Eastern Tasmanian Forecast by Steve Shearer (issued Fri Dec 6th)

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Tiny NE swells Sat with var. tending NW/SW winds around a trough
  • Small bump in S swell Sun with fresh/gusty W’ly winds
  • Surf easing Mon with W’ly win
  • Small swells next week, possible bump in NE swell next weekend

Recap

Swells from the E/NE-NE have hung in there in the 1-2ft range under light winds. Today we are seeing light NW winds shift S/SE.

This weekend and next week (Dec4- Dec13)

No change to the weekend f/cast we’ll see variable winds early Sat morning around a trough before winds shift NW/SW in advance of a front. Only small E/NE swells to 1-2ft which may supply a just rideable wave.

The front pushes through o/night with fresh and gusty W’ly winds on Sun and tiny surf from the E/NE, with a minor increase in S swell to 2-3ft in the a’noon in the wake of the front.

Source of small S swell wrap on Sun

High pressure moves NE into the Tasman on Mon with a weakening W’ly flow across Tasmania and no real swells to speak of. Minor S and E/NE swells add up to 1ft or so, just above flat.

Similar on Tues with just a fraction more NE windswell in the a’noon.

There’s really nothing of interest at all next week with surf remaining tiny right into next weekend.

We may see some small NE windswell develop next weekend in advance of a trough, lets see how that looks on Mon, we’re not talking anything more than 2ft surf at this stage.

Other than that, models are all over the place in the week before Xmas due to continuing troughiness in the Tasman Sea.

We’ll see what they come up with on Mon.

Seeya then and have a great weekend!
