Watch: Cloudbreak's biggest day ever?
During the recent Cloudbreak XXXL swell, Tim Bonython was filming far down the line when Ramon Navarro whipped in up at the ledge. The distance between them meant that Tim only caught the very end of Ramon's ride, the wave which has come to define the swell. But that's fine 'cos much more went down that day and it's good to spread the limelight around a little.
This clip by Tim shows a couple of rides that have so far been overlooked. Kai Lenny's deft edgework to stay tight is one, as is Evan Valiere's failed drop (check where he takes off in relation to the pack), plus the wave that closes this clip, G'Mac's backdoor to body bounce.

Gmac so close.....but soooo far away........great clip.
Normally hate slo mo...but this ones worth watching on Utube at 1/4 speed just to see what these Legends were dealing with..wind and chop on the face.
without doubt my fav XL wave to watch
Filth !
Well Stu, not sure where you got that info re Ramon's wave. I got the whole thing.
But in summary, it was a very special day as we had the better boat sitting right in the front stalls with Scott Winer i.e. the Tavarua boat, we were the first boat out there & almost most the last to leave. Our next ASMF is looking pretty good with the biggest waves ridden ever at Nazare, epic Peahi & Mavericks. Some of the best WA'S RIGHT ever,
Shipsterns and now historic CLOUDBREAK.
I'll updating the tour on my instagram @ Tim_Bonython & Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/timbonython.swellchasers
You did? And you didn't send it to us?!
This movie better be good, Bonython!
All of those waves are incredible. Tow ins were great but to paddle into some of those waves is mind boggling .
FERK!!!!! is all i can say
Tim and Stu collaboration great hype clip lads
Amazing surfing. Awesome clip. If I'm being fussy tho I'd prefer it without the overlaid hoots n carry on which may or may or not even relate to that particular ride
the soundtrack is horrible
a common complaint/feedback for a Bonython flick ;)
It sounds like the same music that they have for tense moments on Masterchef. Some dark dubstep would have been nicer.
Cringe worthy and dated music choice. Maybe Seppos love it? Dear Tim, GIVE US A RAW CUT!! No slow-mo, no embarrassing soundtrack, just raw ocean and cheers from the channel.
Mental waves nonetheless...
Bloody hell! Are they for real? That's just friggen creepy, it's not even pleasant to watch. Goes to show that there really are folks in this world who just do not experience fear.
Well its been flat here for days, but that got the adrenaline up. I can;t imagine the racket in the channel - I'm screaming in the home office on my Pat Malone....I'm buggered if I can get my head around how they handle the thrashings. I'd need a SCUBA tank.
So good to see the full version of guys paddling through to take off, gives a better perspective. As outlined above, maybe some of these guys filming would do a video release of real time and a separate release of the "artistic slo mo" for those that like it. I prefer the real time version myself. Great footage, only wish I was there to witness it.
