Small S'ly pulse late week. Conditions remaining clean
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Guy Dixon (issued Wednesday 18th May)
Best Days: Friday and Tuesday.
Recap:
Conditions have remained clean over the past couple of days under persistent westerly breezes. As for size however, there hasn’t been much to speak of. Frontal paths have been terrible for swell generation and brisk westerly breezes have been ironing out any background energy trying to break.
This week (Thursday 19th - Friday 20th):
The flat spell will be finally broken by the end of the week as a strong front and low crosses the region on Thursday. Initially, westerly breezes bring limited prospects, however southwesterly fetches look to develop off the southeastern coast of Tasmania, whipping up a small amount of energy for late Thursday, more so Friday.
While the swell generating fetches are not very well aligned, the intensity and close proximity to the coast should still provide enough energy for south facing beaches to build to around 1-2ft late on Thursday, before peaking on Friday morning with sets in the 2ft+ range.
Persistent offshore breezes will swing from northwesterly through to southwesterly for the remainder of the week keeping conditions generally clean, easing slightly over the weekend.
This weekend (Saturday 21st - Sunday 22nd) and next week (Monday 23rd onward):
The next most significant system looks to pass over the region on Monday, with broader, weaker more elongated southwesterly fetches passing to the southeast of Tasmania once again.
Preceding this however, a northerly airflow looks to increase on Sunday, whipping up a small windswell to around 1-2ft for northeast facing beaches by the afternoon.
This time, the peak of the swell looks to fall on Tuesday morning, with sets in the 2ft range, remaining clean under a persistent offshore airflow.
