Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Tue 8th Jul)

Best Days: Every day over the coming period, but only for experienced surfers Thursday arvo through Saturday morning

This week (Jul 8 - 11)

A solid pulse of SW groundswell should of filled in yesterday and peaked through the afternoon, with a drop in size due through today around Bali. A reinforcing S/SW groundswell should hold wave heights up into this afternoon and tomorrow morning, with exposed spots not expected to drop below 6ft+. Trades are also expected to weaken this evening with variable winds likely each morning from tomorrow through the rest of the period.

A very temporary low point in swell activity is due through Thursday morning ahead of large pulse of S/SW groundswell through the day.

The size of this S/SW groundswell has been upgraded since last Thursday with the polar front responsible, pushing up towards WA under the influence of the Long Wave Trough with more strength than initially forecast.

We're now expected to see large 10ft to occasionally 12ft surf developing across exposed breaks around Bali into the late afternoon. The extra southerly direction of the swell should also help it get into more east facing breaks.

A peak in size is due overnight with gradual drop in size due into Friday from 10ft to occasionally 12ft at dawn, down through the day and further Saturday.

This weekend onwards (Jul 12 onwards)

As touched on above Saturday will see easing swells, but come later Sunday and more so Monday, a new long-range S/SW groundswell is due to fill in and peak Monday morning.

This swell is being produced late in our swell window to the south-west of WA and won't offer any major size besides pulsing exposed spots back to 5-6ft+ Monday morning.

Longer term there's nothing major on the cards until later in the week, with wave heights expected to bottom out into Wednesday.

Into the end of the week though a new large SW groundswell is on the cards, but more on this Thursday.

Theres article on surfline the mechanics of padang padang most interesting is the bathymetry . I reckon swellnet should do somthing like that for Australian waves . Makes me think this swell might be too south direction for the contest udo . Got any updates about that ?

Yeah they do those articles really well don't they Camel. We'd love to but we'd need a few more resources to do them well.

I'm also with you, the swell will probably be too south for the Padang Cup. Needs more west to get in with size.

Yep, that's the one Ben has, it's realtively cheap and in App form, but there other more expensive and higher resolution data sets available also.
