Vids other than surfing thread (cool doccos, movies etc)
Melbourne in the early '90s around the top end of the city and also St Kilda, there'd always be a few people on the nod, but that Philadelphia video is something else entirely.
After watching groups of friends waste away, the thought of that happening in Australia is all too believable.
The war on drugs, thanks to tricky Dicky (et al.)
Driving around LA is a shock for a naïve Aussie. In my limited experience. Seems like a tent city under every bridge. And that's north of the 10...

I think that crew need to get out more if they think that parts of Australia don’t look identical to this. The problem might be piss instead of crystals still same same.
I’ve seen that stuff many, many times. Halls Creek. Fitzroy Crossing. Hedland. Broome. Kununurra etc etc.
Yep, a night at Fitzroy Crossing is something to remember. Will never forget the constant wail.
Finished season seven Alone. Excellent. Thanks for the recommendation. The character and personal philosophies of the competitors rivals their physical survival skills for admiration when we watched it. Indefatigable positivity and stoicism. Really enjoyed it.
Yeah, season seven is an epic.
Finished the second episode of season 7 last night.
Wolves are epic looking things aren’t they

Living with yourself starring Paul Rudd ( Netflix) is worth watching. 10 half hour episodes. I don’t mind Paul Rudd’s character type of the affable Everyman and he plays this strengths in this unique and interesting tale.
it's mad how hard-core they all are.
I whinge when I have to spend a few hours cutting up a jewie in car-port late at night.
Anyone got any recommendations? Hankering to binge something excellent.
Here's a man with his own incredible story telling another incredible story.
Nightmare.
These guys know how to do a riot. Amazing doco
I’m a few episodes into Morning Wars and loving it. I wasn’t that sold on the premise but it’s far exceeded any expectations I had. The writing is really good. Self aware, cutting and clever. The show is smart enough to give the topics it builds off of a nice heaping of nuance.
It’s a bit like a morning TV version of Game of Thrones if you’ll forgive me the most tortured comparison ever. The plot moves quickly and characters jostle for supremacy. Fortunes can change in an instant.
It’s just a show so don’t expect sizzling fireworks shooting out of Reese Witherspoon’s hoo-hoo but I’d recommend a viewing no problems.
Thanks Blowin,
Need something a bit different from my current diet of violent drug cartel shennanigans.
Two Aussie productions for you Blowin.
Mr In Between. Crime drama / comedy. Good array of aussie talent in the line up.
Wakefield. Based on a mental health hospital. Few twists and turns to keep punters interested.
Thanks very much. I’ll check them out.
Sunday Afternoon Cartoons! Yay!
This tip comes from my kids, with the sobering byline: "If you don't know who these characters are, you had a good childhood."
One of the many privileges of grand-parenting is having an excuse to watch the cartoons.
Not this one BB, just not this one...
Ha ha! My grand-chidren are aged 24 and 17.
Ah, they were probably exposed the first time around then. Our eldest said when they were 8 or 9, all the school computers were playing this. I was off at work, none the wiser
Ah yes the digital revolution whose symbol in most schools was that endlessly rotating little wheel you get waiting for things to load
Catch-22 on Stan is seriously good. The book was a classic and this series really does it justice. Great cast, (George Clooney, Hugh Laurie etc) script by Luke Davies (author of Candy). A fine selection of period music. Hint: It's been around for a while so you will have to search for it........AND...I think you can still get a free 30 day trial!

Roger that Major Major Major .....
Indo, check out the movie. It’s Australian and covers a true event/real crime family.
I give no spoilers.
The Trial Of The Chicago Seven - Netflix.
An inspired piece of casting with Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman. And if you don't know who he is......you really should watch it.
"The Trial Of The Chicago Seven - Netflix."
Totally agree. If you're a Sorkin fan, there's a nugget in every chunk of dialogue. Very funny too - the bizarre decrees of the other Hofmann!
A good companion piece is the documentary 'Black Panthers' on SBS On Demand which uses great primary source interviews to dive into all the contradictions of The Panthers.
Someone in America needs to pick up where Fred Hampton left off, and with Sirhan Sirhan looking like he might get parole, when I watch stuff from this remarkable period, I always wonder what if...
'Selma' is another excellent Civil Rights era flick. I knew absolutely nothing about this particular event, so for me it was the perfect fact based movie, engrossing, instructive and uplifting. My lack of knowledge also made this movie the one that's come the closest to shocking me into a heart attack!
Yeh I watched that Roker. Really interesting. I think.there was another one which was a bio of MalcolmX. There are so many fascinating stories from that era. One thing that is not widely known is that the 1964 civil rights act would not have been passed without the assassination of JFK. He has proposed it before he died and LBJ used the emotions around his death to force it through knowing the Republicans could not be seen to oppose it.
Anyone watched Squid Game yet?
As good as tv gets for me…
Watch in Korean with a English subtitles
So many social and philosophical inferences and more satirical than you might expect. Excellent
Yep. Watching episode 7 now.
Enjoying it.
The main character looks like Jordy Smith.
One to watch - or not - if you live around Bairnsdale and reckon the Mitchell River should be dammed. Or should that be damned?
Les Revenants (The Returned) is a slow burn zombie series from France. Genuinely creepy, stunning and eerie cinematography, and excellent performances. Lots of grieving around, but it’s a theme that’s beautifully explored, never mawkish.
Dead people return to life and come back to their village that rests on the banks of a big dam/hydro electric scheme, in the French Alps. The dam level starts inexplicably declining, relics from the flooded old village start appearing, and the lake starts coughing up dead animals.
The period just prior to the flooding of the valley is often referred to, so one naturally wonders if this manipulation of nature has provoked the unnatural resurrections.
Like a lot of these series that deal with the supernatural, the dénouement is somewhat vague and elusive, but it’s a great ride getting there.
Now that's a hail storm... https://www.facebook.com/799102983777114/videos/282194807096649
It’s a shame Johnny’s not around in the COVID times to give us the facts. Talent thwarted in the analogue age. Fact.
David Thewlis in Mike Leigh’s ‘Naked’.
Brilliant! And why am I not surprised?

Indonesia is full of so many contradictions in so many different ways but this place takes the cake.
