Watch: Cyclone OmaGod
Highlight of the swell? Well, keep in mind I didn't surf a single wave from Oma, but I can boil my highlight down to two seconds.
It's Parko, after getting spat out of the second barrel at Kirra while riding from the mid-point of an Ian Byrne three-stringer singley he recently won, fades down, stalls by way of an extended bottom turn, and then casually brings it back around for his third barrel of the wave. See it in the video below around the 50 second mark.
Plenty of other moments to choose from, and not just in this video, Jack's Burleigh barrel, Mick and Parko doing Shaun and MR, Asher at Noosa, Damon Harvey at Currumbin...but still, gimme those two seconds of Parko.

I'm right there with you on that, to be honest. After watching that wave live it got me thinking about those defining moments in a surfing life. We've all got our own, and can probably think of some big ones that shaped and defined the careers of many pro's, as well. Entire sessions, rides, or even single turns that captured the essence of a surfer, or announced their future trajectory.
The TC snap, Curren's sticker-less Backdoor cutback, Mick's session at Lennox on '01. AI's Eddie shorebreak heroics, Mark Healey staring down a monster at Cloudbreak - just to name a few.
Immediately after seeing Joel's effortless ride, I wondered if this was a moment that would predict what we'll be seeing from him in years to come. It was the same style we've loved for decades, but it had something else in it as well - in the choice of board, and the simplicity of the line: Freedom.
He might've always been Free as a Dog, but now he was fully unleashed, and my god was it a pleasure to watch!
Nicely put, mate.
well said.
Yep he looks like he is doing it in his sleep with style. Pleasure to watch.
Pardon my Ignorance... Song title?
Found it: The First Vietnamese War, The Black Angels.

Close ... sounds like it is The First Vietnamese War, The Black Angels.
Lovely bottom turn in that second, lovely riding style. That stance suits those boards when down the line.
Notice how he grabs the inside rail? When's the last time you saw someone do that at the bottom of a wave?
Which will we see first ?
The fag end of the endless Oma highlights edits or the bedrock bottom of the deep river of Oma puns from which Stunet has been dipping ?
Funny thing is, before this system was classified as a TC, we looked up its likely name (they're decided in advance by the relevant authority), and saw it was to be called TC Oma.
Then, for about fifteen minutes the Swellnet office collectively guffawed at all of the possible angles: TC OMG, TC OmaGod, TC OmagonnadowhatIwant, etc.
We then made an executive decision not to resort to such cheap monikers, deciding that they looked pretty silly.
Unfortunately, we quickly ran out adjectives and titles for the never-ending stream of content.
And here we are!
I've omadosed on bad puns.
what ever you do dont go into a coma.....
It's been omageddon south of byron to at least coffs.
Wow. Surprised I haven't seen that one used anywhere yet.
I thought you might have used it for Friday's notes.
We did a focus group study and they recommended in the negative.
He was meant to, it was just an omasight
It’s not even 6:00am, surely too early for this.
Parkos and Micks barrel together, mick ducking under the curtain to pull in behind parko and parkos look back...good stuff.
Who is the solid fella? He got some goodies and kinda looks like Wade Carmichael, the big man snap was sick!
'Twas the Avoca Jesus.
Aussie power-house right there.

Loved that. Black Angels too. Parko and Mick looking so smooth. The fella at 0:35 made a really nice drop and did well to tuck in under the lip.
My favourite moment was Parko’s supercharged ejection from the sand monster at 1.44. He had to jump the lip there, he only just made it. And there was nowhere else to go. And the way he surfed that wave was classic, the trademark laid back fade in the midst of hell.
OMA delivered the goods to QLD/Nth coast but we saw very little of the cyclone swell here apart from one epic day which was delivered when a contest was being run(QS 1000)@ the only location which was any good! The locals were threatened with a $500. fine if they entered the water @ their local!!! Some courtesy by the organisers towards the locals( ie one bank for the freesurfers) should have been afforded to the locals who have endured 2 mnths of slop before this long awaited swell event! Bring on the nxt cyclonic swell ASAP without the circus arriving in a town that really doesn't give a #*^! about a contest. I wonder what the reaction would've been like if this QS event had been held @ Kirra over this swell event?
Knew that move was gonna piss a lot of people off. Not many waves in town during those conditions.
what QS was that groovy?
QS 1000 Mothersomething? Won by Matt Banting footage was on Prime news Monday night edition.
oh yeah, that one.
One of the highlights was watching a jet ski operator floating around out the back and then being winched to safety by the rescue helicopter. Too lazy to paddle and too lazy to swim.
