Who can explain the vagaries of fame? During his ascent, Connor O'Leary has had the backing of Quiksilver, he's collected firsts in comps ranging from a QS 10,000 to the first ever surf comp in South Korea, while in 2015 he missed the CT by one place, yet we barely heard his name being mentioned. The obscurity continued this year; despite topping the QS only 3% of punters chose him in their Fantasy Surfer team for Snapper.

The results show O'Leary made the quarters at Snapper, beaten by eventual winner Owen Wright, and he's backed it up with two Round 3 finishes to be sitting in 13th place.
