This is a story of a man that I heard at his funeral some years ago. I had met this very humble peaceful man several times over a period of 30 years and he had always impressed me by his kindness.

As a boy he was put on a train to flee Austria for Britain just before the start of WW2. His family were concerned about the Nazis and had written to every British family with the same name pleading to take in their boy, finally they had found a family and he was sent off to Britain. On the day he boarded that train little did he or his family would know that it was the last time they would see each other, his entire family were lost in the death camps.

He settled in with his host family but as Germany edged closer to Britain it was decided to send the Jewish children who had escaped the Nazis to Australia, somewhere safer. So halfway across the Atlantic the rescue ship loaded with Jewish children was hit by a torpedo from a Uboat but it failed to detonate …. This man lived a full life here in Australia, marrying an equally peaceful woman and they raised two daughters. He disagreed with war and conflict of any sort, that became his faith, no matter the circumstances so there was much he disagreed with in the ME, on both sides. It is very very complicated

He claimed to have studied what has been written in the Christian bible , koran and tanakh and said they more or less predict the same thing . He spoke of the return of Jesus before 2033 to rule the world and that Islam would be the victorious. He agreed that the Gaza Strip is about to be flattened and he calmly excepted this because he believes it is all written . He also predicted the natural disasters that are occurring around the world will double every year from now on . At the end of the ride I just said, well I better get on with enjoying life then , he smiled and said “ yes good luck to all because we are not in charge.

Went over to the Times of Israel site to read the editorial and get the zeitgeist there, and whoa, this has really affected them. I'm seeing extreme alert and alarm, confounding themselves as being taken complacently, and an opinion piece of pure shock from an American Jewish girl that her fellow progressive civil rights advocates are all cheering Palestine which feels like betrayl. With the army mobilised, the level of bombing of Gaza and tacit approval from backers, it looks like they are going to continue to ramp. If they do go in, it will be completely horrible for both sides (Fallujah for example).

I found a couple of excellent Al Jazeera docs on previous conflicts (I thought balanced: interviewed veterans on both sides) and I'll put them up.

OK google maps and the ME coastline: how come the huge marina in Gaza has been made and appears to have accumulated sand - and the curve of the accumulated sand has created great A frames! How come we can't do that when we tamper with the coastline in Oz? Edit: that's on the south side, the sand. On the north side is horror sand stripping, leaving just a rocky shoreline - just like the sand starvation issues here.

Bonus easter egg hunt: I think I found the ME's skeleton bay. Can you find it?

We often hear about the 2 state solution between Israel and the Arabs.
Unfortunately even when it was first proposed in 1947 and Israel accepted the UN deal to have a lesser slice than the Arabs just to keep the peace and have a place back in their homeland , the Arabs said quote” no, and we will drive them into the sea”.
I found a great historical video on you tube that is well worth a watch. It takes Israel’s journey from WW2 to its statehood. Pretty graphic but a good history lesson and helps us all understand both sides of the story.
Look up…” The Miracle of Israel 1945-1948” on you tube.

And a bit more of the historical picture:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1936%E2%80%931939_Arab_revolt_in_Palestine

"World War I left Palestine, especially the countryside, deeply impoverished.[31] The Ottoman and then the Mandate authorities levied high taxes on farming and agricultural produce and during the 1920s and 1930s this together with a fall in prices, cheap imports, natural disasters and paltry harvests all contributed to the increasing indebtedness of the fellahin.[32] The rents paid by tenant fellah increased sharply, owing to increased population density, and growing transfer of land from Arabs to the Jewish settlement agencies, such as the Jewish National Fund, increased the number of fellahin evicted while also removing the land as a future source of livelihood.[33] By 1931 the 106,400 dunums of low-lying Category A farming land in Arab possession supported a farming population of 590,000 whereas the 102,000 dunums of such land in Jewish possession supported a farming population of only 50,000.[34] The late 1920s witnessed poor harvests, and the consequent immiseration grew even harsher with the onset of the Great Depression and the collapse of commodity prices.[13] The Shaw Commission in 1930 had identified the existence of a class of 'embittered landless people' as a contributory factor to the preceding 1929 disturbances,[35] and the problem of these 'landless' Arabs grew particularly grave after 1931, causing High Commissioner Wauchope to warn that this 'social peril ... would serve as a focus of discontent and might even result in serious disorders.'[35]

David Ben-Gurion told mourners at a funeral held on 20 April 1936 for nine victims of rioting in Jaffa the previous day that Jews would only be safe "in communities which are 100% Jewish and built on Jewish land."[36][37]
Economic factors played a major role in the outbreak of the Arab revolt.[14] Palestine's fellahin, the country's peasant farmers, made up over two-thirds of the indigenous Arab population and from the 1920s onwards they were pushed off the land in increasingly large numbers into urban environments where they often encountered only poverty and social marginalisation.[14] Many were crowded into shanty towns in Jaffa and Haifa where some found succour and encouragement in the teachings of the charismatic preacher Izz ad-Din al-Qassam who worked among the poor in Haifa.[14] The revolt was thus a popular uprising that produced its own leaders and developed into a national revolt.[14]"

It seems that many Palestinians were farmers who were overly taxed by the Ottomans, and then the British mandate. Increasing Jewish settlement in Palestine saw much of the productive land purchased off the Palestinians who were left to accumulate in urban areas and work for wages. Commodities prices falling in the 1920s and 30s added to tension.

Ray Dalio's take:

Another Step Toward International War

"...we should recognize that these two hot wars (the Israel-Hamas war and the Russia-Ukraine war) are not just between the parties directly involved in them—these wars are part of the bigger great power conflicts to shape the new world order..."

China, Russia, Iran, etc, smell US weakness, particularly political, economic/financial and social, and are now testing the waters.

These countries will not stop until the US's global hegemony is displaced for good; it's their sole objective.

Ha ha Udo you are really throwing a cat amongst the pigeons throwing Avi in the mix.

I saw he flew over there, i havent even watched the video yet, and im sure his take on thing's will be heavily bias being a Israeli Jew who has served in the forces, but still its going to be very interesting to actually get view's from everyday Israeli people.

Hope he provides an insight for a decent period of time.

Edit: watched it, whoah strong women....

I hope he is able to speak to some Arab/Palestine people in Israel and get their views too, but im not sure if they would want to talk on camera.

IMHO this type of reporting allowing everyday people living these thing's a voice though is ten times better than mainstream media.

Ha ha yeah well that obviously aint going to happen, even before hand my understanding is Israeli jews would probably be killed in Gaza, while in Israel Palestine people or others of any ethnicity & faith live side by side even friends but yes of course also often dispute's.

Apparently this was also once the case in Gaza before Hamas rule, one podcast i listened to was told by an Israeli women who played with Palestine kids as a child and misses those friendship's and hopes one day she can see her friend's again.

@Fliplid

You are tripping, you people need to stop thinking im your enemy or some BS because my views vary to yours, nobody says or think's it entertainment, i had only seen a video of Avi arriving in Israel , but i wouldn't dare post an Avi video here, me doing so would trigger everyone, hence my comment reply to Udo...nothing more thats it.

“When the curtain is pulled away to reveal the violence that upholds israel’s existence, there is an understanding from the united states of the ‘necessity’ of this violence. Because israeli violence is necessary to protect israel from threats to its ‘exceptional existence’.
Just as american violence is necessary to protect the united states from threats to its exceptional existence.

How israel is covered in the US news, and popular media, serves to obscure the biggest thing that ties the united states and israel together - they’re both settler colonial states which have been built on the displacement and ethnic cleansing of other peoples.”

The whole situation is fucked and the best response I've heard so far from politicians is a call for restraint to try and stop this from escalating. There's grievances on both sides but from what I see, videos like Avi's are geared to stir up discontent

By the way, I've got no issue about your opinions, some align with mine others don't, one of my best mates is an old school timber cutter here Qld and his views make you look like a lefty, so I'll be the last person to bag you about what you say

Ray didn't mention the coups toppling France/West-friendly rulers in sub Saharan Africa. Guess who is supporting the coups?

This is a new cold war, make no mistake about it. The 'evil empire' put on new clothes, but it's motivations are the same. All over the periphery of the world-continent, the fires of wars are being started and you betcha they are proxy. On both sides, no-one has enough munitions and artillery production... yet. Australia has decimated its manufacturing capacity in the last 20 years - what are we gonna fire back? Episodes of the Block?
