Abject flatness - gallery
A quick look around the grounds on the East Coast today reveals abject flatness (albeit Gallows at Coffs). It's now been a few days of minimal to tiny surf as the southern states continue to get battered by front after front.
The pattern should break from tomorrow as the fronts start pushing into the Tasman Sea generating pulses of southerly groundswell, but until then we're stuck admiring the crystal clear clean waters on our East Coast surfcam network.

Wow, that's cool.
Like a 30 second east coast spot check.
Only thing missing is stopping off for a sausage roll and an ice-coffee (and maybe a vanilla slice).
Short flat spells are brilliant, you get to swim around and explore all those secret little nooks and crannies, take the kids snorkelling, take some great photos etc etc.
All of the above. That's pretty awesome :)
Get it all out of your system now Huey.
Although I'm not opposed to a flat day every now and again myself either.
Be interesting to map against the current chlorophyll charts....looks like a fair degree of upwelling/cool eddys off the EAC north of Coffs judging by the water clarity.
Here ya go Steve, looks more concentrated up your way though.
Forget global warming, global flatness is the real concern!
Swell drought will end Friday
The day I have my ear drilled again and will be out of the water for a few weeks
There's one more surfcam to add to the list above.. we put in a Coolum cam yesterday (Sunshine Coast, for those that aren't familiar with the area).
Still abjectly flat there too right now.
Every day is filled with Ab Flatness when you're Gary G
Ah gees, I dunno about these extra cams. I know we're not talking secret spots but the outer bays at coolum aren't exactly on the map of the Brisso masses.
And Ben when you're posting web-cam screen shots, nice lines at Moffs etc. I know you're building a business and it's good business to highlight the service Swellnet offers, but drawing attention to things, reminding people who wouldn't otherwise think to get out there....makes me uncomfortable. Kind of like when the lennox drone vid was taken down (after the CASA complaint). Of course everyone knows lennox is there, but remind the unthinking masses about it and it will have an effect on crowds as time goes on. This is kind of similar I think.
I don't expect a change in practice, I know you guys do think about this stuff, and I know the arguments that these things are known and you guys aren't adding any pressure to already known places, but it must have an affect on crowds on some level. And of course we'll never know, but it does bite a little bit.
Gary G....love your work, keep it up!
Don't worry saltman, I can't see Friday producing much. Not anything worth noting till mid-late next week.
As for me, 2 and half weeks of being smashed by flu and whooping cough (yep?) plus near enough to no swell for the same period will see me very underdone for a trip to Bali on 14th Oct. Will conk out about half way out on the first paddle out.
But at least there will be swell.
Bacon, good week to pack the gun and camp out on the Sunny Coast?
Reminds me of the beachbreaks of Perth in summer.
