Mambo: Art Irritates Life - video
An hour long doco of the screen printing & record label that morphed into the enfant terrible of the surf and fashion world. As companies such as RVCA parade their artistic chops, they're simply following in the footsteps of Mambo who not only created 'art you can wear' but did it with heaped teaspoons of wit and social commentary.
Made by the same crew behind Bombora, 'Mambo: Art Irritates Life' features interviews with all the artists including ex-South Oz state champ Gerry Wedd.
Apologies for not being able to embed, you've gotta click through to the ABC's website. No doubt it's a socialist conspiracy...

A must see. Great story of free ideas, art and music.
Where are the creative people of today ?

100%! Great ballz of fire...goodness gracious!
Reg Mombassa. What a legend.
I watched on the teev. Thought was fabo; what an amazing experimenter Dare Jennings was - he was a true curator, lots of ideas then commissioning artists to realise them.
Also reminded me of how important the punk era was to creativity. Punk aesthetic & attitude vs. the poxy '80's stuffed shoulder pad aesthetic, music (obviously), poster art & then tee's....the "ironic Mambo" came 5 years later...sort of like.. is ACDC's Back In Black, there 1st huge album, really ACDC without Bon Scott?
Some golden years of Australian culture... bring back the Tude... as in attiTude.
Where have all individuals, free thinkers, pranksters gone ?
Life was never meant to be lived safely. How Have we as a society become so stale and boring, so conformist, so offended.
Art should irritate life as if there was ever a time.
