fuk what a rush that would be.
huge waves, no doubt.
But electro music and jump cut editing, fucking horrific.
As far as performance progression in huge surf......maybe the last wave? the guy was able to turn up into the top third of the wave.....?
Anyone else see any sign of progression?
Electro beats? Now that's progress!
Especially considering the last 99 Nazare vids used stirring string orchestra guff for ye olde worlde feelz, and they never missed an opportunity to frame the medieval sandstone fort in every shot.
Least the music is the right century.
c'mon FR ya showing your age , love the music , editing pretty good , the progression is that more and more guys are making the waves with speed , if you go back a couple of years , white water was running them down , now they seem a lot more comfortable.
Will be interesting to see the waves of RCJ as he can actually turn at high speed , I think you also have to say the consequences of getting caught inside at Nazare are a lot more than Jaws!
I count 12 waves ridden with 5 of them being run down by the whitewater.
Maybe I'm missing something.
Is it more dangerous? I wouldn't know and never will. Sion Milosky drowned at Mavericks with skis on hand, as did Mark Foo and many others came within a whisker of drowning.
Donnie Solomon drowned at Waimea Bay as have others, Pipeline has claimed multiple lives.
Todd Chesser drowned at Outside Alligators.
You would have to think that is purely because of the dedication of skis to water safety at Jaws that has prevented deaths there.
Not trying to belittle Nazare but there are other big wave spots that seem at least as if not far more deadly.
before it was more , hardly anyone could outrun the white water......they are at least in the game now!
Yeah a lot of people drowned in big waves , so you would say that inflatable vests have added a whole new dimension to the sport. You pull the cord , and it's like getting an elevator to the surface. Makes me wonder if Andrew pulled the cord too early , and floated up and out with the lip , as he was inside the tube when he dove off...maybe just aqua planed over?
Everybody I have spoken to, who has surfed both, rate the shore break at Nazare as the heaviest thing on earth !!
Fuck it's conflicting to sit behind a screen after surfing 2' Granites and diss these guys, but...
It strikes me they're there to win the XXL Biggest wave and that's just about the sum of it. I can't remember who it was at the WSL event last year that said it was just horrible (Mitchell?). It's compulsive viewing but always leads me to ponder comparisons that just aren't there. There seems little room for progression, wave size aside, and I agree the jump/cut edit was annoying (along with Doctor Who effects) but I'll give 'em the techno.
yeah I agree that some of the guys there are out to win $'s and their moment of fame and glory , but there are also those adrenalin junkies that just like the idea of cheating death.
I have spoken to a lot of big wave chargers that will not go back to Nazare as the risk out weighs the reward.
Wow, just wow. On what basis do you, sitting there at your computer, think that some of these guys are in it for the money/fame? because you have spoken to a lot of big wave chargers? Oh yeh, righteo. If you have ever been to Nazare on a big day and seen the cliffs, the inside, the rocks, you would rethink your statement. The way you look to put these guys down is so lame.
Billyw , is that a double wow ?
I am not putting these guys down , just pointing out that there are different motivations for the Big wave community , and I have seen first hand that some big wave chargers would not do it if there weren't cameras , and $'s to make off big wave awards.
So don't diss them then. Read up on the place, go there, talk to people, they are not surfing to win an award and the lack of respect for your fellow surfers from your keyboard is not cool
why drink the kool aid now? why fixate on progression?
I just want to know how they get the stains out of their wetsuits
if you compare the highlights clip of the recent jaws event and these highlights, it doesn't actually really compare does it?
like to see the RCJ footage
If you have ever seen Nazare in real life you would never make such a dumb
statement freeride76 the place is insanely heavy.
No one said it wasn’t heavy. It just looks like a shit wave.
Some more drone footage on Surfline
Goofyfoot no one said it looks like a shit wave. Its not indo perfection no doubt
but you take each big wave break as a challenge and this one would be last on my
bucket list. Its evil and give it time it will kill.
Shit yeah it looks super evil! And I’m with you on the last on my list of places to surf. Fuck that...
Personally though evo I see it as a lot of risk for not much reward. Unlike jaws or Puerto where a gigantic fucking monster tube is the reward.
Everyone looks at things differently though
