The one good thing about Youtube is the 'Do it Yourself' knowledge sharing, look up any subject and you will find dozens of people sharing experiential knowledge.
For example a few years ago I decided to turn an old rusty unregistered trailer into a towable firefighting trailer with a 1,000 litre cage tank and petrol pump.
After reading several clips I had all the info necessary to go ahead.
One person even shared how long it takes to empty the water from the tank using 2'' fire hose, 4 minutes.

I also like the music algorithm.
The censoring on that site is criminal, X is much better, though some of the hate speech allowed
doesn't give me much hope for humanity.
Maybe our destiny is for Blackrock to turn planet earth into a black rock

For all US Election buffs - What were getting wrong - by Niall Ferguson - prominent economic /historian and self described elite who argues our worries about who will win the US election may be overblown compared to some other issues closer to home . Good value half hour or so listening.

I’m a YouTube fan.
Surfing, hunting, fishing, different documentaries.
Plus like you said, you can pretty much learn how to do anything you want.

I enjoyed John Stewart until he started talking about and like the Big Macca .

He has a great sense of humour .

He even started talking about The Big M , Fillet of Fish , the Big W .

What is IT with Americans and their fixation on Richards and Karens ???

Trump said he will Probably Pardon Hunter Biden .

No one tried to Impeach Biden 4 corruption and playing in Ukraine and China .

No Fake Steele Files , were acted upon by the FBI .

Trump doesn't want to cross out the bloody letter X , with Misinformation !

ALL those that Hate Trump have left are Cats and Dog's and Dictator Jokes .

Especially the Dict Joke , is so old imo .

When Jimmy started screaming in pain , he looked a Pelosi Dark State Goose , nearly .

YouTube is such a good social media, most kids don’t even use it or FB.

YT has some of the most interesting ad free content available…and every interest is catered for. Some really interesting and creative people post all sorts of stuff. Not a lot of hate or angry trolls which is a bonus compared to most other social media.

Hello Roady

I think both U and AW are correct .

Saw an interesting Movie on Netflix this week , Mr Marvellous I think .

It showed a family that had No You Tube and lived in the bush like AW .

Such amazing kids and so well educated .

For a number of reasons , the Family had 2 take a Middle Ground and Get more connected to Modern Life .

A nice happy ending .

Haha Ben,
When I was up in Melbourne this month I came across an old Surfing Life in my brothers stack of dunny reading material and there was an article about a young fresh faced guy that the pros relied on to get forecasts for their trips and how he had "industry players" I think was the term they used, taking a lot of notice of him, something like that, and there you were Ben!

You've aged well and done well mate.
When this site started, my old school ignorance got the better of me, the cams were a new thing back then and it was ruffling a few feathers, mine included, I think it was around the time that sign went up at Lennox that wasn't so complimentary to you. I cracked the shits one day and wrote a bit of an abusive email to you and to your enduring credit you took the time and responded with a long and polite and great response. You could have easily just ignored me, but you didn't.
I understand your desire to exit the back door here, I've done it myself a few times, then found down the track that I went around the block and came back in through the front door and sat in the lounge room here talking shit again, like I am now.

I often chuckle to myself about what you guys must be thinking when you log on and read some of the rubbish we post here, but I also think the threads are as valuable a service as the cams and foreys and surf journalism you provide. A lot of us guys are divorced, or a bit broken or maybe lonely or just big mouthed pontificators and you give a vent here and when these threads are at their best they can be great reading, and very funny.
I'd like it if admin guys spent more time here but I get that you have busy lives and it's probably wiser for admin. to keep a bit of distance from some of the madness that open forums like these can generate.

I've lived a pretty isolated existence for a while now, covid lockdowns were no problem for me, I've been socially distanced for a long time, licking the wounds from a longish life well lived but that left some marks and scars. I can go days at times without human contact and that's the way I like it, I honestly prefer the company of animals and birds to most of the humans, except the special ones that I love and care about, but I still love to chat, and enjoy the chats I get here. They keep me connected, and underneath it all we are all surfers, our common bond, my people, our tribe, something we all can agree on no matter what differences of opinion or outlook.

So after sneaking out the back door quietly Ben, stop in the back yard and look back at your house, the one you built, now full of a bunch of misfits and dumbarses and characters that sit in the lounge prattling shit to each other day in day out, and having fun.
That fresh faced young dude that was forecasting for the pros built something pretty good I reckon.
Hope you are making a motza out of it.

Hey Roady. Have a think on these things….
The US borrow more money than any country/entity in the world. As of the end of 2023, the National Debt was 34 Trillion.
Some of that debt is owned by gov’t institutions. (The Federal Reserve owns $5,239, for example.) Of the debt owned by outside entities, the US Public (meaning:The Elite) owns the largest share, at $5,709. After that there are 2 countries that own the largest shares. Japan, at $1,137, and then (yep, you guessed it) China. At $816 Billion. In fact, borrowing from China has spiked since mid 2021.
Now, Trump passed a historic corporate tax cut in December 2017. After a 30 year run of wealth redistribution, the rich hardly needed it, but it put a swath of the business community in Trump’s pocket. They could trust him to “do the right thing.” That’s why he did it.
The ripple effect is this: without taxation the money required for the two MUST HAVES (social benefits, defense spending) had to be borrowed. This turned the elites here from the Taxed to Creditors (great for them, they are now increasingly “the owners”), but it also had the effect of borrowing money, from China, to support Ukraine. And China has been lending that money clear eyed while talking “friends without limits” towards Putin.
There’s more than 3 parties involved in how the war in Ukraine ends.

Great work Waxy .

Add on another $US20T in mandated Spending and the US has really stomped in the Debt do do .

The Chinese think forward and have been Selling their US Bonds 4 years , as why lend money to your Future Enemy . They like Gold .

Seems that Changed in 2021 , a bit and guessing Biden was involved in doing a Deal .

The Wars are costing 2 much money and the Arsenals will B replaced .

Trump will try and stop the wars .

I heard him say" Tariff's will Replace Income Tax" .

I wish we would do a bit of that in Australia ( I don't pay Income Tax ) .

Tariffs are like a GST , nearly .

Guessing if Xi and Putin are Dealing with Trump , the Rest of the World will have 2 follow 2 .

edit

Trump knows he is dealing with 2 Devils .

If I have 2 choose who I want to negotiate a good deal , it would be Trump .

He is a Natural , at it .

Age doesn't weary the Art of the Deal .

Where would we be without YouTube
explaining everything to us ?

We’d be way better off as a society if we didn’t have YouTube. Young people may actually participate in humanly activities, stop flashing their body parts for money, rid the globe of mass advertising, because when you break it down , that’s all it is.

People post, it attracts an audience, YouTube charges advertisers, simple formula really.
YouTube pay uploaders peanuts. Stooged the lot of us.

Older folk upload as well, more fool them also. We dont need AI, we are already living ‘artificial lives’.

Have you heard of these things, books, they’re amazing. AW

gotta agree with AW and adam12, the phones have turned us into walking zombies, lunching zombies, zombie zombies...

just sad

especially watching the kids...

but Utube is also excellent for 'do it yourself' dudes... fixing cars, houses etc... I've taken on jobs I'd be half clueless about without it...

it's amazing the time crew put into those vids, mechanics, tradesmen generally... amazing the inside info they are willing to give up too...

doin themselves outa a job

all for what? ...seems 5 mins of fame and not much else... but good on em...

sure seems the case roadkill...

I don't really get why the kamala campaign is so shit?

all she had to do is present a basic cohesive plan and trump would be toast...

but the campaign of the duck bill platitude seems either too cagey or too useless to do so...

dunno if it's the 'small target' strategy thinking that seems to have taken over the left across the world...

or they simply cannot be forward and transparent with their 'plans'?

bit o both me thinks

their reaction to the internet and it's democratisation properties has them all deer in the headlights and authoritarian like...

they gotta loosen up

@PopDown'
"Age doesn't weary the Art of the Deal ."
Have you ever read it? His book.
Apart from the fact it was ghost written for him, it's the biggest load of crap and fantasy since Mein Kampf.
Take a look at his record.
He's no magical deal maker, his MO is to stiff everybody, he's fucked up most of his businesses and gone broke a dozen times. He went broke running a casino, a university, wine, meat, real estate developments, on and on.
American banks wouldn't touch him, burnt too many of them. He was funding himself washing dirty Russian oligarch cash and loans from the dodgy banks, and even that wasn't going too well for him.
Mark Burnett saved his arse, the TV producer that created Survivor and The Apprentice, the godfather of reality TV, (who's got a lot more to answer for than the resurrection of the myth of Trump IMO.)

He's a con man Hutchy, that's his only and greatest success, and he's a world class one, schooled by one of America's greatest con artists, Roy Cohn, architect of McCarthyism. Trump rode on the coat tails of his inheritance, Cohn's gangsterism, mob connections and New York power, and Ivana was as much the driving force and brains behind his real estate "successes" in the 20th century.

You want to know the real "art of the deal", the Cohn playbook, that Trump learned, adopted and still practices to this day?
Stiff everybody, ignore the law, intimidate and threaten then...
"1. Never settle, never surrender. 2. Counter-attack, counter-sue immediately. 3. No matter what happens, no matter how deeply into the muck you get, claim victory and never admit defeat.”
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/06/donald-trump-roy-cohn-relationship
Does that sound familiar?

I get sick of hearing from people that buy into the myth that somehow this guy is some magician of deal making. He's a joke to the real money, the real deal makers in New York, persona non grata, an unacceptable and unwelcome person. They hate his guts, burnt all his bridges, long ago, with his "deal making".
It's a myth, the great deal maker. His actual record in business speaks for itself.

I wouldn't trust him negotiating chook food for the chook shed, he'd pinch the money, buy some cheap sub standard crap, kill all the chooks and then sue me and lose and then claim he won anyway, or it was rigged.
You've been suckered I reckon old mate. Bought into a falsehood, the greatest American myth of the 21st century.
Just watch how good a deal maker he is if he wins again, because he will be in the sandpit playing with the big boys again then, and they will "deal" with that puffed up New York nepo baby bullshit artist like they did the last time, easily.
And his tariff "plan", if you can call it one, is a joke as well.
Send Americans Broke Again. SABA not MAGA.

Thanks Adam, appreciate the nice words. Was actually Stab Magazine you were referring to.. sometime around 2005 I think. Been a pretty wild ride, and I there's been a lot of interesting stories over the last 22 years that'll hopefully see the light of day at some point. But yeah it's amazing to think how far things have come from the first few faxes I used to send to the local surfshops in Adelaide back in 1999.
