Classic stuff Vlad,,
Here's Putin on conspiracies ..
"Sometimes I think, maybe it would be better for our bear to sit quiet, rather than chasing around the forest after piglets. To sit eating berries and honey instead. Maybe they will leave it in peace. They will not. Because they will always try to put him on a chain, and as soon as they succeed in doing so they tear out his fangs and his claws.

[Putin says that by fangs and claws he meant Russia's nuclear weapons. And the West wants to weaken Russia, he says, to win control over its rich natural resources.]

Once they've taken out his claws and his fangs, then the bear is no longer necessary. He'll become a stuffed animal."

America ….with friends like that who needs enemies?

Pretty crazy the amount of propaganda we are sold. Here’s an example: I came across this on YouTube yesterday. It’s strange watching it from the perspective that the people of Iraq did nothing wrong and the US ( and Australia) invaded them on a lie. On lots of lies actually. Consider the language used in the video and the reality that when the invaders are talking about insurgents, they are referring to people defending their homeland against invading foreign military. It’s pretty nuts. It’d be like China invading Australia and then putting out YouTube videos of how efficiently their military hardware killed any under equipped, yet extremely brave resistance.

Then you think that the Smithsonian has this image of unimpeachable credibility and integrity and you think ….is every institution I was taught to respect just another shitfight?

Imagine, just imagine, if the Vietnam war was based on an American fabrication and lie.

Imagine if the Iraq war was also based on an American WMD fabrication and lie.

...etc...etc...etc...

Now imagine if the China threat we're currently getting spammed by the media is an American fabrication and lie, simply because China won't cooperate with America and allow the opening up of its huge 1.4b population and consumer market to massive exploitation by American neoliberal capitalism and hence massive-scale transfer of wealth from the Chinese people to the wealthy American elite.

Imagine if most of what we think we know about the world around us actually came from the American lies machine, and we were too blind and stupid to question any of it because it was actually our only source of information and worldview.

Imagine if we just live inside one huge American echo chamber.

I've always thought of the Australian pm (all of them) as being a puppet with a US hand up their arse controlling what they do and say. Except KRudd, who announced that we should start to move away from the US and embrace our Asian neighbours. Not long after he was booted from the job, and replaced by Gillard. Who coincidentally was employed by some US firm while she was still pm, and then didn't even hang around for the election, she bailed the country before results were announced. Moved to the US for her job.

velocityjohnno that shadow stats link is interesting, thanks.

From https://www.longtermtrends.net/ :

US government debt relative to GDP is at an all-time high, currently roughly equal to ww2, which is a lot of debt relative to the size of the economy, and a mind boggling amount in absolute terms:

US real property prices are at an all-time high, and higher than the gfc, so the US is quite possibly in the biggest property price bubble in history:

The relative value of tech stocks (nasdaq) compared to the broader market (s&p500) is at an all-time high, and roughly the same as the previous tech bubble, so the US is quite possibly in the biggest tech bubble in history, again:

The market capitalisation of the broader share market (Wilshire 5000) relative to GDP is at a spectacular all-time high, dwarfing anything previously, so the US is probably more generally in the biggest share market bubble in history:

And from https://tradingeconomics.com/ , US inflation is the highest it's been in nearly 40 yrs:

So all that govt debt has fed straight into asset prices and inflation...

Cheers, it's really quite remarkable. When younger I learned the USEconomy is like a grand ship; it takes a great deal of time to slow or turn. Or sink, in this case. But also note with the high underutilisation they have enormous capacity to rebound, just like before WW2. For those of you loosely following (not investment advice), the RSI bearish divergences I was mentioning in one of the other threads, it's really quite cool, you can see the RSI diverging over a period of months beforehand (18 in 2008 on some sectors!) and it's like the oracle is calling out a catastrophe in the future, but you have no precise idea when, only that it is coming. The old method of Dow Theory also takes heed of the relationship between the Industrials and the Transports (relevant in our tech economy?) but the legend goes that they move in lock step when things are fine. So you watch for divergences here too. Oh man, tea leaves, I could go on all day...

In other news Chile has elected a 35 yo's socialist government so we get to see the eternal caravan of South American politics/misery play out once again:
Corrupt neocons ---->inequality and public anger ---> Marxists promise free stuff ---> economy collapses when nothing left to loot ---> conflict ---> dictator ---> he ages so opens up to democratic elections ---> corrupt neocons ---> inequality and public anger ---> Marxists promise free stuff. You are here.

"The legal path to investigate the leaders of the coup attempt is clear. The criminal code prohibits inciting an insurrection or “giving aid or comfort” to those who do, as well as conspiracy to forcibly “prevent, hinder or delay the execution of any law of the United States.” The code also makes it a crime to corruptly impede any official proceeding or deprive citizens of their constitutional right to vote.

Based purely on what we know today from news reports and the steady stream of revelations coming from the House select committee looking into the attack, the attorney general has a powerful justification for a robust and forceful investigation into the former president and his inner circle. As White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows was intimately involved in the effort to overturn the election. He traveled to Georgia last December, where he apparently laid the groundwork for the phone call in which the president pressured Georgia’s secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, to “find 11,780 votes.” Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio reportedly promoted a scheme to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to reject duly certified Joe Biden electors. And from their war room at the Willard Hotel, several members of the president’s inner circle hatched the legal strategy to overturn the results of the election.

Mr. Trump himself sat back for three hours while his chief of staff was barraged with messages from members of Congress and Fox News hosts pleading with him to have the president call off the armed mob whose violent passion he had inflamed. That evidence, on its own, may not be enough to convict Mr. Trump, but it is certainly enough to require a criminal investigation. "

blindboy Tuesday, 4 Jan 2022 at 11:33am

" One year after the smoke and broken glass, the mock gallows and the very real bloodshed of that awful day, it is tempting to look back and imagine that we can, in fact, simply look back. To imagine that what happened on Jan. 6, 2021 — a deadly riot at the seat of American government, incited by a defeated president amid a last-ditch effort to thwart the transfer of power to his successor — was horrifying but that it is in the past and that we as a nation have moved on.

This is an understandable impulse. After four years of chaos, cruelty and incompetence, culminating in a pandemic and the once-unthinkable trauma of Jan. 6, most Americans were desperate for some peace and quiet.

On the surface, we have achieved that. Our political life seems more or less normal these days, as the president pardons turkeys and Congress quarrels over spending bills. But peel back a layer, and things are far from normal. Jan. 6 is not in the past; it is every day.

It is regular citizens who threaten election officials and other public servants, who ask, “When can we use the guns?” and who vow to murder politicians who dare to vote their conscience. It is Republican lawmakers scrambling to make it harder for people to vote and easier to subvert their will if they do. It is Donald Trump who continues to stoke the flames of conflict with his rampant lies and limitless resentments and whose twisted version of reality still dominates one of the nation’s two major political parties.
In short, the Republic faces an existential threat from a movement that is openly contemptuous of democracy and has shown that it is willing to use violence to achieve its ends. No self-governing society can survive such a threat by denying that it exists. Rather, survival depends on looking back and forward at the same time.

Truly grappling with the threat ahead means taking full account of the terror of that day a year ago. Thanks largely to the dogged work of a bipartisan committee in the House of Representatives, this reckoning is underway. We know now that the violence and mayhem broadcast live around the world was only the most visible and visceral part of the effort to overturn the election. The effort extended all the way into the Oval Office, where Mr. Trump and his allies plotted a constitutional self-coup.

We know now that top Republican lawmakers and right-wing media figures privately understood how dangerous the riot was and pleaded with Mr. Trump to call a halt to it, even as they publicly pretended otherwise. We know now that those who may have critical information about the planning and execution of the attack are refusing to cooperate with Congress, even if it means being charged with criminal contempt."

civil war is already on isn't it?

a bit like the china war... just hasn't gone full kinetic yet... wars are just played out tech. driven and on technicalties now... until they're not...

"Biden was hoping to unite the people but all he’s done is divided them even more ."

this truly is hard to believe... not that it has happened, but that biden has done this...

he and his party, have truly made no effort whatsoever to unite the people, or even extend a tokenistic olive branch... they done the exact opposite actually... gone hard as on the litigious route, tech. control, and the technicalities, at every opportunity... which I've found very surprising, I honestly thought they would make at least some effort...

same goes for trump, he had a few opportunities, where he could have played it all a bit cooler, united the nation, and basically stole a significant portion of democrat voters, securing his party as leaders for many terms to come...

but he didn't either...

too much dark shit going on in the background

for either party to be the bigger entity and unite the nation

the civil war is well under way...

the only surprising thing, is the restraint the rogues from both sides have shown... which kinda shows the place is still functioning... just in that bizarro US extrene fashion it always has...

I never watched the US closely but did so for South American politics and travelling for a year soaking up the layers that created the mess that was SA governments.

"When, after 9/11, the neocons agitated for regime change in the Middle East, they believed that history was on their side: so they conjured up the existential threat of weapons of mass destruction, just in case history had other ideas. More than a decade later, this tactic has found favour with a wholly different tribe: America’s liberal establishment.

Just like the neocons before them, they are bewitched by the prospect of war with an enemy they believe poses a threat to their way of life. The only difference is that this deadly menace doesn’t live in some far-off land, but right at home. They might even live next door.

As The New York Times put it in an editorial last week, “the Republic faces an existential threat from a movement that is openly contemptuous of democracy and has shown that it is willing to use violence to achieve its ends”. And there is only one way to survive this threat: to “mobilise at every level”. The NYT was, of course, referring to the attack on the Capitol last January: “Jan. 6 is not in the past,” we’re warned. “It is every day”.

It is hard to exaggerate the feverish excitement with which many progressives responded to the Capitol riot. While the spectacle of hundreds of Trump supporters smashing their way into one of the sacrosanct sites of American democracy generated widespread condemnation, for many progressives the dominant emotional register was one of apocalyptic disgust — and arousal.

Here, finally, was irrefutable proof that they had been right all along: that Trump’s hateful rhetoric would finally become a hateful reality. Here, finally, was a war that could give their lives meaning. There were now Right-wing insurrectionists among them, and they would need to be fought. It was almost as if, on some deep level, they had wanted the Capitol siege to happen....'

Huh? Were the cops that got the shit beat out of them acting? The one that died? The ones that subsequently took their lives. Putting on a show?

Sometimes there just aren’t two sides to the story. You can’t be a clever devil’s advocate, you can’t look to be a unifier, see things from both sides - you’ve just got call shit out for what it is. Which is what the Dems, and the odd Republican, are doing.

If you insist on being generous, the best spin you could put on it is that it was riotous and violent criminal trespass. And it’s looking way more sinister than that, as investigations continue.

At the scene two women and two men all Trump supporters.

1. Ashli (unarmed and shot at point blank range)
2. Kevin- died of a heart attack.
3. Benjamin- died of a stroke.
4. Rossane- crushed by the crowd. (like the 8 crushed to death in that hip hop concert in November)

Police officer Brian, had a stroke the next day and also died.

And a couple of police also committed suicide in days to weeks after.

If you think the police committed suicide from that day, well imagine the number that have committed suicide from all the riots in 2020 and the campaign of hate towards police, wanting to defund them and paint them all as racist.

Imagine how much harder their jobs have gotten with the campaign of hate and the increase levels of stress and worry of being defunded, and then those that actually did lose their jobs due to defunding and the flow on effect to families of the police.

Here's the big difference champ. The BLM movement were protesting about unarmed black people being killed by cops at a very disproportional rate. The Jan 6 nutters were trying to stop the peaceful transition of power because they refused to accept the result of a democratic election.
I reckon I know which mob has a more reasonable cause, and I reckon I know which mob is a greater threat to democracy in the USA.
