Men’s and Women’s titles defended at Sailor Jerry Surftag
North Narrabeen Boardriders have successfully defended their Sailor Jerry Surftag Title smashing their opponents by twenty-four points in the four team final at South Curl Curl Beach. The North Narrabeen team of Nathan Webster, Cooper Chapman, Jordy Lawler, Kai Warner and Christo Hall scored 108.2 with Avoca finishing second on 83.67 ahead of North Avalon – 75.50 and Bondi 73.30.
Jordy Lawler and Cooper Chapman were North Narrabeen’s best with Lawler posting 27.37 and Chapman 27.10 in the 60 minute final. On top of the highest score in the final Lawler also took out the Sailor Jerry Powerwave Award with an 8.80, Chapman also won an individual award receiving the Rhondda Harrison Surfer of the Event averaging 24.12 in all three rounds he surfed in.

“Was epic to get the team spirit and come together with some of the old and new guys in the team,” said Chapman. “Super happy to win the best surfer award as I’ve been watching this event for years and now it’s cool to know I got top honors as well as contributing to the team.”
Lawler’s average was second best on day with 23.65, “Stoked to come away with the win at the Sailor Jerry Surftag, we take these events very seriously and we only come to win so it was a good day for us,” said Lawler. “I managed to get a few good ones in the final which was a relief cause you never know what might happen but with half of North Narrabeen watching us it lit a fire in our eyes to do our best.”
Avoca, North Avalon and Bondi had posted big scores in the Semi and Quarter Finals but couldn’t match the explosive surfing and experience that North Narrabeen delivered in the final.
Bondi’s Chris Friend was a standout posting 23.07 in the final, “The draw for the Sailor Jerry Surftag was absolutely stacked so we knew we had to be posting big numbers to keep our final chances alive in the earlier rounds,” said Friend. “We focused on trying to give myself, Perth Standlick and Clancy Dawson enough time to drop some bigger scores on the Powerwaves so we were stoked that our strategy paid off.”
In the Women’s Division D’BAH Boardriders finished on top winning back-to-back Sailor Jerry Surftag Titles. The D’BAH team of Brodie Doyle, Amiya Doyle, Grace Styman-Lane, Audrey Styman-Lane and Jade Wheatley posted 85.33, defeating North Narrabeen – 71.37, North Shelly - 63.47 and Queenscliff 40.20.
