I saw this board on marketplace today, fairly cheap $250 a bit of a novelty shape grovel board, just something that i thought okay it's cheap, its still got life in it, so wouldn't mind just giving a spin for curiosity sake, if i dont like it i will just move it on sell it for $200
Anyway the advert said "will lower the price if asked" kind of a weird thing to say rather than just ONO, but thought id be silly to not offer a little less, so i offered him $220, then he replied sorry wont go lower than the advertised price.
I didnt bother questioning his advert, just thought okay bit weird, but no worries, sent him a message i will take it for $250, you home tomorrow etc
He then replied some other guy messaged him and will pay $300, but you can have it if pay $300.
Ha ha dont now if he is just playing me or if he is telling me the truth, but i told him okay cool best you take $300 from the other guy, but if it falls through im happy to take it for $250.
The extra $50 doesn't matter if the original price was $300 i wouldn't have cared, but i kind of didn't care about buying the board either way if you know what i mean,(i have too many boards as it is) but i just hate that feeling of thinking im being played.
But yeah some weird cats out there on marketplace etc

It was probably a Pinkie.
Best to avoid yeah.

wrong thread @mattlock? "Tell him he's dreaming" - I concur. Defs a rort @indo.. cheeky!
(haha, well you'd know @seeds, after you semi-hornswoggled that guy while getting that board for me! (lest this brief tale gets added to @jef's seeds-after-dark file which currently consists of a comic though immature misdemeanour, maybe i'm kidding. But maybe I'm not ; )

You’re on the money mofo!!
Didn’t have to jump 4 back yard’s 6 foot fences to gloriously make it home only to falter at the last hurdle.
I saw old mate’s look on his face when I dropped the bomb. Ha it was fleeting but priceless.

So i awoke this morning and i have an automatic notification message that the price has changed, so i have a look and he changed the price to $300 then back to $250 so it appears in the advert that it's been reduced in price($300 price crossed out)
And i also get a message sent from him late last night, that the deal has fallen through with the other guy and you can have it for $250
Ha ha obviously just tried to play me, and he didnt even wait until say latter today to claim the deal fell through.
Might still grab it, but will give the board a real good look over for any sign of a slight crease etc and bring the exact amount in cash.
Honestly this is the kind of shit some Indonesians do on land deals, offer it for one price, say you will take it and suddenly the price has jumped as they claim someone else wants to pay more, then when you walk away they come back to the original price, then you measure it all up and its not the size they claimed.
Actually if im honest its probably something Trump would do too. :D

Sometimes goes the other way too. A good friend of mine paid next to nix for a Lopez-shaped Bolt as the seller was fairly clueless and the primary thumbnail was an image that looked nothing like a surfboard, let alone featuring the most important aspect - the lightning bolt.
Was only chance that my mate clicked on the ad and scrolled through some photos that he realised what was being sold.
Similarly, I sold a classic Bill Cilia Nirvana shaped for 'Pig' - Steven Clarke-Jones - with red and yellow checkers, gloss coat, in great condition, for a pittance. Was a bit perplexed at the tepid response to a great board. The guy who bought it - Wayne from the Cenny Coast who hammered it down the freeway ASAP - explained that I hadn't listed it in 'watersports - surfing' and it was in some random category, possibly from whatever I was selling previously.
Of course he told me that after cash had changed hands.
Cheers, Wayno!

Wow! Classic Nirvana.
Off topic but in terms of working the other way- my younger bro bought an acoustic guitar from a garage sale. Bloke didn't know anything about guitars but my bro offered him $5 and he accepted. Another bloke with knowledge of guitars said that it was about $2k to replace.
Score!

Downed quite a few scoobs in Billy’s shed……got a bit toxic in there when the heaters were on…..ha ha.
Yeh…he made great boards.

Bargained a bloke down to $30 at a market once on a 9/10 full gloss Lynch singlefin, sold it to the curl for x2 new boards and wetties, hung in their Torquay store for a decade or so before the latest renovation, mate was given a MP singlefin from his Pambula days, it had been under the house for years and was in excellent condition until he rode it for a year or so …. they’re still out there

@opti, you judge me too quickly and harshly, this was possibly 25years ago, he wanted $40, I got it for my son to surf, got a very small ding repaired and was told by a local shaper legend and friend of Wayne’s not to surf it etc but to contact RC which I did and it was only then I was told its value, btw, such was the board I was told by the RC guy I could have got more for the board at the Surfing Museum but I wanted it to return to either RC or WL.
