Watch: The machines are coming
Just over two years ago Kelly Slater stole Adriano De Souza's thunder when he released footage of his wave pool the day after ADS was crowned world champ. Nice touch, that one. Gracious. Two days ago, an American company tried the same trick on Kelly.
While Old Baldy was anointing himself at the Lemoore Fountain of Fortune, American Wave Machines released footage of their new wave pool. Of indeterminate height, it was undoubtedly perfect. Slightly on the almond side if we must get particular.
And just like Slater's highly produced edits that he dripfed to the 'net, this is also a polished affair. Take a look for yourself:
Like the Webber theory, and the early iterations of KSWC, the AWM wave is a surge of swells, however it appears they've been able to harness each one creating a quick succssion of waves.
Click the 'right' arrow for an elevated view of the same the waves.
The first licensee of American Wave Machines tech is BSR Cable Park in Waco, Texas. A little over 300kms from the Gulf Coast. BSR Cable Park is opening this northern summer and selling wavepool passes for $60/hour, $80/four hours, or $100/day, which is some wacky mathematics.
And here's BSR Ambassador's JOB and Cheyne Magnusson surfing the wave, or as it is, waves, 'cos there appears a few variations on the form: barrels, wedges, ramps etc.

J.O.B. going to be first to ride a Wave there ?
Curb your style.
6-8 ft will be the game changer I feel ; }
Having a look on their site. It says that the standard size pool could hold up too 50 people at one time. That sounds pretty fucked. I wonder what the etiquette would be. If that is the standard size pool in the above video... fuck that.
I’m in Dallas all the time for work, I’ll give it a test run and an honest appraisal. Got to say I’m a little disappointed with the size, it’s not the 6-7 feet they are claiming, with some pretty serious crouching going on there. I’m sure it’s fun to ride though...
yea my days of crouching are long gone, looks more like a munted deadlift these days with a big groan to boot.
Looks very nice.
Where & When will Webber Wave Pool come????????????????
Kellys is still better, but this looks pretty good still.
Agree the real game changer will be a overhead size wave.
Best thing about this one is the sbility to vary the wave style snd add a little bit more unpredictability to the mix. As a bodyboarder, the wedges and ramps look pretty fun. Kellys wave is longer and more “perfect” looking, but its just the exact same thing over and over.
A slight change of the bottom contour and an appropriately placed refraction wall and you'd have a wedge.
That technology already exists for Olympic white-water kayaking events, so could be transplanted here.
Apparently they changed the bottom contour of the KSWP for this event - away from the 30 second barrel to distinct sections to promote airs, carves and barrels.
Check out the Instagram photos for bare bones.
Abutting the wall centrally, the Slab features 2 dozen Air Chambers facing upward.
Each a unique shape similar to a Giant Wave Harmonica.
Waves are seemingly piped forward by up draft rather than rear thrust.
Perhaps lending to Pipeline name.
Old School... Shut down town to move a mountain of water the length of the pool.
Now flick on Wave spa with harmonic jets...(Novel approach is a massive wake-up call)
Possibly reform designer sections extending to WSL/Olympic kayak style course.
Looks fun!
be pretty weird getting tubed and staring at a big hunk of grey concrete. Still, I'd be pretty happy having a go at it and going to bed that night dreaming of spinning tubes and grey walls
Glue up a couple of acre-sized sheets of high-reflect plastic mirror on the walls ...... or something.
Ah, caught you. As usual as an oldy, you have no concept of the future. There is reasons why your far out ideas will not work.
This is the closest I will get to you.
I hope you have placed a bet that I will the Carver comp.
These wave pools are just primitive tech. Why bother? A VR headset, a wobble board and some nine eyed footage and you don't even have to get wet to get barrelled.
noshow... reminder of our rainy day paddle pop stick gutter racers. (Crash helmets in OZ?)
peterb ... I thought murals also... but I think the jets up-well central wall to shape waves.
Fading down the line could carry some designs.(Water park is still under construction)
blindboy... might wanna crack open a shaken can of coke to get that feeling.
Is it just me or does this pool look like it surfs more like a real wave than Kellys?
KSWC seems to have a wakey sorta feel and look to it.
This one looks like a beachy.
The Machines!
This is an recyclimbing accept. We put all our refuse that bloody Chinese wont accept. Ok, I am talking about rubbish, I am Bundifyed.
