Raw footage from a windy, though clean Honolua Bay swell a few days ago. Featuring regular surfers, it's a great perspective of one of Hawaii's funnest waves.
Lucky enough to have surfed it very similar to this. An awesome wave that gets a little bit crowded but rightly so it's of high quality!

Super fun looking bowl sections. I hate the selfie Sticks and go pros some blokes are holding. Looks a bit knobbish

Absolutely!
Also the footage is pretty much always lame. in fact, I'd go as far to say Go Pro's in the surf are a novelty which should have worn off by now.

Yes! Completely agree. Same as those ones crew have hanging out of their mouths. Looks like a dog holding a stick.

I thought that was McBain from Batman on the first wave !

Was going to say, imagine riding that wave without a GoPro in your mouth or on a stick. Crazy thought, huh!

Very polite crowd

One of the top 3 waves I'd love to surf if crowds weren't an issue.

"very polite crowd" .. haha , yeah ,, there's a few big fellas out there I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of.

One of my favourite waves (not that I've ever surfed it), beautiful to look at.
One of my favourite sections in Barbarian Days too.

Agree that on Barbarian Days

Completely with you on both counts Zen. Hard to imagine a more fun wave, and Finnegans accounts are gripping reading, especially in big swell tripping off his dial.
Been there once, beautiful spot, enjoyed some gorgeous snorkelling in absolutely flat conditions.

I agree about holding those selfie sticks while surfing, so lame.
Such an amazing wave though

Wave at 6:50!
lostdoggyThursday, 7 Jan 2021 at 9:21pm
Did well to hold on.
I preferred 5.35, tube pig, double hand drag into double pistol fire claim.
When I read that section in Barbarian Days I was imagining the waves were like this but with only two people out.

Couple of fades that would make a Gold Coaster blush....
I gotta say for such a perfect wave, IMO the style of the average joe out there isn’t what I would’ve thought when you compare to some of the premier east coast Australian points.
batfinkFriday, 8 Jan 2021 at 2:31pm
Hadn’t occurred to me Solitude, but you’re right. Any wave that good on east coast Oz would be packed with seriously good surfers.
Loved the mal guy getting smacked.

I’ve often thought the same of some of the young Oahu crew - Koa Rothman, Nate Florence, Eli Olsen. Yes they charge and are phenomenally talented surfers, but wack ‘em in head high waves and it doesn’t look pretty to my eye.

He could've made that last barrel if it weren't for the selfie attempt.
Hope it was a good shot.

The Bathymetry of this spot should be used as a template for making waves all around the world! Super fun looking wave.
saltmanSunday, 10 Jan 2021 at 8:25am
Surfed it in similar conditions one January morning in 1986
It was the most beautiful wave I had seen
And It was also the first time i saw guys intentionally drop in and fade one another
Over and over again
It was much more mellow when it wasn’t perfect and still heaps of fun

Can't believe I still haven't read that book yet after nothing but rave reviews over the years.
Gunna get it for sure now.
