12 Apr 2020 at 9:41am

That's brilliant.

You can keep the dancing bears of the Wozzle, I reckon if there was a proper in-depth series of JJF sailing around the world it'd view through the roof.

Just follow him on a circumnavigation or even a lap of the South Pacific, keeping it totally real, nothing fabricated, plenty of maps but nothing too specific.

Maybe a semi-tech series, getting right into sailing, fishing, surfing, free-diving.
So much scope, it'd be riveting.

Bring in a pro-specialist every once in a while to do a leg with the boat or explore a destination.

Production values wouldn't be as high as the clip above but surely it'd stand tall.

I just think the comparison in this case is totally relevant, to me JJF represents the best of the pro surfing at the moment and keeps me interested, stoked to see a young competitive surfer that is also a true waterman and humble too, even if he gave up competition you just know he would still live and breath the ocean.

While Medina to me represents the opposite and almost a dark side of modern surfing, where surfing seems purely a sport and if he gave up competitive surfing you wouldn't be surprised if he just stopped surfing and become a high level soccer player or something.

Good Video Indo, Sailing is a buzz that's for sure. In the mid 70's after surfing all morning on the central coast, my cousin and I would see an afternoon storm brewing and yell Hobies!...We would race down to the jetty on the lake and hire two hobie cats before the storm hit much to the hire guys annoyance who was about to close up. We had some radical times on that lake racing each other and those things fly with a stiff breeze. Some brutal stacks too...So much fun.

Seeing JJF take those drops at Bells, outer bowl about 10-12ft or maybe bigger, it wasn't easy conditions by any means, on the semis in last year's comp was incredible to see with my own eyes. He was very far out to sea, appeared to get swatted on the takeoff by maybe head-and-a-half worth of whitewater, just shrugged it off and then would go well above the horizon level in the bottom turn/carving reo. On a 6'2 as well? That was mind blowing, another league entirely.

Don’t kid yourself about Medina. He’d love surfing more than most of us put together.

Can’t even comprehend the dedication , commitment and time in the water required to attain that level of ability. Sunshine , rain , onshore .....whatever . The bastard would be out there.

Just as I left the beach this morning I cast a glance back to the lineup. Sure it was sunny and warm and beautiful, but the surf was pretty average and left out there on his own was a fella you’d know of , who made his name from surfing for a living for a good couple of decades, still chasing down shitty , shifty peaks despite no cameras , no witnesses, no money and no recognition.

Fucker just loves it.

Medina would be no different. Surfer through and through.

Don’t think they don’t go to sleep dreaming of pulling in.

20,000 Overstay Slave Nurses can't leave or go to the beach if they tried.
Lib Govt had them clocked on before they were born...No say in the matter.

The unions reminded Libs to pretend to cough up a slightly half decent wage, don't shoot them & then make them citizens after battling on the frontline.

Labor said there are another 1,000 Nurses picking fruit...(Not saying Muslims?)
Could just as easily be Asians in current climate...more likely Aussie Nurses.

Truth is it's a scam...Govt's lock out 33% of Oz Nurses & slot in cheaper [VISAS]
Reports say it's worse...only 15% Oz graduates get a full time job.
This results in less Aussies seeing Health as a viable profession > More [VISAS]
Unions say the Indians are less likely to rock the boat & expose Govt rorting.

All those government bonds need to put to use somehow Blowin

The way out of the increase in government debt according to the Treasurer is by "growing the economy" not raising taxes or the GST. That sounds like polly speak for growing the population.

Also the Liberal Party is “the party of lower tax” and claimed its track record showed it could restrain government spending. “We are going to have to climb that mountain again.” Just a heads up of what is about to come. More spending cuts and privatisation only this time in hyper drive.

So all those who are talking about this sudden lurch towards socialism have no fear the Liberal spirit is alive and kicking and will not be denied, they couldn't have dreamed up a better opportunity than this to implement what they have always wanted.

At the same time though the deputy leader says we'll need tax reform and possibly an increase in GST ! Being Michael McCormack though that could change tomorrow depending on which auto cue he is reading.

Why are wealthy nations predominant in being addled by this disease ? The rankings of affected countries are also a very good ranking of economic clout.

Why is Somalia not overwhelmed ? Sudan ? Bangladesh ? India should really have hundreds of thousands of cases.....why not ?

Well I've said it elsewhere and copped a lot of flak

Now a top economist says it. From todays Age:

'...one of the nation's pre-eminent experts in the tax and welfare system warns it will be young Australians who bear the cost of repaying that $320 billion in support.

Professor Robert Breunig, who heads the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at the ANU, said it was inevitable younger Australians would bear most of the cost of stimulus and support packages while at the same time enduring a drop in their future incomes.

"Our heavy reliance on direct taxation, activities by corporations or individuals, means that the tax burden to repay the debt will fall very heavily on the future incomes of young people, which will now be lower as a consequence of the pandemic," he said.'

So the question arises, as I've posed over the past week on other forums since shutdown: young people, do you actually want this? Do you want to suffer a lifetime of economic side effects in order to have this lockdown and save mostly older people?

"Economic side affects" sounds like no big deal, but in fact its lower wages, less govt services like healthcare and education, higher taxes, overall less work around for the self employed because there's less money around to spend, higher costs of basic necessities etc.

I don't think its fair.

And by the way, I'm not a young person.

Blowin's picture

Blowin Tuesday, 14 Apr 2020 at 7:43am

What we are seeing is the potential creative destruction of our current economic paradigm. Whether the future Australians will benefit or not is impossible to predict.

Perhaps the crisis will generate the impetus to redirect Australia towards a high productivity / high margin / high skilled economy which plays to its strength as a world class provider of high quality agricultural and manufactured goods.

The debt is not insignificant but there are also other windows of opportunity being opened as a result of Australia’s viral-induced rethink of our future.

This virus might have saved the economy for future generations.

Modern Monetary Theory suggests that the national budget isn't like a household budget in that we don't actually have to pay back the debt.

The idea is that the limit on government spending isn't the budget, it's inflation.

Some pretty respected minds are saying that the whole concept of the government using tax dollars to pay for things is bullshit.

Actually it is okay that old people die of natural causes.

It’s the sub 60 generation who have lost the plot, it’s like they’ve just discovered their mortality

My 81 yo old father who has survived a heart attack, a stroke and cancer, thinks the lockdown is taking away his life, not the other way around. He thinks we’ve blown it trying to milk a few more years for the old by sitting inside our homes. As they say on the BCF ad, that ain’t livin’

Boomers have spent a long time coming to terms that they will die of natural causes one day, and this virus could have taken 5% of them at worst

Less percentage of the population being able to travel internationally means less cases initially imported.

But i think lack of testing would be the main factor, also many people wouldn't even be able to afford to go to a hospital or doctor, even deaths to the virus could easily just be not reported or put down to something else.

Also within countries lower percentage of population generally travel by plane or long distances, it's not like here where on easter we might go on holidays or go down the coast etc people are generally stuck in there community.

I dont know what experts are saying but i can personally see in the long run these countries getting hit hardest especially with such close living, larger families etc.

EDIT: BTW. just looking at Australia compared to India we started to reduce numbers about 1st April, while India only started to see a real increase from 1st April, seems they are 2 weeks behind us, two weeks time is going to a nightmare.

Assuming perfect reporting of cases and deaths, I'd hazard a guess that people are living to ripe old age in wealthy nations, and it's older people that die from Covid-19 (in Sweden, only 7 out of around 900 are under 50yo).

"Why are wealthy nations predominant in being addled by this disease ? The rankings of affected countries are also a very good ranking of economic clout."

I'd say for some of the reasons above, I wouldn't under estimate lack of diagnoses in poorer countries. Jakarta funerals went up 40% on the month before last month, but still not much diagnosing going on

but mostly I'd say it's because it's a globalisation disease, a sickness born from ill health. all the places getting smashed are the main global hubs. its a very urban loving disease, but its no coincidence italy has major chinese/italian designer business connections and 3 direct wuhan flights a week, ....or had...

plus they had a hug a chinaman campaign ....all kinds of dumb there...

new york, london, europe hubs, asian gateways, asian getaways, aussie uni's, chinese factories, boomer cruise ship factories...

it's a disease of wealth, the wealthy, opulance, the jetsetters, and an overly reliant on transport model of globalisation, a fifo work mentality across undustries, a lack of accounting of externalities....

and a $350 return flight to bali

a price that makes an international getaway cheaper than a weekend trip up the coast, there's no logic in that..

shit just got way out of wack

we knew it, the world knew it, time for a breather
