There’s a lot of nonsense with the narrative around tariffs. Like most said, they will hit the US consumers the most. So why are others panicking? No one likes Americans wherever you go in the world. I never heard anyone in Europe say ‘we love Americans’. They don’t like them and they don’t want them there. So I find all this crying hilarious. US is putting tariffs? Trump wants to isolate? Let them. Isn’t that what everyone wanted? For them to piss off. The world is not in a trade war, it’s the US that is in its own bizarre war, the rest can trade freely between themselves.

Except that the US economy is the biggest in the world, and a lot of countries already have trade agreements, and contracts and
supply chains with the US ,
Which can’t just be transferred to another country overnight,
That’s why it will affect globally.

Europe basically has trade parity with the US. Physical items exported to the US are in favour of Europe. Tech items exported to Europe are in favour of the US.
Trump is picking silly fight he won’t win.

I think after losing power in 2020 , it
Hurt Trumps ego ,
So now he’s gone on a power trip , to compensate for that loss, so he can tell everybody what to do,
It doesn’t matter if it screws his own country.
In fact, he might be deliberately punishing the US for not re-electing him in the 2020 election which he knows he lost.

Trump and Secretary for Homeland Security,
Kristi Noem , are hit with
Nationwide Injunction to reverse their decision to revoke the Temporary Protection Status for
350000 Venezuelans .Noems decision was predicated on negative stereotypes, casting class wide aspersions on their characters
Venezuelans in the US economy are better educated, work more and have less criminality than the average US citizens.

The amount of money that the tariffs will make the USA will be staggering.
The people will have to adjust at first but they will and they will end up richer.
They’ll pay $11 for an Aussie steak if they want one instead of $10.
A Chinese piece of plastic crap will be $6 instead of $4.50.
A Kmart T shirt $12.50 instead of $10.
Americans will survive.
Mercury will assemble their outboards at home instead of China…etc etc
Empty factories buzzing again….morale already up…..trade unions stoked.
All of a sudden there will be jobs again, low company taxes and manufacturing.
After years of local neglect by tainted bribe taking rubbish politicians, the loose trump unit gets things moving again.
It was always going to take a guy like Trump to throw a grenade into the globalist shit pit.
His secret…….He doesn't give a stuff what the globalists think…
….he's going to blow it up and see what happens…..can’t get any worse for them.
Take note Albo…..Global ain’t local…..stay at home ….make stuff here….buy stuff from here…..don’t just mouth the “buy Australian “ jingle when we make NOTHING.
Pretty soon though , we will be able to buy quality goods again .From America !

The tariffs are a significant new tax on the American people. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I’m sure economists will be watching with great interest. Whatever happens, it will be instructive.

So despite the Never Trumpers and the narkiness and the economic turmoil, a large part of me wants to see the world order rejigged; perhaps the raw edges of globalism sanded off, the top heaviness of rent-seeking multinationals shift towards sovereignty, where enshittification is met with stiffer regulation and not mere acceptance.

Could go on but you get the point.

Funny you say that, i was listening to a podcast today called.

"Will Trumps tariffs unravel the neoliberal global order?"

It’s comparing apples and rhinoceroses.

GST is paid on good that are made in Australia and made overseas. It’s not a targeted tax to preference domestic production.

Speaking of fruit, do you pay GST on fresh fruit imported from the US at the supermarket?

When I was younger, I imagined the end result of globalisation would be the eventual dissolution of political borders and countries.. and also a receding of polluting, illogical, long-distance trade.

..and a gentle re-establishing over a thousand years of regions being known for their climate and landforms, their food and practices; people being of the mountains or the sea or the forest.. island people, river people, desert people. Like it was millennia ago, but with choice, measured resource sharing, global communication, and being 'in this' together.

But I did grow up with my mum's fave TS Eliot quote on the back of the toilet door..

"We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring. Will be to arrive where we started. And know the place for the first time."

A new factory or manufacturing plant will take 3-5 years to build, in which time Trump would have retired or maybe changed his mind on the tariffs and the Democrats or more moderate republicans might have eliminated the tariffs.
No CEO is going to risk billions of dollars,
building a new plant, when Trumps tariffs could easily disappear half way through the build .
That’s what they mean by markets don’t like uncertainty, which is why they’ve been plummeting for months,u
They are in fact Trumps tariffs and Trump could be on the way out after Musks loss in Wisconsin yesterday, and losing a vote in the senate today over tariffs on Canada .
Hallelujah!

Here's the Truth on [L] Cowardly Carve out
https://www.afr.com/policy/economy/exporters-told-to-slow-down-or-face-t...
March 2019 : Trump invited Nations as Oz over 15 days to use Trading / security for exemptions.
AFR : Security partner Oz 'temporarily dodged' the tariff bullet for Now!
March 2018 : Oz dodgy reprieve came with a Warning not to significantly increase US Sales.
Typically greedy Lib Govt Mobsters snorted a 274% ramp from June/Sept 2018 > $52m > $231m

2019 Oz Libs were exploiting US Partners @ ridiculous 3x high export Volumes!
Smart arse Greedy Oz Libs fucked over the Yanks & they never forgave us...
Holding their grudge > paying big time in 2025
No Carve Out > just a slimy Greedy Liberal Pigs in Trough Rort that fucked Oz / US trade forever!
So much so Trump signals us out as Trade Traitors...
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/12/australia-killing-us-man...

Trump threatened greedy [L] Oz with tariffs!
Sept 2019 Scomo Warned & ordered Oz Companies to pull out or US market....
Fearing Trump's 25% Tariffs!
[L] literally carved Oz Aluminium / Steel outta US > [L] cowardly failed Backtrack stitch up all along...

Oz Companies claimed PM Scomo / Dept of Foreign Affairs ordered them to Back Off.
1. Must cancel all existing US Contracts (Now!)
2. Must Not resign existing Contracts with USA!
3. Redirect shipments to Countries such as Canada!

Fuck the dodgy [L] Carve Out...Show's over...we've been ordered out of US of A
Today Trump signals out Oz as being dodgy trade partners...all know why > Greedy Dodgy Libs!
Now we gotta pay big time across the board for another crooked [L] Trade rort Fuck Up.

Thankfully or gallantly Oz ALP forgives Creepy Dodgy [L] for fucking over partners US of A.
Sure...in return...Cowardly pathetic weasel Dutto will throw Albo under Trump's Gyno Bus.
Dutto alone will rise up to carve out Trump's Black Heart...Wot a fucking pissweak Unaustralian loser!

Today marks another 10% hit on all failed remaining Liberal Party US Trade Agreements...
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/apr/03/donald-trump-hits...
20 years of [L] < > US Free Trade agreements have failed > Torn up on the floor as worthless trash.
Dutto's Libs can't save a thing...can only make it worse...just STFU > [L] Done enough damage Mate!
100% of ALL [L] US deals / Weak pretend Carve Outs are more stinky.
Totally fraudulent to claim [L] can save just one US Trade Deal...all have miserably failed...(Fact!)

ALP never signed or breached any of these Oz [L] + US Republican Failed deals...
Can stack Howard / Hockey / Turnbull / Scomo / Dutto...It's all a Pile Of [L] Shit in a heap...
No matter what Dutto says...All Dodgy [L] Trade deals cred...lies dead on the floor!
Never was a carve out mate...all just the same failed Lib rort still playing out live today!

Today is a new day...
ALP being more trusted US trade Partners than them Dodgy [L] Crooks that rorted their #1 Mates.
Dutto & any Lib leader is long labelled least trusted as Oz weakest link in any future US Trade deal.
Just admit it...Greedy [L] blew the sweet deal & would do it again...can't help themselves!

Take that back tbb...
Ok! Here's an example of pure evil off the planet greed that even Trumps Oz Liberals
Gonna be hard to top this Trump Rort!

yeh you're right, but I did say... 'almost like a tariff'

the fruit bit is an interesting one...

you bloody well should in my book!

food miles... remember those?

a good and wholesome concept from my perspective, which is why I have no issue with tariffs, they have their place... which is why the whole world uses them...

so the trump meltdown is a bit bizarre

but then again, not really...

I stand by my 'whoop de do'

10% is fuck all, australians should get a grip - and albo should be more careful, rather than trying to be tough guy and cash in on what he sees as beneficial to him domestically...

you'd think he'd a learnt by now!

him and kevvy... the current US / oz contingent is a bit a fraught business...

on the converse, the china thing is nuts... up to 54%... imagine the likes of amazon adjusting to that...

seems Jeff bezos bum licking exercise came a little too little too late

Trump is isolating the US and heading towards a self contained sufficient economy, the only similar model being North Korea, where many people are starving .

If you compare all the economic indicators before the election , and now and the projections to recession/depression ,
I think I would take the Democrats whether they might be the answer or not.
Maybe after this Trump disaster, the Democrats will be a totally different party with different policies,
To generalise from the past , isn’t an accurate prediction of the future.
