As I've mentioned before, it's called Manifest Destiny, a peculiar, self indulgent and ultimately destructive existence - far right ideology and Manifest Destiny go hand in hand.

Oh fuck! who brought god up? Now this thread has gone seriously downhill.
I dont know how serious Sheepdog is but I would also like to encourage Barley and Tony Barber to keep contributing because this thread is full of one eyed Labradors, which is fine considering the topic, but the one eyed-ness does my head in. Barber and co. are right about one thing, it was the uselessness of Labor that put Abbott in the office. Six years of uselessness, I may have been young and impressionable but I do not remember Labor being anywhere near as useless through the Hawke/Keating years even with contention for the leadership.
Like Sheepdog, I also don't agree with much that Barber and co. say, but it is good to have someone with the balls to contribute and challenge. Someone from the right who can at least string a sentence together, credible or not, because the contributors from the right before have not been very articulate/literate. Where are all these well educated private school boys who support the coalition? Is the surfing community that left wing? There must be some people out there who support Abbott, because someone voted him in. But I have never personally met anyone willing to admit it.
Yeah Barley the conspiracy theories wear a little thin, but it is hard to deny that the right supports the coal and oil industries and has for a long time, that is what they do, isn't that why they got rid of Turnball? sure seemed so.
And yeh olddog is right, the Juliar thing is a little old, especially with the amount of lies Abbott has blundered his way through, but all that aside keep up the defense, otherwise it becomes very mundane.
Yeah, sypkan... I meant it..... 2 things I do agree with old game show host are; Gillard was useless... And coal is ok for now......
And I think we are all in agreement when it come to "oppositions don't win elections, Governments lose them".... How else could a nutter like Abbott with a preferred PM rating so low so low win an election? Labor lost it.... The coalition got it by default..... Now we're stuck with a choice between Abbott or Shorten..... Salad days :/
@sypkan I am an educated private school boy, although I didn't complete school (got kcked out) and did vote for Abbsy. How could you not?-seriously?.
I was having a chat with someone the other day and when I said I voted for Yabbott fuckn hell did a bomb go off!! He's a mate of mine but he lost his shit for about 10mins! I thought he was goin to smash something(i.e me!) My point is it is not just one side that can appear to be nutjobs! but politics is like that.
I find it soo fucking annoying when crew bash on about coal and the environment.Hypocrisy at its finest. The only way to stop it is to not use it and no-ones gunna do that!
Well that's right, Barley..... Often the most hardcore "save the warming planet dudes" are the first to jump on a petrol powered jet, get on a diesel powered boat, prance around some island chain where all supplies have also been brought in via petrol, wear their made in a chinese factory stuff, with a petrochemical surfboard, leve their mess behind, plus a huge carbon footprint..... Bizarro world....
You're ok, barley.... Good on ya for supporting a side..... I can't support either..... I feel robbed.....
Ouch, Floyd...... Ouch ;) Mate... If agreeing TWICE means we have to get a room, then agreeing with you probably 50 times means we must share a cell... It's ok.... You can be the daddy and I'll be the mummy..... Now come over here daddy and s*ck mummy's c*ck...... :p
ps haven't got a clue about cars, computers, solar panels, cooking, board design, ariels, road building, physics, China, volcanos, jazz, the "dark web", American humour, botox, waxing, plumbing, electrics, exchange rates, basketball, tennis, rap music, Russian orthodox Christianity, motor bikes, Kim Kardashian, or whats the big deal about how you hang a toilet roll...
What I do know? Tony Abbott is the worse thing to ever happen to Australia.... But it is partly Labor's fault......
Cheers, sweetheart... ;)

PUP is the way to go, Such a role model for all australians, clive could do a 30 min workout class while he tells us about the flaws and prejudices of all other races/nations. He could show us his economic policies using his running of his coolum resort and could also do a side show bob sales pitch as a car sales man. I been to Canberra, there is no real difference between any of the politicians- maybe they all initially had grand ideas of being the people representatives, but the system, the party machine has the last say where it becomes a self serving egocentric facade that has past its used by date. dont like to be critical of anyone as we all have our shortcomings, but gee whiz, the political system is a wannabe bunch, big noting themselves whilst promoting elitism and pandering to big business for short term profits whilst sacrificing creating social justice, harmony and sustainable environmental and social management and development. Corruption is the game, and self serving is it's name.
Good onya Barley, I like your honesty, funny how passionate people are about Abbott (your mate losing his shit) Bcos it wasnt just you that wanted him. But I think a lot of people voted for him because they saw no alternative, but there are many, people have got to realise the two party system is dead, independents are the go, even PUP as Daverave points out, couldn't stand Palmer before, but at least he has some conviction and he is challenging the coalition more than Labor somehow, probably because Labor has no conviction, hence their lost in the wilderness status.
Barley I like to bang on about the environment, because I see there are many viable alternatives to coal and oil but we are being being told otherwise by both Labor and Liberal. If coal and oil were an appropriate price (much more) the alternatives would flourish. Unfortunately the Aussie whingers think we are already paying too much, as a percentage of income I think you would find Aussie energy is very cheap, hence our energy rich lifestyles, Japanese and Europeans are not the energy pigs we are, despite having a similar standards of living, they are a little smarter than us though (maybe not smarter, just more disciplined) . And yes Sheepdog those "save the warming planet dudes" shit me too, all those mentawai trips have a huge carbon footprint, Ratu Motu, quicksilver's boat, (quicksilver the company that likes to spruik its environmental awareness) talks about its diesel consumption in tonnes, I bet there are a lot of well to do guests bragging about their recycling regime and discussing the impending doom of climate change while they sip chardonnay with imported french cheeses awaiting their silver service imported beef meal.
It doesn't mean people cannot go on good trips, it is just the opulence of it all that has become a little hard to take. I go there as well, and other Indo places. But I am sure my carbon footprint is slowed whilst i'm in Indo, even including the flights there, getting around on a scooter for months at a time while my car is in the garage saves shitloads of emissions. Public ferry to the Islands, get around on a modest boats, eat local food, you do not have to be a pig to enjoy it, you don't have to be a martyr either BB, just be aware of your consumption at home and on holidays. Unfortunately it seems people need financial disincentives to change their behaviour.
I don't think you need to worry too much about Abbott Floyd, I thought Labor were in such disarray Abbott would get at least two terms, but it seems Abbott is pissing people off at such a rate, Labor may get back in whilst offering absolutely nothing. But Abbott and co. are ruthless professionals and no doubt will buy the voters back just before the election with a well timed Howardesque 'economic turnaround' or some bullshit where they can give everyone back buckets of money again, coupled with a focus on terrorism they just might pull it off. All Labor need to do is get their shit together a little bit to stop it, a tiny bit even, but one year in opposition with a stable? leader, they still have got nothing. They have got to get rid of Shorten but I really cannot see who can replace him. If they don't get rid of Shorten at least come up with some clear purpose or vision, offer something.
The Islamic State- notice how all economic and social problems have all of a sudden been swept under the carpet, the yanks cant pay their debt, the EU are struggling with member nations defaulting on loans as well. Spain and Greece unemployment astronomical. Yet all these countries who are declaring war on ISIS- the same countries who slapped Israel on the wrist for killing children in a United Nations "safehouse" all of a sudden have the money to declare war and spend money on getting rid of this threat to the safety of human life. The Mad Monk is now high in demand as he puts on his war hat to bring australians together to seek justice. This shit has been going on for years, when the Illuminati, govts, catholics and anglicans cant solve the problems they promised they could solve, they create a war- they have even supplied most of the weapons to the so called enemy in the past. Nothing like a war to to gain votes, especially when you can beat an enemy that is the ultimate evil- stimulates the economy- build those bombs- make them guns- we will always be able to sell them to someone else when we need to- and hey, the emperor is wearing no clothes.
Dave, sypkan.... It is so convoluted....
Davo - A matryoshka doll..... Keep opening it, you'll find another.... And another.... And another....
The west needs cheap and reliable oil.... Within that doll, you'll find a judeo/christian doll wanting to justify 2000 years of bloodshed, along with their muslim brothers of course.... Imagine no apocalypse.... Imagine 2000 years of death, struggle, sacrifice, prayer, just to be proven it's all bullshit.... Some believers would deliberately take the side of their devil, just to aid and abet the "rapture"... they'd do it for god.... I mean, how embarrassing.... All of this, and God/allah doesn't even show up for the party......
Then, within that doll, we have a morgan gallop poll doll.... Within that one, arms sales...... ad infinitum....
Sypo'..... " Unfortunately the Aussie whingers think we are already paying too much"...... Dunno, mate.... Dunno about that one.... A lot of struggling people out there.....
Ahh Sheepdog, your such a seventies child (me too) with your ideals of equality and a fair go.
Totally agree with your summary of the oil/jihad/crusade situation. It is a bit like the old saying 'art imitating life' or 'life imitating art' The bible/koran bashers are more than happy to bring it on because "it is written" and "god/allah is on our side" depending on whoever is talking at the time. That is why we should be moving away from the dirty business that is oil (not just talking about pollution).
"A lot of struggling people out there"
That may be true, but I have no sympathy for people living in their ducted air-con Mc mansion style house, with all the windows shut, and a regularly updated TV in every room, whinging on facebook with their latest I phone about their $500 electricity bill.
Yes no doubt some pensioners are doing it tough, but not many, most of them are living in a huge house by themselves on a quarter acre block etc.etc. I know you have already had this discussion with hardman Blowin though. Yeh maybe they should be able to keep the family home, but it is not just pensioners. Australia has some of the biggest houses in the world and the smallest occupancy rates/family sizes, some thing like 2.3 people, that is a lot of empty rooms.
The world has changed my friend, we grew at the end of a time when equality was the main goal. Modernity was the goal fueled by the enlightenment. Where the gurus thought if we educate the lower classes society will be cured of its ills like poverty, deprivation, substance abuse etc. etc. And the state will provide welfare for those incapable. Well it didn't work, and modernity didn't allow for mass consumption, environmental problems, globalisation and competition for resources. And welfare sometimes encourages societies ills.
Now we are in post modernity, a cynical time, where competition is king, and people are expected to provide for themselves, it has lead to a huge gap between the rich and poor, and hence problems with things like energy pricing, but the cat is well and truly out of the bag. I'm not driving the bus, fuck I don't even like the driver.
Maybe the state could provide free solar panels or subsidies for pensioners and low income earners, the state needs to intervene somewhere, but then there'll be scammers that take advantage of that.
"That is why we should be moving away from the dirty business that is oil (not just talking about pollution)."
Nothing ever happens till the shit hits the fan, my enlightened friend.... But you know that.....
"Pigs at the trough, we sell our "stuff" to China.
A million twitter followers, things could not be finer
But we all shriek when we see the stars above
A poll says we should detonate the satellite of love"
it's a weird fuckn life, sypkan..... A strange time to be alive......
Read this in the Age:

No doubt planted there by some spin doctor.
Although one of America's leading sceptics is a bit concerned, too:

Probably nothing to worry about, though.
This all goes back to My little chat with blowin and co..... Brandis in June - July.... Introduces bill that includes giving permission for Asio to break into houses whilst people aren't there, search the premis, then sneak out with owners of house not even knowing..... Yeah, whilst the cornflake munching masses have been whipped into a lather over Islam, this law sounds great..... But really think about it..... really really think about it..... Just like the aboriginal children were used as a wedge re' " intervention", and now those laws are being used in mainstream society, these Asio powers will also cross over.... Islam is the wedge for Orwellian law, against YOU...... All well and good when Islam is the target... But wait till everyday folk are getting their houses searched whilst away for the weekend........ Not all Cops are straight and narrow.... We all know or have heard of corrupt practices..... Asio is no different..... Who is going to prove whether evidence was planted???? No witnesses.... No checks and balances.....
This "terror plot" was hatched and planned back in May... That's what the government and media says....
800 cops, helicopters, and as Floyd said, murdochs cameras just happened to be there...... I mean, 1 real arrest.... 4 cops could've gone to his workplace and got him..... But no..... A spectacular sideshow is needed to pressure parliament to pass Brandis's draconian bill.....
A terror plot hatched in May......... It's now September..... 4 months to plan buying a knife, a camera, and attacking someone in public...... Took that teenager in port maquarie last night 3 minutes.... If the terrorist needed 4 months to plan a knife attack, I think we're ok............. Wake up........
But Sheepdog didn't you know we are all on the one TEAM. This is TEAM AUSTRALIA with T. Rabbit as the captain/coach. As Jaydubya said you are either with us or against us. Wouldn't it be just dandy to see things so clearly.
You read my mind memlasurf. Watch it sheepy or tonybarber will accuse you of supporting ISIS like he accused me! Funny how accusations like that get thrown around just because I didn't want us to get sucked into another war. Maybe all those barking for war should encourage their kids(or grandkids) to join the army?
Yorko.... Got fully harassed back in 03 whilst peacefully demonstrating with labor's Kate Molloy in front of Alex Somlyays Coolum office..... You know, guys in suits with reflective sunny's taking photos of us.... Telling us to fuck off and "we know who you are" etc.....Lost a lot of "friends" over my stance...... Looks like I'm losing a few more atm..... Getting a bit nasty in some areas of the social net...... "It's better to live on your feet than die on your knees".......

hey he'll only bring it up if he has a torch to burn- churchies spend too much advertising- besides i gave the whole lot a gobful this morning about their warmongering, prejudice and cowardice to take a stand-google actually shut me down for three hours and net still playing up. It's pathetic, really it is. Have to laugh at them though or I may end up crying thinking how did I end up with Gilligan and Mr Magoo.

Yes Yorke, the biggest issue for me is why do we need to get involved in another Arab conflict? Isil are a bunch of religious gangsters and should be stopped but by other Arabs. Why can't the Saudis go in with all there US military hardware and stomp on them? Why isn't there an Arab League (there is that word again) that deals with these nutters? Why is it left to the west to do the dirty work? And why is it only the oil states? What about Boko Haram in Africa? Why don't we bomb them as well while we are at it as they are equally evil? Stray- gator interesting chap that Sam Harris. On the money with organised religion too I reckon, brings to mind the late Chistopher Hitchens and his book 'Why God is not great'.

Memlasurf: So, having fucked up Iraq by helping the US/UK to invade it for a lie and without any idea of how to win the peace, Australia should now leave these genocidal bastards to carve up other Arabs they don't like just because, what? they're Arabs and a long way away?? Just bury our heads in the sand? Let it fly? Abandon the victims of our leaders' stupidity to horrible fates?
Australia helped make this mess. No getting away from that. ISIS is not "just another failed state".
Stray…whats happening in Iraq and Syria is a bit different to back in 2003 when Saddam was there. ISIS are in Syria where no western country is. Saddam was a clever in that he had Sunnis in key positions of power. Now the Shi'ites are in and this is the problem. This is a Arab versus Arab, Muslim versus Muslim. If you happen to be in Sydney then go down to Lakemba and get the facts but be careful. Whether AUS helped create this - debatable. There is no reason they could not work this out but we are talking historical tribal conflicts.
How is it debatable whether AUS helped create a power vacuum in Iraq, giving IS a toehold that it took advantage of when Syria imploded? And the Sunni and Shiites are religious sects, not tribes. A bit like Methodists vs Baptists, except with a factor of +1000 on the hatred index.

Stray...the Sunnis and Shiite were originally tribal. Yes , power vacuum alright, but run by Arabs. But Aus had nothing to do with Syria - again a Sunni , Kurd, Shiite shitfight. Do you just turn your head and let it go ?
Barber.... " But Aus had nothing to do with Syria"....... It all has to do with Syria mate..... That's why the west armed Isis in the first place, to overthrow the Syrian regime, with our blessing........
The west armed the Taliban to do it's dirty work against the bogey man of the day - Russia.... The Taliban then turned and used the weapons against the west.... Gee that worked out well......
The west armed Saddam and Iraq to do it's dirty work against the bogey man of the day - Iran.... Iraq then turned and used the weapons against the west.... Gee that worked out well......
The west armed Isis to do it's dirty work against the bogey man of the day - Syria.... Isis then turned and used the weapons against the west .... Gee that worked out well......
Now, the west want to arm Shiites and "moderate" Syrians to do it's dirty work against the bogey man of the day - Isis.....
I'm sure everything will work out........... :/
As SD says, it all has to do with Syria.
The following comment is taken from another site (IA) and all within is verifiable from other sources.
Now look at this photo :
It shows Sen.John McCain, a senior US Senator and former Presidential candidate at a clandestine meeting in Syria in May 2013. He had traveled illegally from Turkey to meet with leaders of the armed opposition to Assad. One of those in the photo is Mohammad Nour, a spokesman for the Northern Storm Brigade (of the Al-Nosra Front, that is to say, al-Qaeda in Syria). This at a time when the US was publicly denying giving any support to al Qaeda forces in Syria.
The guy in the photo on the far left who is talking to John McCain is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the current head of ISIS that McCain now rails against. Al-Baghdadi had publicly created ISIS just one month before this meeting so McCain would have known that fact.
Since October 4, 2011, Ibrahim al-Badri (Al-Baghdadi) was on a US list of its five most wanted terrorists. Up to $ 10 million was offered to anyone who would assist in his capture. He was included in a list of the Sanctions Committee of the UN as a member of Al Qaeda.
John McCain would also have been well aware of those facts: that he was dealing with a listed al Qaeda terrorist with a reward out for his capture. Yet here he is, in May 2013, 18 months after the US government had listed him as a top al Qeada terrorist, conversing with Al-Baghdadi about bringing down the Assad government.
US policy intentions have been explicitly about supporting jihadists in order to destabilize and bring down various governments in the Middle East. It's an explicit program of producing political chaos, death and civil disorder.
And yet just a week ago Sen.John McCain can write a lead article in one of America's premier newspapers that ISIS is the enemy and it is backed by Syria (which is definitely false since they are at war with each other, are of opposing religious faiths, and ISIS has sworn to destroy the Assad regime. But McCain turns those hard facts completely on their head).
Australia is sending 600 of our troops to Iraq as part of an effort to defeat ISIS -- a group that largely poses no threat to Australia.
A few days ago Sec.State John Kerry issued joint communiqué signed by the US and 10 Arab states endorsing a broad strategy against ISIS.
Here's something from US commentator David Stockman that should cause people to stop and think:
But Turkey didn’t even sign the communique; won’t deploy its military against ISIS—despite its adjacency and capability to demolish the ISIS capital in short order; and won’t even permit US bombers to operate against ISIS out of the Incirlik air base–notwithstanding that 60 years ago it was that very facility which allowed Turkey to avoid Stalin’s clutches.
Instead, it seems that the Islamist Sunni regime in Ankara has more urgent fish to fry than the medievalist Sunni sect encamped on its border: Namely, its far higher priority is deposing the secularist Alawite branch of the Shiite tribe represented by the Assad regime in Damascus...
Think about it. Turkey -- a nation adjacent to ISIS controlled regions -- sees no major threat from ISIS and will not participate in supporting US and Gulf States actions against it. Australia -- on the far side of the world and suffering no appreciable threat from ISIS -- sends 600 of our military forces to attack them.
Wow!!! Awesome post TGF..... One of your best....... BTW, do you find it odd that police ask a terrorist suspect in for questioning at a police station, yet didn't frisk him down before letting him in the building? A known suspect?
Very weird....... Thankfully no bomb was strapped to him ...... Very weird indeed.......
SD, the incident occured outside the station on the way to the building I'm pretty sure. When the cops shook hands with old mate after he got out of his car.
Great link TGF.
Craig. Whatever way we look at it, we've gone from overkill to underkill.... Last week - terror suspect arrested in 4am raid, hundreds of police, helicoptors, dogs, media cameras.... This week, they phone a known terror suspect to come to the station.....
On both occasions, a simple couple of carloads of cops grabbing them from work/home could've done the trick.....
Re' outside the station.. I think you are right, craig..... I still find it bizarre....

The final budget outcome for the 2013-2014 financial year has been released.
This FBO confirms Labor delivered six successive deficits totalling $240 billion with many more to come. Including 2013-14, Labor left the Government with future deficits of $123 billion over the forward estimates to 30 June 2017.
If no policy action was taken to repair the budget position the Government inherited, gross debt would have spiralled to $667 billion over the medium term and continued to grow. It is the equivalent of $25,000 for every Australian. This is Labor’s legacy of debt for all Australians.
I know if said it here before , but keep in mind this was during the biggest mining boom and revenue windfall the country has ever seen.
In a properly functioning democracy Wayne Swan and the 106bn k d wong would be incarcerated and facing charges. Marti Parkinson would be charged as an accessory.
And Floyd would be recognised for the fool he is.
Grocer, you IPA or IGA?
F...please note that not all budget cuts have been implemented. We all agree we do have a deficit. Let's just see what finally gets passed. Then we can talk facts. We all know that pulled the strings too tight. He will pull back. Let's just get rid of some this debt and rorts we all know about.
How much is this war against ISIS gonna set us back, Tony? Our tokenistic involvement will cost billions, and maybe Australian lives......... If there was a true "budget emergency", Abbott could've just committed us to logistical support via Pine gap... It would've had the same tokenistic effect on a world stage at a fraction of the price......
It's all bullshit, Tony......
Perhaps we could outsource our involvement in the war terror, such as we have with refugees. If Cambodia has a half decent army, we could maybe pay them to take our spot. I know ammo is not any cheaper no matter who is firing, but the asian soldiers get paid peanuts and life is cheap over there, why not? We've been outsourcing our elderly for a while no also.
No-one got anything to say about the loss of the car industry under a government and high viz Tony that promised to create 1,000,000 jobs?
Slumber away ........
