Kepa Acero reflects on his spine-breaking wipeout at Mundaka - video
Two days into 2017, Basque surfer Kepa Acero hit his head hard against the bottom at Mundaka. The impact broke his neck and if not for the actions of fast thinking friends the result could've been worse.
In the intervening five months Acero - who's one of the surf world's great explorers - has had time to reflect on his injury, his place in the world, and also his beloved Mundaka. "It is there I've had some of the best moments of my life," says Acero. "And I want nothing more to return to Mundaka."
Some of those 'best moments' are recalled through period footage of Acero sweeping through impeccable Mundaka, and it's easy to see why he'd want to return to the very place that hurt him.

Yes, can attest to that. Beautiful place, Basque region. Lucky he will have some great memories of some fun train rides.

Aaahhh...that made my Friday morning!!
Having just come in yesterday from a session at smoking Bells where I had one wave where I just stood tall and threw my hands in the air with pure speed and stoke - seeing him doing that at Mundaka just sent shivers down my spine....we're all connected through that same rush....I loved it!
