A lot of people automatically write off anything on YouTube without , being able to decipher the BS from the factual information .

I know, I didn’t, until I did .
Having just spent an extended period of time up in the city of Melbourne, the longest I've been in that place for over twenty years, I noticed many changes, not just the city and it's mix and increase in population, but the number of people walking around being led by their smartphones. It blew me away. I found myself having to dodge them lest we collide head on, in supermarkets, on the street, even walking along the Yarra bike track. People live their lives through the things these days. Like a lens.
I purposely don't own one, mine's just a phone. I've lived a long time without the internet in my pocket, I've got it at home, my older brother doesn't even have it, he rings me and asks me to look something up when he wants some information off the web, I had a cousin (RIP) who was a real estate agent (also a premiership playing full back for Hawthorn in the 70's/80's) who never even had a mobile phone, just the landline. But these days people like us are outliers.
On building sites, smokos used to be fun. You'd get to chat and crack jokes and tell stories. These days they can tend to be silent affairs. The phones come out. I've watched groups of young apprentices sitting around silently, but they are often still conversing with each other...on their smartphones!
So the point of this little observation of mine is about the youtube thing on SN.
People, especially young people, have a different way of communicating these days, and learning, and living, and it's through the lens of the internet and the smartphone. The world changed.
I used to take the whole weekend to read The Age. Journalism was a thing back then.
It's like a pamphlet now. Can read it in 5 minutes, and I don't learn too much doing so.
So the tendency these days when people try to make a point is not to articulate it with their own words so much as it is to reference that point online, hence the use of youtube videos and memes and so on. Nothing wrong with that necessarily, some people are very good at it, sometimes it can make the point effectively. (@Jelly could do that) But often, as has been the case on SN threads at times, it just floods the zone with bullshit and makes the whole discussion unintelligible and a waste of time.
So I applaud Stu's efforts here. These threads can be gold at times. I've learned so much here over the years, an incredible resource. I've made friends (and enemies...hi @Indo), and broadened not just my outlook and knowledge, but even my music playlist.
Not really sure what point I'm trying to make here. Just a bit of a rave because I'm sitting here reading through all this. Got up early all pumped to test out the back after a long period waveless and the swell didn't come to the party I had planned. Don't buy the papers anymore, so this website was my Saturday morning read today.
I'm going to leave the internet here in my lounge room now and go out into the world and have some fun or do some work with the wippa snippa. I know there's probably a youtube video somewhere that covers both those topics, but I know I'll get along fine without it, or a smartphone.
