+1 for sealions. Have had to tell the kids not to try and pat them at the beach before.
And: 3:52 sped up sheep flock drone footage: there's a whole youtube channel genre right in that shot.

We have trained the sea lions to chase tourists out of the water. Plan seems to be working fine. That surf is as good as it gets in NZ.

Love the intro. Unreal production too, but a shame about the waves.
That seal scene is hilarious!

For some reason the Sea Lions are particularly aggressive at that spot, although I've never known anybody to actually get bitten, but they can cause you quite a bit of grief. I've had a couple of them harass me for over an hour, bumping into me, popping up right next to me and barking. The best thing to do is to paddle over to one of your mates and hope they hassle them for a while! I've had the full chase up the beach thing happen as well. In think they weigh half a tonne so you don't really want to argue with them.
Beats me why anyone would go there in the middle of winter though. The place is cold enough even in summer!

Getting chased out by a sea lion is the least of your sea life worries in that neck of the woods

Those yellow eyed penguins are lethal
Cop one of their beaks in the wrong place and it's serious.
Never mind jumbo surprise or KZ7 as the old locals down that way used to call it, didn't seem to care too much for munching surfers, just scaring the Shit out of them.

Yeah man, gotta watch those yellow eyes. Over forty surfers were killed by them last year. KZ7 on the other hand has mellowed in his old age. He regularly pops up near the St. Clair pool asking for a head scratch from the kids down there.

Great production. Sums up a trip in South N.Z.
The island is epic...beautiful scenery, good vibes, waves year round. .. extreme weather below lat 40... wind & water like ice...take a friend, thermos & maps.
