Who won the P'Pass contest?
As y'all know Swellnet and World Surfaris recently ran a contest, first prize a fully inclusive trip for two to Pohnpei Surf Club. The entries have been checked off, confirmed, and the winner finally contacted.
So without any further ado it's time to announce said winner...
...come on down Annina Helenelund of Bondi Beach.
Annina is a past resident of Finland who now calls Australia home. She first began surfing seven years ago urged on by her friend Annika. For the last five years she's "surfed consistently and passionately".
Photos of Annina surfing show a nimble natural footer zipping about on her log. If I harbored any thoughts about equipment compatability they were quickly erased. "The last time I was in G'Land I rode a shortboard," said Annina. "That's when I started getting into shorter boards."
Since then Annina's been dabbling in shorter boards. Still, her favourite stick is an 8'0" though she's got a 6'8" singley for special days. She's also heading back to G'Land this year, may even slip a longer board into her quiver this time. Clearly an advocate of the 'Ride 'em all' philosophy.
And her wingwoman? The prize after all was a trip for two.
"I'm going to take Annika," said Annina. "She's my friend that got me into surfing all those years ago."
Way to repay the debt.
For those who entered the contest and are wondering how close they got. The question was “How many kilometres is Air Niugini's new flight route from Port Moresby to Pohnpei?" That flight includes a stopover in Chuuk, and Annina's winning answer was 2,646 kilometres. A slew of people came within ten kms, a bunch within five kms, and one entrant even came within 600 metres of Annina's winning answer.
Special thanks to World Surfaris and Pohnpei Surf Club, and also to everyone who entered. Stay tuned for more competitions on Swellnet.
Comments
lucky girl - nice one Annina!
Congrats!
Hope it's 8-10 so she can bust out the 6'8".
Photos and a little review please Annina.
PS Blowin, there there mate, you'll be alright. I don't think any of us saw it coming.
Who woulda thunk it? A Scandinavian from Bondi. Manly maybe, but Bondi?!
At least she wears a legrope ;-)
Such a cool prize, hope it's a great trip Annina!
Ripper Prize !!! She must be stoked
When I talked to Air Niugini they said the new Wednesday flights were direct ..
Anyway, was a fun one to try and work out :)
Yep, I got the direct flight info with a bit of online detective work. The Chuuk stop has been a thing for a while now.

Yeah , I thought only Saturdays had the stop over at Chuuk.
I allowed for wind shear off the trans arctic vortex too.
Fucking vortex.
Hope she has the hell trip .....and I mean that in the nicest way possible.
Maybe.
Chucks, missed by a mile. Great to see. Go girl.
I was certain I had it. Maybe she should take me just so I can reconfirm it.
Yours sincerely,
Sore loser.
Well done I hope you really Enjoy it , looks like the perfect trip. Love to know how the answer was calculated. I guess putting the actual flight path and plane number into the flight radar tracker was not the way to do it. Was close but I really was hopeful I had the right answer. Great comp and hope you have more in the future. Cheers
Congrats
Note to self - Don't rush calculations when free surf trip up for grabs...
The outer reef surrounding Chuuk deserves investigating..very interesting on G-Earth.
move on Udo, move on. nothing to see there
U pass perhaps?
fkn plenty of potenial from the sky there.
Big Congratulations to the winner however I claim a complete foul red card to Swellnet. The question was “How many kilometres is Air Niugini's new flight route from Port Moresby to Pohnpei?" They also have a direct flight that does not go via Chuuk. My answer might be incorrect and that's fine but Swellnet you have not been clear in your question and that is great cause for concern especially concerning Australian lottery laws.
So in fact there are two CORRECT answers, one via Chuuk to Pohnpei and one direct to Pohnpei. Whether Air Niugini introduced the direct flight after the contest started is irrelevant, the direct flight was introduced before the closing date and question was not specific.
the question asked the distance of the new flight route. so unless they both started on the same day, i'd say just get the fuck over it you lost
I lost no problem however my comments still stand, I'm sure Matthew could give us some legal advise
I'll give ya some legal advice: Stop being a sook n move on.
Swellnet are GIVING something cool away...not just this surf-trip, but daily surf reports and forecasts. And your response to this generosity is to reference lottery legislation and request a legal opinion??
Sorry mate but at risk of overstating it, your ungrateful nit-picking regulation-deferring response neatly represents one of the things I hate most about this country and, sadly, where we're headed.
You are entitled to your opinion the same as I am entitled to mine because opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. Regarding seeking legal advise, you must have missed my attempt of a sarcastic pun, Matthew just got sent down for 8.
Noted.
Interestingly enough about 8-9 years ago I fair dinkum met a gal who was not, in fact, born with a chocolate starfish. It's a super-rare condition apparently such that the tv show RPA wanted to devote an episode to the proposed surgery to rectumfy the problem (boom boom) but she declined their offer as its a tad personal and she preferred not broadcast her condition to the world. Fair enough really.
Anyway, suffice is to say she ruined that once popular saying for me forever.
If you want a pun, slug, I'll see yours and raise you. I Finnished way out of contention on 2186 kms (tho I know that's correct), but do you hear me calling out for Swellnet to (pohn) pei me what's rightfully mine?
Well done. At least she'll have a chance to do a top turn there, as opposed to the straight handers in sunny Bongdie (apologies to Lash Clone).
I remember nearly welling my pants with laughter reading Lash Clone.
When he would pull lint from his belly button at the job interview in an attempt to evade work and continue on the dole ....hilarious .
And culturally accurate amongst my local heroes of the day.
Did these Girls have Fun.....any feedback from them ?
