Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Steve Shearer (issued Fri 1st Dec)

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Still solid E swell  Sat AM with S’ly winds
  • Easing swells Sun
  • Small leftover swells Mon small for the rest of next week

Recap

Solid E’ly swells developed yesterday to 3-5ft with onshore winds. Today is seeing even bigger 6ft+ surf from the E with light onshore SE winds.

This weekend and next week (Dec1- Dec 8)

No great change to the weekend f/cast. Low pressure has moved off the coast and is slow moving, with a broad fetch of strong E’ly winds on the southern flank of the low supplying plenty of E’ly swell to NE Tasmania.

Swell peaks today but solid leftovers tomorrow will still be in the 4-5ft range with the occ. 6ft set under light S/SE-SE winds as the low slowly moves away and a new high approaches from the E.

Winds remain from the S/SE Sun AM, tending more E/SE on Sun but remaining light enough for surfing. E swell will be slowly easing with a few 3ft sets becoming 2-3ft during the day. Get in for the mop up on Sun.

Not much on the menu for next week as weak high pressure moves NE of Tasmania on Mon, bringing a weak onshore flow from the E-NE and small surf.

Marginal NE windswell is possible Tues before a weak trough/front brings a shallow change and more variable winds Wed.

We may see a minor S swell bump Wed but nothing significant before back to tiny surf.

Next weekend we may see another trough form off the NSW Coast or Tasmania with some chance for an E-SE swell for NETas. This is a long way out so lets see how it looks on Mon.

Lets see how this looks on Mon

Seeya then and have a great weekend!
