Watch: Go Mad
31 years after mixing the original brew, Ross Clarke-Jones returns to share the Mad Wax formula with a new generation of surfers: Leo, Caroline, and Kanoa.
Going by the comments on YouTube, the references in Go Mad may be lost on the intended generation:
TP: Well this was a fun wake n bake....what did I just watch! haha
Matt: Please fire your interns...
Johan Junior: go home redbull, you're caffeinated !
Assante Luca: This is wtf
Nick: I will never pay more then $1 for wax
Andy Martyn: Ross Clarke Jones needs his own t.v show, c*nts hilarious!
For those who don't know what the hell is going on, here's the original Mad Wax from 1987.

Mad Wax was probably the first surf movie I watched as a grommet - saw plenty others in the years before, but I didn't really start surfing until about '87 so this came about at a time when I was in full grommet-froth mode.
Watching it now, it's amazing how all of the scenes spring back to life from my memory. Even Ross' comical narrative still stands the test of time I reckon.
Though.. it's amazing to see the kinds of waves that made the grade back then. Some sections are fantastic (i.e. Summercloud) but that first scene with RCJ, Tom, Kong and Bryce in small beachies - which I reckon Ross told me was filmed at Long Reef - wouldn't even last on the filmer's SD card these days.
Classic movie. Good to hear a bit of Gangajang too...
if memory serves me correctly, the '80s marked the move from coconut-scented wax to bubble-gum scented wax.
That was a sad day
cool song
Brings back memories, Mad Wax was the video you would chuck on as a grommet when your sister or girlfriend was around and you wanted to watch a surf vid but didn't want them whinging after 5 minutes.
It had a story so you could kind of get away with it and the sound track of Gangajang although classic was pretty friendly, opposed to say the late 80's Indie soundtracks on Billabong, Rusty, Ripcurl (all of which i loved)
Well that was until Kelly slater in Black & White came out, then the chicks were always happy to watch that too.
chook has it sussed!
E/Coast Winter cakes 1976-Honey/1978-Coconut-Butter/1980-Strawberry/1982-Bubblegum
E/C Summer: 1970's Servo Wavecraft Wax (Blueblock) + 1978-SURVIVAL (kangaroo) cake
HONEY SURFWAX was a Nth/NSW hippy underground fav'(Excellent)
Coconut Butter cake was whiter & so soft & yummy a perfect winter brew.
Skegz fought over it as it was so soft it vanished in your hands.(Hide it on a cold day)
All downhill from there.
75c "Wavecraft"Block's blue slithers were picked outta the grass by groms each summer.
Best cheapest longest lasting light summer block. (Palm Beach 19th Ave servo stocked it)
Survival cakes were a more pushy grubby affair. Reuse over/Pile it up mountains high!
Thanx for the Surf Flick...
Only in the '80's /Surf Wax classic displayed in Antique store window display for $1.50 ?
Had a big cry when kind storekeeper traded it freely for a window clean. Pure Disney magic!
#2 best grom-froth-inducing surf flick of all time, only pipped at the post by Kongs Island and the magic cream puff tree......
Still can't believe those radio reports with Mark Warren telling everyone to head down to Aussie Pipe for the arvo.
didn't realise RCJ ripped in the small stuff. very nice
