Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thu 10th Jul)

Best Days: Every day over the coming period besides next Wednesday

This week and weekend (Jul 10 - 13)

A low point in swell was seen this morning, but a large pulse of S/SW groundswell should now be filling in across Bali, with exposed spots expected to reach 10ft to occasionally 12ft later this evening.

A peak in size is due overnight, but tomorrow morning should yield similar size waves before dropping through the day and further Saturday from 6ft to occasionally 8ft and with a low point due Sunday.

Weak E/SE trades are due over the coming days with variable winds likely early each morning up until mid next week when they'll freshen up again.

Next Monday onwards (Jul 14 onwards)

A slight kick in reinforcing S/SW groundswell is due later Sunday but more so Monday morning although not to any real major size. It should just keep exposed spots around Bali topped up with 6ft sets most of Monday before dipping back through Tuesday.

Of greater importance is the development of yet another large S/SW groundswell for Thursday and Friday next week. How many of these swells have we had for the end of the week, it seems like it's been non stop for the past few months.

Back to the swell though, and an amplification of the Long Wave Trough moving through the Southern Indian Ocean will project two vigorous polar fronts up from the south-east of South Africa, up towards us and over Heard Island into tomorrow and the weekend before tracking westerly across to Western Australia.

A large S/SW groundswell will result, with the forerunners arriving later Wednesday ahead of the bulk through Thursday, peaking later in the day or overnight.

Size wise we're probably looking at another 10ft to occasionally 12ft swell at exposed breaks, but we'll continue to follow this over the coming days. Winds look to be generally moderate from the E/SE, but we may see some funkier but light NE winds developing into next Friday.
