He's not a bigger man than me..... You can speak for yourself, blowin..... Drawing a picture to gain "hits" on your website doesn't make you a man..... Ripping off innocent people doesn't make you a "man".... Charly's French cartoons were done in style, poignant, with meaning... Pickerings stuff was just crass crap.... A pure stunt from a gutter rat.....

And he isn't standing up for "me"........ He's a fuckwit..... A former Liberal party stooge..... A con artist... And you're his latest victim ;)

I'm not a victim Sheepy. Pickering and myself are co investors. Sure, I've borrowed four hundred grand to put towards the project and he's yet to stump up any cash.....but he reckons he's good for it.

So you reckon that the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists were targeted because their drawings were done with style and class ?

You can continue to dance and conflate the two issues if you like Sheepy, but the fact is, the man has drawn a line in the sand and you haven't.

Actually Sheepy, best we confer with the Swellnet team and ask if they are even comfortable with this line of discussion on their otherwise innocuous website.

Simba, sorry mate. I'm being facetious. There's no project. I was pretending that I'd invested in one of this fellas scam investments. Sheepdog was saying that this Pickering fella had taken some investors for a ride and that I was another of his victims for granting him any credibility by saying that his stance against Islamic extremists was laudable. Two different issues that Sheepy would like to align to confuse the issue.

How was the defence minister for Australia that was knighted today, in an interview with media he said "Abbott rang me awhile back saying to me I will be knighted this year and I was BLOWIN away"

I found that statement quite funny coming from the defence minister.

Hilarious. Blowin.. So if a child molester draws a cartoon of Muhammad, then promotes it on his website, all is forgiven... "He's a bigger man than you and me"...... Nah, mate.... You see, Charlie Hebdo has been fighting the good fight re' freedom of the press for years.... respect....... All Pickering did was jump on the bandwagon to promote his web page, and to cash in.....

"Sheepdog was saying that this Pickering fella had taken some investors for a ride ".............. Not me "saying it" mate........... It was the supreme court's findings.... I'm just relaying what they said...

http://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/sinodisp/au/cases/qld/QCA/2006/53.html...

Now, if he was to pass on the proceeds of his site to his victims, people like you and me, I might consider that a "manly" act....

"Conflate" - Mate, I was purely talking about Pickerings right wing mud throwing at 3.04pm yesterday... I didn't bring in the "muslim" angle... Udo brought it in and you ran with it which muddied the waters on the original discussion, which was ; "what a festering hypocritical turd Pickering is"......

As far as "freedom" goes, yeah draw what you want.... Knock your self out.....But you gotta remember that some people may take offence..... They are free to take offence.... If I was lucky enough to be able to draw well or have some form of artistic talent, I don't think I'd go down the angle of insulting peoples beliefs.... I wouldn't draw Muhammad... But I also wouldn't immerse Jesus in urine, which was done in the late 80s and caused quite a stir... Still causing a stir today..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piss_Christ

I think dialogue and debate is the go..... But if people want to shit stir, good luck.... I back their right.... But one cartoon aint gonna sway me on a thieving cunt....
Hope you get your money back......... ;p

I try not to let the present government annoy me because australians voted for a conservative government so you have to expect conservative policy.

However when abbott introduced the knighthood thing I thought what the fuck is that about? And how far back can this idiot take us??

I tried to accept and ignore, then we get prince phillip knighted, what the fuck? He is not Australian and he's already part of the scurge that is the royal family. Surely there is someone more deserving, someone who's charity work is not a hobby to fill time in a privileged life.

Clearly I'm no monarchist, but I also am not a republicanist either, I think the whole republican thing is purely symbolic, and the last thing we need is another 10 billion dollar bill for another unnecessary symbolic luxury where the difference will equate to changing the printing on government letterheads. But for Australia to award a knighthood to punce phillip defies logic, its just a pathetic bum lucking act that undervalues the good work other people are doing.

Talk about preserving the old boys club.

Reckon Murdoch is pissed off with Tony Rabbit cos he didn't get a gong, of course he is a Yank but that didn't stop Tones given an old Pommy Fart one. Early call i know but next year's gongs will be going to George Pell & Uncle Rup, just a guess.

If you truly believe Turnbull will get the gig then you know very little about the Neocons. All of Abbott's conservative critics in the media count for zero, its his nervous back benchers thinking of their lifetime parliamentary pensions after 3 terms that matter most and they aren't going to turn on Abbott. Not now not before the next election. All this talk of Abbott being axed is just fizz.

This will all be forgotten in a few weeks . It's not as if it's cost the country billions or lured people to their drowning deaths by the thousands . Or put the country in 350 billion debt with an interest bill of 1.5 billion a month.

Eventually the real issue of fixing the economic disaster left by the Liars party will be front and centre.
Are people going to trust Bill and his cronies to fix the mess they created ?
I don't think so .

@grocer, I agree this will all be forgotten in a few weeks cos the economy will be front and centre and how this mob are trying to rip the guts out of health and education and how the senate will be blocking the more deconan policy moves. Interest will also play out as to how Morrison will be ripping safety nets out from punters.

But that's in a few weeks .... Abbott and Co have the Qld election fall out to deal with from this Saturday night and on Monday amazingly Abbott gives his first National Press Club speech as PM. No rest for this most conservative politician. Its not going to be a happy few weeks for the poor bastard before parliament resumes and that signals even more frustration.

We know Tones is about as useful as a boundary rider with a sore arse ! More important the federal / state political relationship is a total mess, it needs urgent attention. I'm a lifelong Labor member & very fucking proud, but we need something better, something which provides better safeguards for all citizens particularly those who are vulnerable & not $ wealthy.

One of the most wealthy & stable democracy's in the western world has a very pure democracy - Switzerland. It is the world's only true democracy because no legislation can be enacted by its parliaments without voters having the opportunity to call a referendum to decide whether it becomes law......It's called TRUE democracy, can you spot the difference. I'm not talking simply house / land ownership issues. A political systems that gives all citizens protection ! A system whereby Govt work in unison & in the interest of its people. Abbott is a sideshow / distraction, what we need in Aust is a better democracy & like minded people who can make that happen.

Agree on the lobbyist issue. Picked up Robert Reich, Super capitalism from the library yesterday, heavy reading Floyd !

ALP branch meetings are pretty small attendance typically 15-30 people in metro Adelaide & that's weather dependant. I live 800km west of Adel so nigh on impossible to attend but assume most other regions are similar in number. A far cry from those halcyon days of the 1970's when the ALP boasted 700,000 membership ! Political parties are coy about membership numbers but they are very small in comparison. Yep change has to start from a grass roots level & talking with like minded people is a good start. Cheers Johno

@Johno…it may be interesting to note your point 'no legislation can be enacted by its parliaments without voters having the opportunity to call a referendum to decide whether it becomes law'. You know that nothing would get passed here in Aus. It seems to take 75% majority to get a referendum thru in the Aus democracy. 'Like minded people' - I assume you mean that people need to this the same ??

Yep & all states need to agree to any modification of the constitution. Not easy when you consider on 2 occasion there were plebiscite at 1972 & 1987 federal elections to include the benign contribution of 'local govt' into our constitution & both times defeated by paranoid state premiers. So yep not easy BUT the party system is too self serving, I believe we need a better democracy.

Not sure what your last question is implying

Looks very nasty in Queensland. The electorate has savaged Newman and the conservative party's agenda of ripping services out of the community in search of that holly grail; a balanced budget.

What the conservatives just don't get is the electorate likes its services and expects its governments to raise the taxes to pay for them. Its about taxes stupid ... carbon, mining, multinational avoidance etc

Going to be a blood bath in LNP ranks in the coming weeks for students of politics.

The thing about Gillard is she had to fight white anting in her own party (KRudd) and an effective opposition (Abbott) so her task of governing, as she did, for a full term with the reform agenda she put in place is amazing when compared to Abbott and Co who just go around kicking themselves in the balls!

This rock dweller has some thing to say.

Brutus summed it up well, modern politics is about who is the least shit, and that is a problem, we need someone inspiring, bit unfortunatly politicians are too concerned with the 24 hour news social media stuff which means they have to lie constantly rather than a lie here and there as it was in the past.

Queenslanders voted for who is least shit, between some tough times selling all their asserts, or some tough times keeping some assets, plus they punished Abbott, but brandis wonr concede a bit because its all about appearances.

I'm enjoying watching the abbott train wreck as much as anyone, but we cannot afford to watch another 18 months of this stuff. One party has to get their shit together, and labor can't count on liberals being more shit. They need an agenda.

Conservatives have an agenda, same as always, to conserve power. Modem left don't have a clear agenda or a good leader.

Whether its soon or in 18 months, looks like abbotts gone. Unless turnball gets a gig its gonna be another contest of whose less shit. Let's hope labor's got someone less shit than shorten.

I look at it different, the current crop of federal LMP politicians seem to make the assumption the general population shares there passion for LNP ideology and that we the general public are politically & economically savvy enough to understand what is $%^ is going on. Think CEO mentality which in the world of politicking is death....bye Campbell Newman.
The reality is most of us are as thick as 2 short planks politically and it's a rare bird that makes any effort to understand economics or politics in a worthwhile way. As a nation we seem insecure and rattled easily and find change threatening. Lets face it, we've got a Union Jack in the corner of our national flag. Also the media could be more constructive here, have interviews with learned people like Prof Dean Jaensch (political scientist ) who is a teacher. Our pollies need to become teachers ! Also a bit of Keatingesque passion is needed, pollies of that ilk will always revel because they are natural teachers / salesmen. IMO it's a cop out to partway blame social media for current LNP woes (electronic graffiti is rubbish) This is the 21st century I expect our pollies to be tech & communication savvy.
