Sunday's swell event has eased back a touch with the core fetch of 55kt winds becoming pinched and elongated. Core winds never really reached the 60kt potential, so the swell periods will be lacking for the outer bombies.
Regardless, the surf along the inshore is still more than likely to be very big, with light winds bringing a good chance of good surf. We will be monitoring the situation closely as it unfolds.
The large swell due for late Saturday/Sunday is looking bigger than the previously expected with observed winds over the Indian Ocean coming in above forecast. Not only that, this system is expected to intensify overnight into Thursday leading to a 12-15ft swell on Sunday, bigger at the offshore bombies.

Conditions were great on Thursday with solid 6ft surf across the South West with a few 8ft bombs thrown in for good measure. Light easterly winds were keeping everything in order making for a long day of epic waves. Further north, conditions were clean under light offshore breezes but the surf was lacking in the size department, maxing out at around 1-1.5ft.
Make the most of the next couple of days because the weekend's large swell is going to be shocking.
Thursday will have residual 5-6ft surf surf under workable northeasterly breezes, while Friday will see a fresh pulse with dicey winds. As for the metro beaches, the surf should continue in the 1-2ft range for the remainder of the week.
Winds are likely to be fresh onshore for the duration of the weekend's swell event. Hang out for Tuesday which has the next best chance of light winds and residual energy in the water.
There are a few options for a surf this week with fresh swells on Tuesday and Wednesday and workable winds in the morning, a fading swell and favourable winds on Thursday and fun looking pulse on Friday.
The large swell which we have been monitoring is still on track for the weekend, with the latest model update showing a more promising scenario for a brief window of moderately/relatively okay winds for Saturday morning. Stay tuned.
After a long hard week of poor winds and choppy surf, the weather gods are ready to cooperate and give us something to work with. Winds will improve from Sunday tending more and more offshore as the week proegresses. Tuesday is looking like a day to earmark, with a fresh southwesterly swell of a decent size and opportunities for good waves. Also on the cards is a solid swell to end the month.
Average mix of windswells and groundswell to end the week, with a long-range SW groundswell building Saturday with strong SSE winds, easing Sunday with offshores.
The coming week is looking shocking. Put your boards in for ding repair and don't bother asking your boss for the day off because winds are looking to be persistent onshore all week with no decent fresh pulses of swell. The weekend holds the best chance of a fun wave with a pulse to 6ft+ and workable winds, but stay tuned for a potential large swell towards the end of the month.
This weekend is going to be the best opportunity to score a wave as the majority of next weeks looks to be a write off as a pair of lows cross the South West. Saturday is the day with 4-6ft surf and offshore breezes all day. Sunday won't be bad, but a fair bit smaller.
