Ol' mate Lanky Dean is back in Hawaii. He's been sending through random photos: weird waves, good surfers, guys mowing the lawn in their thongs - all sorts of stuff.

This photo came captioned:

"Who's board is this?"

My response?

"The green gun makes me think of Winton but he never had those sponsors.

"Brock also rode green boards (or had green on them, he was born on St Patrick's day) but he mostly rode for Gotcha.

"Tom Carroll rode for Quik and O'Neill but never at the same time. Doubt he would've ridden Willis bros as he was on Rawson's from a young age.

"Liam rode Willis bros but never those sponsors.

"Dunno, Marvin Foster? Mickey Nielson?"

Wrong. The red buzzer lit up and made the 'buh-bow' sound.

I interviewed him, or tried to, for an article in 2017 and something was clearly amiss then.

Hopefully he's getting the care he needs.

Ahhh, spam or chicken box atm...
Bleak situation housing wise in hawaii.

Why can’t some one on the North Shore put him up somewhere?
If he’s held in such high regard and has such legend status. There’s a lot of wealthy people in the surf community on Oahu, surely someone can get him clean and the help he needs?

Unfortunately money & help doesn’t get addicts clean , enables them more than anything , until the addict is truly willing to surrender and wants to help themselves, then nothing changes. How many great surfers have lost the battle ? Some have survived and even made great comebacks but the majority go down . Sad reality for many .

True supafreak.
That was pretty simplistic of me earlier.
Ben Cousins prime example

Classic example, he seems to be doing ok now but fuck me it took along time for him to come good, amazing he survived . His family had to more or less disown him and let him find his rock bottom .
