It lost Shorten the unlosable election in my opinion.
People whose brain cells don’t quite gel are taken for a ride daily and they don’t question anything.
If you can claim ‘they’re eating the dogs etc etc’, as one example, and become the POTUS you must have some help.

This bloke sums exactly that up in a pretty reasonable fashion @seeds.

I doubt it affected the result in any significant way, but many on the left (not liberal, though maybe), didn't vote for this reason, and for left wing (not liberal) commentators/internet talking heads who have huge issues with the Democrats already, spoke at length about their disgust with Biden's handling of Gaza and the Democrats not holding Israel to account, and that was one reason they wouldn't be voting for Kamala, if they were already.

I was listening to veteran of the US Army Special Operations Command and anti-imperialist Greg Stoker a lot leading up to the election. To me, it sounded like he was cutting of his nose to spite his face by saying don't vote blue, cos not taking into account project 2025 and all the other shit he comes with, Trump was always gonna be worse for Palestinians. However, who am I to argue? He's smarter than I am.

Confusion, you’re stuck in extreme dichotomies. No one is saying that certain media didn’t help Trump. No one is saying that Musk didn’t have a huge influence through X. But people are saying that Biden’s/Democrats also had other issues that contributed towards Trump’s reelection. Fuck, they kept clearly ill Biden till literally the last second while lying to everyone that he is perfectly fine. They only moved him once it was 100% clear that Trump will win the election and that was too late. They had the biggest inflation in decades. They had conflicts popping out all over the place. Yes, not everything was fully under their control but regardless, your job is to fix it.
All these things are not mutually exclusive and they coexist in parallel. You calling everyone a Trump lover because they don’t fall into this view that media is the only reason Trump got elected is ridiculous.
Anyway, I don’t want to talk about the election anymore. It’s done and dusted, there are bigger issues to think about right now.

According to Fox , the crashing stock market, rising inflation and unemployment, and negative GDP growth are all Bidens fault,
Even though Trump took credit for the record stock market in Jan 2024 , because investors thought he was going to win the upcoming election.

I heard something the other day that in Trumps first term, there was something like 600 billion(someone check my maths) in fraud being spent in the US.
So kinda hard to put the blame on Biden when it was happening under his own administration in his first crack. But clearly it's all semantics. Biden is his response to anything and everything to keep attention away from his crooked ways.

As one of the few Seppos on here, you may have noticed that my theory is and has been that Trump supporters, by and large, aren't hopeful that he'll make their lives better, and instead they just want him to dish out the pain to...(Dems, immigrants, every other country in the world except Russia, etc etc) and a new poll today gives some confirmation.
The % of respondents who responed affirmatively to "Is the country headed in the right direction?" hit the highest number in 20 years.
His approval rating also hit an all-time high, at 47%.
At the same time, those polled are extremely negative about the economy, with only 18% rating it as excellent or good.

Reckon the US constitution being very tested here.
The Khalil case is ridiculous, but no one has stepped in to stop it.
Peaceful protest, freedom of speech etc etc.

Maybe Trump should organise for Muslims to maybe wear a badge, or something. A Star, na thst doesn'twork, or better maybe a crescent moon. Might not be too far off.

"More than 200 alleged Venezuelan gang members have been deported from the US to a supermax prison in El Salvador, even as a US judge blocked the removals."

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp9yv1gnzyvo

I recently heard one commentator mention that the real test for the US constitution will be what happens when a court blocks government policies but the government goes ahead and enacts the policy anyway and ignores the ruling. The question was, who enforces the judges decision? It will be interesting to see what happens next in this case.

@basesix "wish there was a @gsco type on here, who was to the right, but went on about the pillars.."

Putting on my conservative hat (picked up after it fell off greenrooms head when he was kow-towing to Douglas Murray ) I downloaded the Project 2025 dossier, I declined the invitation to give a donation though, and had a quick squizz and guess what? the rejig of the military they say needs doing fits in nicely with the ship building program VJ linked to as do the comments Hegarty recently made.

Also, Trump seems to be the only president actually taking a stance on the huge government debt, mind you, (hat's off now) it's hard to square that with his wanting to give away $4 trillion in tax cuts.

Heard another commentator explain that tax cuts take revenue from the government and the general population and give it to the wealthy. The government then needs to increase debt to cover the shortfall in revenue. The wealthy, looking for a relatively safe investment, buy that government debt and the interest they receive is paid for by the government and the general public (via loss of services, etc).

My knowledge of all these monetary and economic systems is very basic so I don't know if that is a fair explanation but (hat firmly back on) there is a nice symmetry at play, a sort of natural order to it all. No doubt there's plenty of other examples being enacted of late others can point too, but overall it's great to see Trump has a plan.

I see also that he recently proposed a stronger emphasis on religion to give people something to be hopeful about. What's the saying, religion is the opiate for the masses (or is that TV?) anyway, that idea is probably in The Dossier as well but I haven't read that far in yet

By the way, there's been some good reading in this thread of late and helpful explanations and articles being put up by crew, thanks

Don't forget his muti-million dollar, tax payer funded excursion to be the first sitting president to attend the Superbowl. Seems like an egregious waste to me. Where was Elon's chainsaw then? Opiate for the masses and bread (not eggs though) and circuses indeed.

@mick66 , thanks for your post . That survey is a bit disturbing if it’s the highest % in last 20 years believing the country is heading in the right direction . I can totally understand that there would be many that are fed up with the US trying to police the world and enter wars they shouldn’t have anything to do with , spending billions , yet at home there is a huge problem with homelessness , healthcare ect ect . Veterans going without while illegals rort the system would have been the last straw . I imagine many would have jumped on the “ America first “ slogan and be thinking “ it’s about fucking time “ I thought America was heading for civil war on Trumps first time around ,the division in people seemed enormous, covid might have disrupted that .
