Ellis Ericson // Driving organs at Desert Point - video
What's the ideal soundtrack to your surfing life? What, speaking hypothetically, is the instrument you hear when driving into a hefty section at speed?
An SG/Marshall combo turned up to 11?
Earnest acoustic strumming?
150 BPM EDM?
Or maybe just the fresh air of silence?
Howsabout some rockin' organs, like those propelling Ellis Ericson's session here at Desert Point?
The clip is taken from James Kinnaird's 'Shapes Ian', one of the short films in 'No Static in the Stars'. Next week Ellis is heading out on tour with his band Wash, plus Andrew Kidman, plus a selection of films from 'No Static in the Stars'.
The tour dates are:
Wednesday August 30th, Bondi Bowls, Bondi
Thursday August 31st, Heritage Hotel, Bulli
Friday September 1st, Manly Boatshed, Manly
Saturday September 2nd, Avalon Bowls, Avalon
Tickets $20 on the door and all show starts at 7pm.
Comments
Special mention to those outside hand drags from Ellis.
Good shit.
Hand work and organ.......gotta love an organ solo, at least five times a week, good for the prostate they say.
I'll probably get flamed for this but am I the only one who thinks that board looks like its performing like a dog out there for the first half of that vid?
I was thinking the same thing.
Agreed, hand drag and all
The boards really fast and hes slowing it down mostly.
It's not made for turns , but rather good in long tubes ?
Looked really stiff.
Ellis seems to be making all the waves . Ive never seen Ellis ride a conventional board , so this is typical of an experimental shaper/surfer .
Its possibly an edge , single fin, twinny ,vintage or some type of odd craft.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained !
Can't say I saw much wrong with it either; board looked fucken fast and he was toying with speed adjustment - doing a good job it too with those hand drags.
You wanna talk about questionable equipment: he was out the local this morning riding a surf mat.
It's not an easy place to get a wave at the best of times and he was having little joy.
