Unlike past years, the CT surfers didn't get much downtime while in Portugal this year. There was only three days between the Quik Pro France and the Rip Curl Pro in Portugal, and the comp started running from early in the waiting period, all of which meant the pros had to hang close to their Peniche base.

Meanwhile, a couple of hundred kays down the coast, Coxos was doing it's thing throughout October. Here's the best of the month featuring Tiago Pires, Miguel Fortes, and Gony Zubizarreta.

Have the comp there Zenagain?? Did you notice that at first light there was no-one out? Let's try and keep a few good locations out of the spotlight.

True, a couple of mates surfed it thirty odd years ago, said it's an amazing wave. Hardly a secret spot though Whitey, probably one of the better known waves in Europe.

Awesome Evosurfer. And having the ability to do that is why a pro contest should never be held there.

Put your best headphones on, crank up the volume and press play, awesome.

Couple of hundred kms? Much less. It's only about 80 kms from Peniche to Coxos.

Some time in the 80's the locals started a campaign to prevent any comps ever being held at Coxos and they've managed to stay strong til nowadays. Plus holding a big crowd international comp here would be a logistical nightmare.

Sorry daboots I disagree its a natural amphitheatre I truely cant see it as a logistical
problem at all (parking may be an issue) but dearly hope wsl never do a comp there. In realality they should move it to Nazare beach it makes supertubos look like kiddies corner. A frame spitting super pits. If I can surf it pros would just explode out there and the politicians just loves surfing and all it brings. Peniche is awful, smelly and ordinary. Nasare has natural charm with history and a really cool place to chillout in.

It is a beautiful natural amphitheater but a precarious one... would be a very tricky and incredible dangerous to fit the thousands of people that a WCT comp attracts in Portugal. But yes totally agree that they should never even try to run anything there. It would completely spoil the place.
As for Nazare, also agree that it would be great if it was a "backup" spot for the Peniche comp, after all it's only 45 minutes away. They ran the Capitulo Perfeito barrel comp after the Peniche event with portuguese surfers and a couple of internationals. Maybe they were "testing the waters" for a future WCT event there...
