gragagan - My favourite video of the year .
Thanks so much for posting .
It makes me miss my old dog .
No worries :).
I don't normally watch videos like this, I'm normally more of a 'dog-fail' type video person, for a laugh. Maybe something to do with getting my 2nd vax earlier in the day, left me all emotional haha.
Finally finished season 7 of Alone. Geez the winner is a hard core maniac, actually they all were but the winner was next level.
All the competitors knowledge of surviving in the outdoors was incredible.
And towards the end I couldn't even imagine what that type of cold feels like, and still having to hunt, fish, gather fire wood out in it all.
Cant wait for the next one.
Yep, agree. Bloody hard core. Saw Alone recommended here a little while ago and gave it a go. Started at season 7. I was staying up well past my bed time to get my fix.
If you haven’t seen the Australian movie Dingo I recommend it . Great scenery and a really good story. Never been into jazz music but Miles Davis is fantastic in this .

Thanks for that link , good to read the background of the film , unbelievable it never made real money or got the deserved recognition. Fantastic music
Turned on SBS world movies last week and Lion was just starting. Never heard of it before and glad I watched. Amazing story that I didn’t realise was a true one until the end. Acting from a kid this young was incredible considering he didn’t say much but facial expressions said it all . Brought a tear to my eye .
Yeah its a very moving movie SF, you are not the only one with wet eyes
+1 yes good movie and also made me cry at the end
Watched 10 Canoes last night.Epic!
Good one Troppo, I agree epic movie
Not knowing where i should put this ill just put it in here-
Fark, that’s grim. I think we need to lighten up a bit.
Haha, I love that show.
I like the sketches this guy does:
My favourite show blackers
Emptied the clip, "evil can never be dead enough"
Would have loved to have gone to the movies to check out a couple of the cinema releases, but with the risk of getting thrown in the cooler for 10 or so days, had blockbuster Boxing Day at home.
One of the recent releases I watched was 'Don’t Look Up', on Netflix.
From what I’d read, most of the critics had given it the thumbs down. Threadbare characters who achieve zero or bugger all character development, how can you give Meryl Streep so little to work with, smacks of smug elitism, swipes at too many targets to have any impact, misses all its targets, won’t change a single opinion, comet is a badly chosen metaphor, it’s purely US/Western culture focused, etc.
Hard to outright dismiss all that I suppose. But, nah. If you happen to think a movie should set out to entertain – and are less concerned about the merits of right-minded browbeating didacticism - well, this one is wickedly entertaining. And hilarious. Sure, most of the characters might be little more than caricatures, but they are instantly recognisable as both the architects and the products of the tech developed dystopian dumbed down celebrity obsessed version of hell that we’re in.
The chemistry between Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry as morning TV show hosts is so cringingly accurate they could seamlessly step into an alternate career. Ron Perlman as an all American gung-ho pilot with an anachronistic worldview is laugh out loud funny. Meryl Streep isn’t going to win another Oscar here, but her portrayal of a celebrity President purely focused on politics is a delight. To reference but a few of the winning array of funny as fuck lowbrow cardboard cut-outs.
Almost however you view climate change - whether it’s real, the science, its consequences, how to respond, how it sits in the culture wars, whatever side of the culture wars you’re on, how to portray climate change to the public via the media, should you portray ‘both sides’ - this movie has you in its sights. Probably why a certain section of the media seem to particularly loathe it. The progressive liberal media being flayed by one of their own, or at least a natural Hollywood ally, is simply too much to tolerate. One is simply unable to have the piss taken out of oneself.
And I’m not entirely convinced about the vapid character criticism either. The story is told primarily from the point of view of the hapless astronomers, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, who discover a world-destroying comet is on a collision course with earth. Both actors put in engaging performances, their respective characters have solid enough arcs, and end up arriving at a satisfying and perhaps unlikely place as the movie hurtles towards its crescendo.
On the back of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', DiCaprio appears to be making a great success of his middle career, deftly portraying men who suddenly realise they are lost as they reach middle age, and who have to again figure out their place in the world – in this case a world whose destruction seems imminent.
Don’t Look Up might well amount to little more than Adam Mckay and his band of billionaire Hollywood elites cynically shitting on all and sundry from the vantage of their guarded gated compounds – but so what? It’s a hell of a funny ride - and one no worse for being likely best enjoyed by those whose idea of funny is coloured by a touch of misanthropy.
The Mauritanian on Prime is pretty good.
A bit more eye opening stuff about the steadfast commitment to human rights as shown by the USA.
Particularly as Biden is Vice President during the second half of the fella’s experience and Liz Cheney’s dad is one of the main players ( though not mentioned).

Excellent review Roker, and I agree it was well worth the watch. Did you keep watching through the credits for one final bonus laugh?
Took the kids to the cinema.
Didn't think they'd like The Matrix Resurrections, so we saw Clifford the Big Red Dog.
It was actually alright.
The End.

Missed this review by Roker. Great work mate. Cheers
Great revlew Roker. I reckon you read like a professional journo- great stuff.
For the record, I really enjoyed it.
I watched the Sandra Bullock one the night before. The Unforgiveable or something like that. I thought she was excellent in it.
I enjoyed your review Roker but couldn't watch more than 20 minutes of the film.

The better option to be honest, Matrix is shiiiiit.
I’m a few episodes into Dopesick on Disney and can highly recommend it. It’s a classic US David vs Goliath tale of a few individual investigators taking on the systemic corruption of the corporate/ institutional symbiosis so sadly common throughout the modern neoliberal world, which has its true spiritual home in America. Think a Big Pharmaceutical equivalent of Darkwater or Erin Brockovich . Stunning reveal of the opioid epidemic in the US and the complicity of the US government.
A timely narrative to keep in mind during the current era of societal vulnerability to the malevolent pharmaceutical industry. More people have died from the government overseen opioid epidemic than from Covid, yet the same industry and institutions responsible for the opioid crisis are now exempt from liability and true scrutiny of their behaviour is condemned as the actions of tin hat wearing, conspiracy addled dissidents.
Get into it!
Michael Keating is pretty good as always. He’s come a long way since his brainstorming theory of feeding mayonnaise to the tuna fish in Night Shift.
Sounds great.
On the subject, this looks pretty complicated - but it seems a recent federal court judgement will delay the payouts pharmaceutical companies will have to make in the wake of hundreds of class actions brought against them. But will likely mean that the Sacklers will be personally liable, and will have to cough up more of the billions that they siphoned out of Purdue into their personal accounts over the last decade or so, since the extent of their role in encouraging the opioid epidemic became clear.

I enjoyed watching ‘Don’t look up.’ Roker’s review nails it, great work, sir.
Not enjoying living through it as much. I get the feeling that the world will be going full steam ahead on emissions controls by 2030. It’s going to be one hot decade if recent events aren’t some weird blip. We’re going to see some pretty funky weather events over the next decade.
Stumbled across Straight Outta Compton on Netflix the other night... which then led into the four part series The Defiant Ones.
Gotta say Straight Outta Compton really opened my eyes as to the scope of everything underpinning the gangsta rap scene... a truly incredible story. I've never had an interest in this kinda music before but now it all makes a lotta sense.
And as for The Defiant Ones... amazingly, I'd never really heard of Jimmy Iovine before, even though he's produced a lot of great records I know intimately.
Late night viewing
Did you watch 'What becomes of the broken hearted'?
Brilliant sequel to Once were Warriors.
Loving Life.....after Death
Watched The Dry a few nights back (adaptation of Jane Harper's excellent book). Pretty good all round. Haven't seen Eric Bana on the screen for a while either.
Interesting tid bit: Ellie is played by Bebe Bettencourt, who's the daughter of Suze DeMarchi, from early 90's band Baby Animals.
I thought that was a great movie Ben. Eric is a suprise in a serious role. Love the scenery etc also. Have done a lot of outback travel and I love the Aussie bush

I’d love to see this. Going to snoop around for it
Goof, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's almost better than Once were Warriors.
Powerful stuff.
Ripper
Here's the trailer Goof. The full movie is on Youtube.

Yeah seeds I’ve watched it on iview. It’s bloody great. A real feel good show.
We’ve got a Kelpie rescued off a farm because she’s missed the training opportunities when she was a pup. She was just over one when we got her and they said they just didn’t have enough work for her and the other dogs in the litter so she fell further behind in the training.
It’s awesome to see what an amazing job those trainers do with the pups. Kelpies are just awesome. So loyal, so smart, but really independent. Ours is great with the kids now (she’s 2 and a half) but was a bit of a handful at first.
Awesome Etarip. You can really see the intelligence in there eyes on that series. Great nature also when trained. Beautiful dogs
Look forward to watching this one seeds cheers
Yeah Muster Dogs was awesome! Can definitely see similar traits in my Kelpie. Smart dogs alright.
Big dog swims by a boat. Girl screams.

scary from a boat also...and those ocean swimmers still ocean swim.
Indonesia is full of so many contradictions in so many different ways but this place takes the cake.
