groundswell wrote:All it takes to pick up in maluk is to turn up at the beach with a brand new motor bike (rental or owned) and girls will come up to you. that happened to me i turned up at the beach on a new motorbike and a couple of hotties talking to locals walked up to me to check out my bike, i said "do you wanna watch a movie at my place?" they said sure.
both jumped on the back of my bike and i chased some wild pigs on the way home only 500 metres away was where i lived. anyway got home and put on a movie, had no seats or anything in my place just a couple of mattresses got stuck into one of the girls fingering while the other one watched then some neighbors started watching outside my apartment both girls got scared off by the neighbors watching...but that's how easy it was to pick up...just have a new bike and fresh tan and girls love you for it.
Even just carrying a surfboard to the surf spots will get you a girls number or two.
Would have been girls from Java or other Islands working as freelance hookers to service the local miners in the area hence why so carefree, local girls would never do that, it would bring huge shame on the family if rumours came about it in the community and locals could seriously come with you with a lynch mob if did that to a local girl even with consent, beach is most likely a pick up point for freelancers, they may or may not have wanted money latter if continued some of these girls are just happy to be with a westerner because find most of us attractive and exotic or because have money and would dream of becoming your girlfriend (not the kind of Indo girl you want to get involved with though)
These girls i guess are technically hookers but it's not a career choice, it's more something most do for a year or two then make money and go home to the village in Java cashed up to buy a home or start a business etc, they generally tell the family they have a job in Bali in tourism to cover their arse.
Its like in Bali nightclubs its rare to come across Balinese girls most are from Java a few from other islands, lot of well off girls from Jakarta on holiday these days but a lot of girls are just there to hook up with foreigners for money. (but often if like you won't even ask for money)
BTW. the tan would be irrelevant Indo girls generally love the opposite of brown skin, most love white skin, bigger noses, eye colours other than black or brown a big plus same with hair colour other than black, boards and bike would hurt though. (BTW. they still love westerners with black hair and brown eyes or a tan too)
PS. Just for the record no my wife was not one of these girls, she still lived at home(good family) when i met her and worked as a radio presenter and had never drunk or even been to a nightclub and never been to Bali or even been on a plane.
But yes when i was young i hooked up with lots of these girls, but i soon realised it was also easy and a lot more fun to hook up with the girls on holiday from Jakarta, actually I learnt a lot of Bahasa Indonesia from these girls, most are really cool chicks, occasionally there is the dodgy one though who tries to rip a foreigner off. (Etc steal money from wallet when asleep)
Saw a good doco about the early years of Subpop on SBS recently. These guys got a few mentions.
Cool, love 'em
Have you heard the gits blackers? There's a good doco about them and the tragedy that befell them.
7 year bitch. They wrote this song about Mia Zapata, the gits singer.
Selene Vigil from 7 year bitch with alcohol funnycar.
I thought the gits movie was on youtube but could only find trailers.
Thanx for the tip blackers...been on SBS lately but clear missed that...be worth checking out...
1st gen Boomers Protest Song is perfect for current climate apart from the fact it's a Leftie Classic...doh!

Live Versions
1963 Australian "Leftie" Tour
1963 March on Washington (Peter Paul & Mary)
tbb is cuing the '62 Vinyl Version > Concerts were great, but were geared for speeches...less so song!
This version has Back Story + Click [Show more] for Lyrics > (Sucker for a Lazy lounge version set-up!)
Just to be clear...the Left Folkie was fine with Swingin' Hit Version...no injustice upon Commie Mantra.
tbb thinks the warm, safe & secure Female vocal ups to the Punk level...(Oh! I think she's being serious!)
1962 Peter Paul & Mary (Edit) World grew to love this Version. + ( 2004 Remaster is a bit too bossy )
Thanks Patrick, something to explore. Dig that Second Skin track, great drums. And Alcohol Funnycar is up there with the best ever band names.
Here’s a link for you TBB.

(Much better than showing hard ons for some love)
And now it is time for some seasonal tunes...
The muffs, north pole
Wholesome
Voices that could melt snow hearts
But I think they just assumed the snow person's gender... we might be dealing with redneck bigots here... :(
Or voices to freeze them?
This is a fine xmas tune.
Christmas, good times spent with your family. Or not.
“Some families are messed up and others are fine. If you think yours is crazy then you ought a see mine”
Good one blackers - Gets like that at ours sometimes.
merry crassness....wait for it.
Well that covered all the bases chook, but not sure the payoff was worth the wait.
yeah, I did oversell it blackers. the fun is to have the parents and grandparents humming along to the record...and then the end kicks in.

Cheers Patrick, I have watched bits and pieces of that before, really interesting..
Keeping in line with Dolly, this one is more gentle.

Good one Blackers. Heard this for the first time on JJJ yesterday. It's Doctor Karls number 1 pick for the hot 100. The video compliments the song too - but not a Chaise Lounge to be seen. Fun one for summer, but don't see much longevity for this song.
Here's a recent ear worm I came across - also on JJJ. Video not as good as above but I like the song
Happy New Year crew.

Tomorrow Calling... by Bryan Ferry
Tomorrow's Girls...by UK Subs
When Tomorrow Comes...by Annie Lennox
A tune Goodvibes would approve of.
Smart edit Connie, good groove too.
A newish tune from the old dart.
Fark, how young does Paul Heaton look in that. Great album that.
Friday toons, iso blues
Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
