Recap
Monday afternoon’s increase in swell eased back from a slower 2ft yesterday morning with clean conditions while today we’ve got building levels of mid-period swell that’s now a wind affected 4ft across Clifton.
This week and weekend (Jun 13 - 16)
Today’s local increase in swell will be replaced by some stronger mid-period S/SW energy tomorrow, generated by the earlier stages of the polar frontal system that has pushed up and into us today.
Good 4ft+ sets are due across Clifton tomorrow, then easing back from 3-4ft on Friday thanks to a small trailing front moving through our swell window today and tomorrow.
Local conditions look better tomorrow with a morning W/NW breeze, shifting SW into the afternoon while Friday looks dicey as a low forming to our east starts to shift back west towards us, bringing S/SE winds. There’s a chance for early variable conditons so keep an eye on the local wind observations and cams for a window.
Unfortunately as the low moves back west and strengthens, we’ll see strong S-S/SW winds developing across the region, starting Saturday and persisting through Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. They even may hold from the SW on Wednesday but we’ll have a closer look at this on Friday.
Swell wise, the low will project a fetch of strong to gale-force E/SE-SE winds right into us on the weekend, generating a large SE groundswell for Sunday coming in around the 6ft range, easing slowly into Monday and further next week while tending more S/SE.
Further down Storm Bay expect larger surf with smaller waves towards eastern ends.
Longer term there’s nothing significant on the cards so try and work the coming swells.
